Really appreciate this video! The manual doesn't really explain the features in full detail! This is so helpful!

I looked at dishwashers, narrowed it down to Bosch, narrowed that down to the 500 Series or 800 Series, and decided on the 500 Series. I love it. The feature on the 500 Series that lets you automatically pop the door open after a wash to help the dishes dry really works exceedingly well. What I think is REALLY subpar with the Bosch experience is the app and getting features set up the way you want/need. At times crucial steps are left out (a wonderful video on KZbin helped with that), and over and over Bosch will tell you you can change something in the app, but not how to navigate in the app screen after screen after screen to where you need to be to do that. On many things there were a couple days of trying and trying again to get the app to do what I wanted, but I succeeded. I really don't see any advantage to buying a Bosch 800 Series when the auto door open feature on the 500 Series works so well for getting the dishes dry fast.

We have had three Bosch dishwashers over the past several decades. In July 2024, after 17 years of use, our 500 model died, and we purchased an 800. Bosch makes great machines; each one seems to have been more technologically advanced, however, each successive one has been more cheaply made, and while some people may find the "Home Connect" app appealing, I don't see the need to use any of the myriad of WIFI connections. Here’s my review of our new SHP78CM2N (800 series) dishwasher. REASONS TO PURCHASE A BOSCH 800 exceptionally quiet operation. Reliability (At least I hope this one lasts as long as our last one.) Attractive door design that is easy to clean. WASHING Meh. I have to hand-wash my steel-cut oatmeal bowls before placing them in the rack. If I don't, other bowls wind up with tiny dustings of oatmeal, and have to be hand washed anyway. This never happened with our older model. My only consolation is to think that if Bosch is a supposedly quality product, what must less expensive dishwashers be like? Also, if you, like me, do not want to add to plastic pollution and believe powdered detergent to be cheaper and just as effective, you will need to watch out that you keep it *inside* the detergent container, and not on the "runners" for the little door that slides closed, otherwise the door will eventually refuse to close. My husband had to take the thing apart to get it to work again. It appears to be designed exclusively for pods. CRYSTAL DRY: This is one of the things that attracted us to the 800; however, after several months of use, I can now attest that the Crystal Dry system doesn't do a very good job of drying. Even though I do not overload the machine, and am careful not to put anything around the crystal dry area, things on the third basket never dry, mugs and plastics on the second level come out with wet spots. It’s not worth the money, and IMO doesn’t do any better job of drying than our old 500. RACKS The 800's racks are more like drawers, so they do seem more solid than the last 500’s that we had. They are easier to move in and out. It has a third rack, which is nice; except the idea is that you should place your utensils in it individually within little plastic dividers. Who has time for that? I’m not obsessive-compulsive, so such activity doesn’t bring me joy. I do prefer the layout of the pins in the 800 to the 500. UTENSIL BASKET: I'm glad we saved the old utensil basket from our last one because the new one that came with the SHP78CM2N (800 series) is worthless. The basket is half the size and weight of our previous dishwasher. (Of course, Bosch is happy to sell you the old basket for $29.) Finally: be aware that the print and the online manual do NOT deal with two of the most fundamental questions you will have: 1) How do I know when the machine is done washing? (Answer: there will NOT be a little red light on the floor; instead, there is a white LED light inside the handle that will turn off. ) 2) Is it OK to open the door and add an item that you forgot, once the machine is washing? (Answer: apparently so.) Wouldn't you think Bosch would mention this information somewhere obvious, and not bury it in a response to an online question, or leave it to be deduced from other instructions? BOTTOM LINE: If I had to do it over, I’d save some money and get the 500.

I like the app since the dishwasher is downstairs and I'm mostly upstairs (or in the garden) and can check the timer to know when the wash will finish. Setting up the app was a ridiculously nonsensical CHORE, very illogical, crucial steps left out in Bosch's instructions, and Bosch often tells you just to change something in the app, not the screen after screen you will have to wade through to find where you need to be. It's definitely the weak part of the Bosch experience.

@@upscalebohemian5372 I can see how the app would be useful for you; but I run the dishes before bed, so I don't care when the wash finishes. I also just use the same settings all the time--"Normal," and "Crystal Dry" IMO the app is just one more thing that will eventually fail.

While Bosch still has to introduce the Power Control spray arm in Germany (it's still exclusive to Gaggenau for now), models with a 3rd small spray arm have been quietly launched at IFA a month ago.

Really? I’ll have to hunt down a photo.

I don't know if it works but I've tried to post a link as a reply.

Can you send me a picture of this 3rd small arm? Should I get the NA with the power control arm or German ? Also the bottom layout the tines are very close together I noticed.
@LorealityАй бұрын
I've posted a link here but it didn't show up. Try to google "automaticwasher Bosch ifa 2024". It's where I read about the arm and there's a picture. The wide spacing of the tines seems to be a uniquely N.A. thing - I couldn't find the US baskets anywhere else, so you might have to try the racks with your own dishes at the store. I'm happy with the cleaning on my Bosch; I don't really know if I needed another motor in the dishwasher just to turn the spray arm.

Nice review. I have a Thermador Pro that came with the house from previous owners that is about 16 years old that performs well, but has a tough time drying and I wanted a color change to match my kitchen remodel (and not have the front all scratched up). The previous owners beat the heck out of it and it still keeps going. I just pulled the trigger on a Bosch 800 SHX78CM5N vs. the SHP78CM5N shown here, on Black-Friday sale. I think the major difference is the handle design (bar) and ballbearing rack wheels (?). The 800 series are by far the most popular at the local appliance stores for the higher-end dishwashers. I'm looking forward to seeing how well the CrystalDry system works.

@@appliancesexplained I've run a couple cycles and I'm impressed with how well the washer dries (let it run overnight and leave the door closed until the next morning). I also like that you can load plastic items anywhere, even on the lower rack. Previously, I had to open the door in the morning and leave it that way for at least 4 hours to get most of the water to dry off anything plastic.

We are considering the ADA version (our opening is only 33 5/8"), but the dish area is 2" shorter. Do you think we would have issues fitting full sized plates and glasses due to the height decrease?
@appliancesexplained2 сағат бұрын
Yeah… you might have to consider getting “IKEA” sized dishes/glasses for clearance reasons. I’d recommend you consider going with a Miele full height dishwasher (if they’re available in your area). Miele’s specifications might not show this but the leveling legs on their dishwashers ship with a 1/2 inch extension. Once you unclip this 1/2 inch “shoe” from under the foot of the dishwasher’s leg , you should gain the clearance you’ll need.
Santize and crystal dry help latter work better. Auto wastes 5 gallons of water vs normals 2.5 gal with no better result. App has good usage info for you to track. We turn on sanitize and crystal dry to get rid of the oils and dirt. Heavy is overkill most of time

does it dry plastic items? I tried two kitchenaid's and it doesn't even dry the plastic utensil bins!

I just got a bosch 800 dishwasher. The lights show on top when the door is open, but don't remain on when the door closes. So I select auto and crystal dry they light up but turn off once I close the door. The ones at the end of your video looked like they stayed on. Is this a setting I can change. Also I don't have a red light or timer indicator when running. It was actually a little hard to confirm it was coming on or working for the first couple of minutes. Is there a setting for the indicator as well?
@appliancesexplained26 күн бұрын
There should be a red light on the floor while it’s running. What’s your full model number?
