This thing wins the "on the hard" beauty contest of every boat you've reviewed. That rear overhang and full keel are just sexy as hell. She's no slouch up top either. What a work of art.

I’ve watched 4 today too! Really well done series, kind of combines “my classic boat” out of the UK with the car based “Barn Find Hunter”, two of my other favourites. The only thing I don’t get is the scoring system. All the boats have been 10 out of 10, then get bumped up to 13 or 15 out of 10? Please splain! And keep up the great work

Isn’t it a great thing that the designers met the rules but still produced these things of beauty - what a great result wether intended or not - “they are the vessels of our dreams” (borrowed quotation) And yes heeling over can be a challenge or it can just be part of sailing ... maybe a little like getting your sea legs.
@YachtHunters

sea legs take some people an hour others days but that Bristol is really terrific and there's something rewarding about the older narrower boats taking that early heel and then driving

Nice tour Cap, and a perfect example of why upkeep is more important than age when it comes to old yachts. If kept up, that solid glass hull will last virtually forever. A Bristol may not carry the marquee of Hinckley, but is every bit as nice. Price appears very fair for condition. Only real thing I would change is to swap out the cockpit propane tanks for a smaller one, and have it lashed to the aft stanchion with a smart canvass cover.

Good morning captain. I'd like to see you look at more of the systems on the boat and less of the nooks and crannies of the interior. Plumbing, engine, electrical, sails and sail controls, they all make a difference in the prices you well know.

I shall say this industry seems to ignore security aspects & watertight compartments. Living years in Nanaimo we have crime & also winter weather that can ruin a boat. If I bought a sail boat for ocean travel I would want everything enclosed

It's a real shame I'm not rich right now, because if I had the cash I would buy this boat today. (Assuming no one else has gotten it before now.) And I would sail it anywhere on the entire planet that there's sufficient water to clear its draft. Maybe singlehanded.

Is Captain Q going to do a suspender tutorial sometime? That’s some interesting sartorial stuff going on there.
@YachtHunters
@YachtHunters 3 жыл бұрын
aha glad you asked given my girth i have discovered for sometime that Braces are really necessary for sartorial comfort. But i did find that the typical meatal fittings can be deleterious to marine finishes especially varnished bulkheads so i cut them off and substituted some 3/16 nylon line and with a few random square knots created a much more suitable means of keeping my Nantucket reds up and i cannot damage one sliver of gleaming brightwork no matter what..i recommend the approach for this highly adjustable approach. side story : i had a pair of port and starboard braces tha t i wore out years ago, so i found a purveyor on line and ordered another pair ...but it turns out the pair i ordered were designed for a Canadian comedy tv show character so they came in back words . so i have had to flip them over the keen eye will spot the adjusting brasses are upside down thank you for your concern and i hope this explains

Two comments in first few minutes from a 1971 Bristol 40 owner-A boat this old with a shiny hull is most definitely spray painted and it cost big bucks. And please, never wax a boat because it will need to be painted eventually and the wax makes paint not adhere as well as it could. Save money and paint your hull yourself. You won’t be so heart sick when it gets scratched-and it will.

I checked this boat out in Portsmouth nh and that’s not original gelcoat it was white originally there is bubbles under the imron paint near the waterline where the boot stripe meets the green hull hopefully it’s just the paint not osmosis in gelcoat
@Morrisfactor
@Morrisfactor 3 жыл бұрын
These old designs with the long overhangs sail more on their sides than upright, which gets tiring on a long trips - plus the extremely short waterlines mean small interiors. (The interior of this 39 boat is about the same as a more modern 32 footer). Designs that ignore the CCA and IRA rules are much more comfortable to sail and live aboard. Compare a Westsail 39 to this boat and you'll see what I mean.

What a contrast to almost all yacht broker videos. They're silent as they go through the boat, all you can hear is them breathing, and it's really creepy! And my guess as to why they remain silent through the whole tour is...they have no idea what they're looking at. But they still get 10% of the sale. Totally pathetic. They could all learn a lesson from your videos!

@@inixio11 I rip other yacht brokers apart in the comments section. I write things like "maybe you could spend 45 minutes learning video editing, or maybe learn something about sailboats so you can say intelligent things during the walk through" etc...
