Do you ever come across abandoned boats that could be brought back to life with sweat equity and limited money? I’m a construction worker and millwright of 17 years that gets a couple months off a year. I’d love to find decent projects that I could work on and bring back to life but have no idea where to start looking. Coming from poverty myself it would be nice to bring the freedom and self reliance of sailing to people that I know that would never be able to afford it in a sellers market.

Very nice boat, and survey pending I think it's a fair price in the current market. The V-berth has one issue: As a couple, the person on the outside will have to climb over the person on the center if they have to do business at night. Beyond that, really lovely boat.

This is a lovely boat, and worth the premium over an older sistership built at the Cape Dory yard. Carl Alberg's Cape Dory designs were great. But I will stick with my 55 year old Whitby Alberg 30 which is paid for, and I can handle and maintain by myself. A decent Alberg 30 can be had for $7-8K - but you won't find one that is only 25 years old!

Hi guys, terrific episode as always and wow what a boat. Interestingly, I've seen the number 333 almost every day since 1993 when I moved from Maine to San Diego.. There it is again on your Maine license plate, incredibly with "SD" which I always interpret as yup, San Diego. Wow.
We are glad to see some sponsorship. Love the boat. Is it too big to single hand?
@YachtHunters3 жыл бұрын
thank you... no, with the proper rigging and controls leading back to the cockpit (and also an auto-pilot) you'd be able to single-hand it. also the self-tacking jib really does make single handing quite a bit easier

Ahoi Captain Q and Randy! I're really enjoyed watching this new episode and liked it as all the previous ones. Also, I do love your focus on such yachts that would match us down-to-earth-folks' taste... so to speak. As I told you once before, some while ago, I'm still not quite sure on what sort of vessel to buy. Fortunaltely I'm not in any hurry. The ideal would perhaps be a boat that can be operated single handedly, whether for sailing or being run on motor, that can fall dry, and easily can sleep up to 8... and be comfy enough for serving as a part-time liveaboard. Do I ask or expect too much? - Most recently I stumbled over Dutch Tjalks, boats with a flat bottom and swivelling side keels. Question. Do you have such or similar boats in your region, and would you love to make a tour on such a classic, provided you found one over there?
@malachy18473 жыл бұрын
Looks like it has been very well loved and cared for by the Two previous owners, as for the price it seems on the money due to the well maintained and presented aspect of same, which is there in the Clip, looks very dry and has great lines and a well thought out functional design for comfortable for blue water cruising what with a good survey one would reckon with a small shake down trip one would get a handle as to where the buyer would be , don't think it will be on the market Long, looks a great solid craft...Great Upload.. Captain Q, I enjoy your videos but I have a question, as I am new here. You hardly ever say anything negative about a boat you present. Is it because you select only boats that are in unusually excellent conditions, or because you get a commission from the broker, or what? Even a great boat always has some issue, whether they are major or minor. But those don't seem to be ever highlighted. Or, at least, very, very rarely... Thank you!
@fred68393 жыл бұрын
He gives you his opinion from a overall appearance. He does not give you the details of what's wrong from a Surveryors Inspection. He has shown boats in Good, maybe Fair Condition. Who wants to look at the unmaintained boats?
@andynorth61613 жыл бұрын
@@fred6839 Thanks Fred! Yes, I do realize this. I do understand this is not a survey. But my question relates to the 'overview' level of the presentations. Even at an 'overall appearance' level, it would be possible to highlight positive and negative aspects. Yet, it feels like an overwhelming majority of comments are on the positive side, which makes the whole overview a bit less credible, in my opinion. In my experience, virtually every single 20-to-40 year old boat has problems. In some cases they are minor, of course, if the boat was of good quality, to start, and has been well maintained. But even when they are minor, a balanced overview would 'feel' ... better? Mine is not a disparaging comment, just an honest question!
@YachtHunters3 жыл бұрын
Our opinions are strictly that opinions of how we feel about any given boat that we get on and have the opportunity to explore. Most of these we are exploring for the very first time so we’re discovering the various attributes of the boat. Of course we can find something wrong with any boat blue minutia here and there but that’s not the point of our interviews. Our main point is to educate and explain why we would like to go to see in any one of these boats And as if we have reported before we receive no compensation from the owner or broker or agent of any of these boats so we are not driven to dress them up in anyway in order to sell the boat. Our only compensation comes through advertising that KZbin place is on our channel so we truly are independent and arm’s-length in our opinions. And if you notice in our rating system I’m feeling about boats basically is that quote if it floats it gets a 10“ We just like boats and always have. There are some new boats coming out in the last 1015 years that we don’t have much use for for a number of reasons but for old-school sailing where performance and beautyCan go hand-in-hand We are happy to review the boats that we do and we do try to find a variety of boats as opposed to just doing 10 of the same model. Thank you for your note and I hope this helps you understand how we function here at Captain Q
