@@cmccorquodale2003thats still true but in a figurative sense. Ahsoka was literally a child soldier and has been fighting for her life for the past like 30 years. That plus the guilt of leaving Anakin to fall has rendered her a shell of herself. I think thats why her character was so dead and emotionless for the first 3.5 episodes. She was training sabine to be a soldier because shes so stuck in her past trauma and was terrified that the return of thrawn was going to bring another 20 years of war. I like that when Ashoka tries to justify holding onto her guilt and negative self image by pointing out Anakin’s atrocities, you can see it land with him in how he looks away and has to compose himself before his mentor attitude returns. It genuinely broke his heart (in his usual sink or swim mentor way) to hear right from her own mouth that the reason Ashoka is essentially choosing death rather than to live is because of what his choices did to her ability to trust in her own worth and goodness. He rallies and says “You’ve learned nothing” because this is a lesson and now he needs to teach the way they both learned with each other: hard, fast, work through your problems on the fly because danger’s headed for you. He’s not annoyed with her for bringing up his crimes. He’s deeply saddened and not letting it get in the way because Ashoka doesn’t need apologies from him, she needs her mentor to remind her what she’s made of.

“You’re more than that. Because I’m more than that.” There’s so many things being said with this one sentence by Anakin. Like most of all how Anakin as Vader for the longest time could not forgive himself. He felt like his sins were all he was. That’s a large reason why he gave up on himself by the time of the OT. His son Luke Skywalker spent the entire OT teaching/showing him what he plainly states right here. That he’s more than his sins, more than his mistakes (even if you want to see Vader as the actual embodiment of Anakin’s sins, he learned/was reminded that he’s MORE than Vader). Seeing Anakin after everything he’s been through standing there acknowledging what he learned in the OT and trying to pass it on to Ahsoka makes me feel all kinds of things in my heart man. Anakin doesn’t say that one sentence in arrogance as if to say “Oh you’re more than that because you’re my student and I’m great”. It’s a proclamation of “Ahsoka, if I can do it, if I can learn this, you can too. And you will.”

I agree - While normally I wouldn't feel warm and fuzzy over a character that literally murdered kids, I put it down to the dark side consuming you so rapidly you are no longer really yourself and so those actions are Vaders, but Vader existing is Anakin's fault. Further, when he tells Ahsoka that he's there to finish her training and she replies "It's a bit late for that," I think back to the scene in RotJ, where Luke tells Vader to let go of his hate, and he says "It's too late for me, son," while it really wasn't - and it wasn't too late for Ahsoka either. That was the lesson of the scene, albeit not just out front and straight to the face. Ashoka was tortured by the fact that she genuinely can’t know whether things would’ve been different if she stayed, and what Anakin is telling her throughout is “it doesn’t matter whether things would’ve been different in the past - you need to look to the future and not let my actions decide what your story means.” If he just flat out tells her that it wasn’t her fault, it removes the ambiguity of whether (audience knowledge aside about the movie release orders) she *could* have made a difference. Instead she has to make a very real and “human” choice to let go of the guilt and what-ifs and not obsess over not knowing. Like the rest of us.

The lesson is about legacy and destiny. Anakin Skywalker may have been Asoka’s legacy, but Asoka determines her own destiny. Look at Luke Skywalker he lost his family, had his hand cut off by a Sith Lord, learn the truth about his father, and when he was faced by the same temptation to straight down his father he refused and remained a Jedi.Anakin was teaching her to live in the present and not die in the past. This was a great lesson for all of us to learn. To not be chained by the past, but to accept it and choose your own destiny.

They actually did it perfectly. The actress, the banter, hell the choreography was excellent. I didn't have much faith in how closely they could resemble the clone wars in live action but they did it parallel. Even Hayden was and looked perfect which was a bit weird considering how they did him in the Obi Wan show. Just proves that Dave Filoni is the next best thing since George Lucas

Hayden does a phenomenal job portraying Anakin as not prequel Anakin, but Vader also. And you can see here where his temper is rising and it’s as though he realizes she won’t learn unless she faces Vader, not Anakin. So he goes into that well, but with control. Notice how as soon as he goes into Vader mode, there’s no more talking or joking or reminiscing. He becomes very brutal and disarms her easily. The only way he could get her to respond the way she needed to was for him to become Vader. I’m not a big Disney SW fan, but I have to say that this was well done. It’s my favorite portrayal of Anakin. He looks young, but he has the experiences and maturity of Vader.

Yeah the writer did a amazing job on this one, anakin behaved exactly like how he should after becoming a force ghost. And how they still kept prequal, clone wars and vader characteristics in this short clip is incredible. I hope they give us more thoughtful and time intensive writing like this. Im pretty sure if the writer get more time to respect previous work disney sw would be so much better

Hayden truly did his homework for the recent appearances in Kenobi and Ahsoka. Truly feels like an amalgamation of his character and Matt’s character from the animated series.

It's still surreal to me that despite his appearance, this isn't Clone Wars or RotS Anakin, but post-RotJ Anakin. It's so crazy for him to casually reference RotJ (I've heard that before), react to his time as Vader being mentioned, and _turn_ into Vader when needed

It's wild how skilled Ahsoka is at just 17 here. I mean, even at 16 (seasons 5-6) Ahsoka's skill level is on the lines of what you'd expect from a jedi knight. At 17, she'd beat most masters.

@@Theosake Beskar is rare, the richer you are the more you can buy or inherit. Din Djarin is only wearing a full suit of pure Beskar because the Imperial remants picked over the ruins of Mandalore and melted down the property of millions of people and paid him with it. Before that his brown painted armour was plasteel. Same for these guys, mass produced plasteel or plasteel/Beskar alloy.

I think it would’ve been cool to have maul appear here instead of anakin, not as a ghost, but a memory, and tell Ahsoka that he was right and that they could have prevented the empire if she joined him. Then they would duel and maul would push her into the smoke. We would see a red lightsaber, but instead of maul, it would be Darth Vader, who would then transform into anakin with the red lightsaber and sith eyes and press the attack.

Seeing Anakin reacting to the Siege of Mandalore is amazing, because we all know where he was during that battle: rescuing the Chancellor (and killing Count Dooku in the process), first turning into Darth Vader, murdering tons of Jedi at the temple (including the younglings), slaughtering the Separatists, and fighting Obi-Wan on Mustafar before finally fully becoming Darth Vader with the iconic suit! And Ahsoka only had that echo of Anakin with Mace Windu and Palpatine to go off of from the Force.
