THE DANGERS OF ABANDONED MINE EXPLORATION :
****
Abandoned mines contain dangers for which equipment and training are required. Hazards can include false floors, open shafts, low oxygen, poisonous gases, collapsing or rotten structures, explosives, flood risks, bacterial infection and of course, rock falls. NEVER enter alone, ALWAYS thoroughly research your destination, ALWAYS alert a third party to your plans and timings. STAY OUT, STAY ALIVE.
This video SHOULD NOT be considered instructional or used for navigation within this mine. Video is for historical documentation and entertainment only.

so cool to be able to read a name and date on a wall (Thomas Hutchins 1833), looked it up and saw that there was at least one guy by that name in the right time period, he was from the southwest but he could've moved oop north for work. Obviously no way to tell if it's the same bloke but it's nice to imagine.

Yes, we had another mine where we were able to find census records for the miner, who rarely lived until 80 years old.

Amazing and fascinating! I’d love to know what the old miners would have thought of people going into their mine to explore it.

Thanks. I’m Victorian times, some of the mines actually did tourist trips. They described it as very noisy.

I live in Central Pa. in the USA between the anthracite fields and Bituminous. The deep mining is still happening in the Limestone industry just minutes from me. We have underground mines literally everywhere in Pennsylvania. I have friends working down there. It's unbelievable how deep and, and how far these run. They cut trucks and equipment in half and weld them back together down there. When the mine is abandoned they turn the pumps off and let them flood with lots of stuff inside forever.

Yup, such a waste, but they don't want to spend any more than they can get away with.

Yup, and it goes on beyond that flood I imagine. Think there were plenty of shafts for the deads to go out of too :)

If the mouth of the mine was cleared would the water drain out? If so would there be any objection to doing this to avoid walking through water that is often waist high.

The entrances are often left flooded to deter the casual curious.

Personally, only loose stuff off the floor, depending on the mine, damaging the fabric of the mine would be like vandalising a museum.
