I was in this cast. Not only did she have the pipes.. she acted the F out of it. Plus, she was extremely gracious and kind!!

I am rather surprised. This is really a very nuanced performance. I wonder why her Elphaba isn't more appreciated.

I think because she is an actor first. KZbin tends to value performers who are incredibly skilled vocalists who can act rather than amazing actors who can sing well. Dont get me wrong, she sounds incredible! I think that the internet tends to gravitate towards the Elphies with a more melodious pop belt.

I have seen Wicked many times. None better than Ana at the Oriental Theater in Chicago with my late wife. No one was more surprised than me at her octave range. I had only seen her on SNL as a comedienne prior. She is simply the best.

She gives the low notes as much care as the high notes which I feel a lot of others ignore. I appreciate that.

yes that’s what I love about Ana, her approach to Elphaba is very balanced in a way compared to some others

I had the pleasure of seeing this in Chicago. It was so good! I remember we gave Anna a standing ovation BEFORE she finished singing Defying Gravity, she actually waited for the clapping to die down then finished.

The level of impeccably shaped, brilliantly nuanced, oozing-with-craft performance that she gives is phenomenal. It’s absolutely riveting and a masterclass of what incredible skill and talent can do in this medium. To be able to pull it off well is challenge enough, and to make it truly entertaining is yet another level. But to do both of these things AND deliver it with such honesty is possibly some of the most beautifully moving stuff this show has ever seen. How lucky we are to have it on film!

Ana has a tremendous voice, but the thing I appreciate the most about this performance is the very emotionally connected acting. I felt this song in a different way from her than pretty much everyone else. She really has this performance and emotion coming from her gut, just letting all of her emotions out it’s so great.

We had the absolute pleasure of seeing Ana as Elphaba. What an amazing voice she has, she brought chills to my skin and tears to my eyes at the same time! She's the Elphaba you want to see!

No matter how many times I see this done, whether live (four times including Broadway) or in a recording, I cry. But her version was especially moving! She really took us there!

never knew Ana Gasteyer had those pipes on her... even better than Idina. Wow

This is the first time I'm seeing her elphaba, and my goodness am I impressed. wish i'd seen her before now! her "Its me!" resolved in a way that was not impressive in the sense of extreme vocal manuvers, but extremely impressive in the sheer mastery. I can't qutite describe why I think the way she resolved that note was so well done, but the control she had over it is what I think is the reason. Fantastic!

Ana was my Elphaba. I got to see her right when she transferred to the Gershwin when I was 15. It was amazing seeing her. 💚🖤

Her and Nicole Parker (from Mad TV) were really the "TV Personality" Elphabas, and they were both AMAZING in the role! Nicole was my personal favorite, but Ana has some MAJOR pipes also.

As much as I love Ana in this role and want to appreciate her performance I just can't get past Kate's hand movements. It ruins it all. Can she not sing without the manic hands? Brava to Ana, though. She killed it.
