OMG I forgot about this movie. I liked it, but even as a kid who didn't understand what diabetes was I still thought it was pretty stupid she wouldn't take precautions before hiking. Like why hide a medical condition that's stupid. Of course I didn't understand age of consent law either but something still seemed creepy about that older boy getting with the baby sitter.

I am a diabetic and this is unfortunately very common. I would go meet a lot of diabetics at training days we would have and as a teenager I was the only one that wasn't embarrassed about my diabetes and would tell people. Some people would literally only have their families know and had none of their friends or even teachers know.

One of the creaters from Turning Red was bullied though while growing up for having diabetes and that is why they added a background character in the move that had an insulin monitor visible. I think that is what happened atleast?
