Alverton, Tied Cottage, Royal Mail, Casanayor, Royal Frolic and Aldaniti - all Gold Cup and Grand National runners back in their day proving you dont need to keep fiddling with Aintree year after year to get top quality. Of course, I could name numerous others. Great upload. Thanks

Alverton and Synchronised. They were the ones came across the similar fate --- winning the Gold Cup just several weeks before tragic ending in the very subsequent Grand National.
@rohansrider7 жыл бұрын
Yes both at that damned Bechers Brook ; the grave yard of many a good horse; but Synchronised ran on lose riderless and then injured himself .
@paulallen69765 жыл бұрын
Regarding Alverton and Synchronized both linked with Jonjo O'Neill. Highly unfortunate that they were killed in their next run in the National (Synchronized broke a leg while running loose) also Dawn Run she was killed three starts after the 1986 Gold Cup, fell in the Whitbread Gold Label Cup at Liverpool, won the match at Punchestown but was killed in the French Champion Hurdle at Auteuil.

Another horse worthy to be mentioned is Aldaniti, which took third in this race. Subsequently, the story of the horse as well as the jockey took place, which is widely known by all of us.

@@moyajanko6642 You are a moron. Murder is a deliberate act - "killed" just denotes the cause of death. My uncle was killed by lightening. His friend was killed falling from a ladder. Her son was killed in an accidental car crash.

The question being would Tied Cottage have won? I would say it would have been very close. But Tied Cottage was probably a much better horse than people remember him, for he won the race easily the next year and so may have been very unlucky not to be a dual winner of the race, of whom there are have been very few.
@mervyncharter7 жыл бұрын
Tied Cottage won the Irish Grand National later that season. I think that it would have been a photo finish as Carberry had left some thing up his sleeve, and Tied Cottage was a remorseless galloper.

Can someone confirm / negate this please? I was a lad in the late 1970s, living in Cheltenham, and always fascinated by the thousands of cars, including Bentleys and Rollers passing through the council estate I lived on, heading for the races. One year, the exiting traffic jams occurred early, as racing was abandoned due to foul weather after the Gold Cup race. Flashy cars sprayed with mud, having slid out of the 'car parks' which were simply local fields. Was this meeting - 1979 - the occasion I recall? It's a long time ago, hence my doubt about the year.
