If her new found position was an actual protest, she didn't need those sabers and had every reason to get rid of them. Her keeping them means her thoughts on the jedi weren't really much more than her simply being seduced by the darkside. Anakin would have actually respected her more if she wasn't just another person back sliding their convictions.. The great irony of his character is how he goes so far beyond her when he falls but he probably does see something of himself in her.

Yes they got close, bit there was this shadow of doubt which this relationship was built upon. Also in deleted scenes from ROTS Palpatine manipulated Anakin into thinking Owi-wan and Padme had a relationship, which explains “you’re with him, you brought him here to kill me” and instant transition to rage/violence when he sees Obiwan on Padme’s ship

I love how the stakes are so clear in this fight. In a normal duel to the death, Anakin would absolutely paint the walls with Barriss, but he needs her alive for her confession, hence why Barriss so often seems to have the upper hand as she's completely fighting to kill. But the moment she pushes him back enough, as well as brings things close to younglings who she could seize as a hostage, Anakin lets his Vader rage kick in and it's over in moments.

I always liked how Anakin uses physical hits as he progressively starts to turn. He kicks and punches in the middle of the fight, surely distracting and demoralizing his opponent. You see it more when he becomes Vader. He just pummels his opponent with brute force, especially with those heavy gauntlets and cybernetic hands he gets shackled in.

This arc shows that, just because a villain has a point, they are not in the right. Despite having a noble motive, Barris has clearly succumbed to the dark side. First she kills a bunch of innocent people, frames her friend, says that Ventress' red lighrsabers "suit her" and then, despite having the opportunity to flee after kicking Anakin from that height, still chooses to come down and fight him.

Sounding like a model Jedi, warping things to come up with excuses to genocide any force using group that isn't yours. Me being a wiseass aside, you're taking a few things out of context. Bariss didn't "succumb to the dark side" or else her eyes would be yellow. They're very much blue here. Bariss 's mentality isn't that of a sith, but more of an anti-jedi. Generally fluctuating anywhere from chaotic good to lawful neutral in the way she acts, since her entire goal is essentially reforming the Jedi order since the Jedi have long lost sight of what they're supposed to stand for. So for Bariss to say that the red sabers suit her is more of aking the lines of Ashoka's "I'm no Jedi" line from rebels. But Bariss knew from the start that if she didn't try to deal with Anakin, he'd come after her since guy is literally the Jedi version of Eren-fucking- Jaeger with how dogged and driven he is.

In fact that's the central lesson Star Wars teaches about the Dark Side: it is seductive, appears to be the easy path, often paved with good intentions, and only when you are knee-deep in it do you realize that you've succumbed to it without even realizing it. Dooku, the Sith Lord Darth Tyranus, is absolutely succumbed to the Dark Side with the murder of SIfo-Dyas and Yaddle. In regards, Barriss, if bombing the Jedi Temple, killing innocents, murdering her co-conspirator, and framing two individuals (one a friend, and the other Ventress) who weren't involved isn't succumbing to the Dark Side, I don't know what is. And to note, Palpatine's eyes aren't yellow when he's out and about as the Chancellor. They aren't yellow until he fries himself dueling Windu.

They simply threaten their Sovereignty, while threatening with the existence of a Droid Army The Clone Wars in some ways was a War of ideals between those who remain Loyal to the Republic and those that want to Secede and start over. Not unlike the RL Cold War ideals between Capitalism and Communism Half the time, the CIS truly did commit War Crimes. But that was under the command of the true dark leaders of the movement, with aid of Droid Armies under their control The Republic had their fair share of offenses For Barris, she witnessed Jedi who were supposed to be Guardians of peace and become super solders blindly following orders of a corrupt Senate. The worlds they “liberate” ultimately become occupied under Republic control, setting the stage of future Imperial Worlds Barris saw the truth that the Jedi were unknowing serving the Dark Side. Helping to expand the Republic borders, helping Palpatine become more powerful. Ultimately helping the Republic transform into an Empire before it became one officially Barris knew no one would listen to her through normal means. So she helped Anti-Clone Radicals bomb the Jedi Temple out of protest, to try spread her message in a dark way, that the War was wrong, and the Jedi through their apathy are responsible for it Her methods was wrong, she clearly gave into the Dark Side at that point. But she was right in her motive and point of view.

It’s insane how Vader-esque his approach here actually is. Formally addresses the issue & unhesitatingly activates his lightsaber because he’s 99% certain that Barris is guilty. Rash, but dominant. Throughout the fight, he’s trying to subdue until he gives in to his rage and uses his physicality to overpower a weaker opponent: peak Vader moment. The way he speaks & approaches the situation in this clip has HEAVY Vader vibes and you have to appreciate that as it shows you that Vader’s always been caged inside Anakin, they’re not 2 separate beings - they had always been one and the same till Anakin fully embraced his inner darkness.

Honestly, the only reason I think she lasted as long as she did against Anakin was because he needed her alive. If he'd wanted to, he could have ended her shortly after the fight began. Also, it always bugged me that Master Luminara wasn't present at all during this arc. This was her padawan after all, and the two were practically inseparable. I'd imagine Barriss turning into a terrorist would hit her pretty hard.

Tbf I don’t think Anakin would have a problem with disabling or cutting off Barris limbs. The main reason she lasted as long as she did is more due to the fact Anakin wasn’t necessarily a god level fighter at this point other than some decent attempts at fighting Dooku. If it was ROTS Anakin I don’t think she’d even land an attack but would be fighting for survival.

The entire fight is amazing, and the details are astounding. Anakin’s clear strength over her, for one. When she force pushed Anakin it was like he tripped, but with little effort Anakin trapped Bariss against a tree so strongly she couldn’t move. How the temple guards say “cease hostilities,” warning both of them to stop. Also when Anakin gets kicked down from the building, the Jedi training the younglings pulls out his lightsaber immediately, and as Bariss and Anakin fight, he remains in a defensive posture to defend the younglings if necessary. Also several of the younglings are from a story arc earlier in the show, as is the master training them. The whole fight is amazing, and is in my top three favorite fights from the show.

I honestly love the fact that even though Anakin clearly didn't trust Ventress in this arc, given how many times they had crossed sabers during the war, he also gave her the benefit of the doubt and followed up on the lead that she had provided. The way he also so subtly calls out Bariss in her quarters, not only in taking her saber moments after walking in and acting like he's just inspecting it, but even in his line of questioning. He's completely calm, makes it seem as though Barriss isn't in any trouble, just wanting to get to the bottom of everything, and even just the way he raises his eyebrow when Barriss basically matches up perfectly to what Ahsoka and Ventress had told him. I loved the way he got his read on her without giving anything away until he forced her hand.

@@DoctorWhoKage The Wookiepedia says she was born around 40 BBY(I didint knew that, shes some years older than Ahsoka, what explains why she was so wise-looking around Ahsoka), and by that, i think she was 19-20 by the time of this episode(which may be happening around the second year of the Clone Wars), and Anakin was about 20-21(He was about 1 year older than her). Considering that Anakin was 10 years old when he joined the Order, and Barriss was probably like the other normal Jedi and joined around 3-4 years old, she had more training than Anakin(What explains why she could hold on the fight against him) as a Jedi. But Anakin was the chosen one by that time.

Throughout the entire episode Anakin HATES Barris for framing Ahsoka, but throughout the entire trial rant scene, his expression changes from contempt towards her to a more concerned realisation. A realisation that Barris thought of the Jedi the exact same way Anakin has come to think of them, and at the end of the rant, he gently holds her back as if telling her that it's enough, unable to hate her anymore. Because deep down he understands her points. I feel like this and Ahsoka leaving the order for feeling betrayed by the Council, was what fully cemented his actions in Episode 3. Clone Wars was one of a kind.

Not quite. You can see at that point Anakin did stop attacking, and just watched what Barriss would do. If she came quietly the fight was over. But instead he saw her run for the window and he knew the peaceful option was off the table. The guards gave the aggressors a chance to stop the fight, but knew entering the fray themselves would escalate the situation. So they held back and waited for a chance to restrain them, while trying to surround the fight to prevent it from endangering anyone else.

For those of you wondering why Anakin wasn't granted the rank of Master by the council is quite simple. To earn that rank, you have to train your Padawan to the rank of Jedi Knight. Since Ahsoka left the order as a Padawan, Anakin didn't meet the requirements. All Younglings and Padawans called Jedi Knights and above "Masters" as they were quite literally their teachers, it was a sign of respect. Much like calling your boss or an elder "Sir" without actually having received a Knighthood.

I love the old mentor, he took a defensive stance and placed himself between the danger and his pupils and keeps there. Every word Barriss said during her confession is exactly something I've been believing after rewatching the prequels and clone wars for many times: that the Jedi Order being wiped out by the aid of the Chosen One was a drastic but necessary act. The Jedi Order, who are supposed to the biggest representive of the light side, have become so corrupted that the darkness are growing inside it. Before Barriss there're already people such as Dooku and Krell who used to be the elite members of the order, and yet even they turned against the creed they once hold as sacred words, what facilitated their turning towards the dark side was often the same reason: that the Jedi have become arrogant and blinded and nothing but instrument of the galactic politicians, turning their backs on those who actually needed help throughout the galaxy. I think that even if the Jedi had succeeded in thwarting Palpatine's plan in taking over the galaxy (and possibly kill him along the way), they are still going down a path that would eventually lead to the whole order being consumed by the dark side (IF they don't make any drastic changes to the way they operate their order). Had the Jedi not suffered the devastating blow in Revenge of the Sith, they would eventually become a new form of Sith themselves (an army of Sith who are equipped with knowledge of the light side in order to continue disguise themselves as Jedi before the public and is perfectly able to infiltrate in the Republic government and take over) which will be a million times worse than Palpatine who is only an individual Sith. Thus I always viewed Anakin's betrayal and aid to destroy the Jedi as guidance that came from the living force. The light side of the force has gone so off-rail that any attempt to course-correct is futile, and the only way towards balance is to have the Chosen One giving both sides a "hard reset". Thus, the will of the force first had Anakin turning against Jedi and wiping majority of them out along the way, and then it had Anakin turning back to the light, killing the only two Siths left (Vader and Sidious) along the way (by choosing to save Luke, he has forsaken Vader as his identity and became Anakin once again).

I always found a lot of that bullshit. In no way is becoming a genocidal, cruel fascist ever necessary. There were definitely better ways to go about reforming the jedi order. I'd also like to add that outside of them believing the sith were extinct and believing they were mostly in control of keeping peace, I don't really see the arrogance. Keep in mind that they constantly go out of their way to help and save others repeatedly and enter into a manufactured war in an attempt to help others as well as the fact that a constant lesson they seem to embody is to not look down on others no matter how weak they are. There was a lot wrong with the jedi but I dont think arrogance was one of those things really. I think it was being stuck in an unfortunate situation of wanting to be peaceful monks and also wanting to uphold principles of freedom and peace through a republic that has been undermined and corrupted (to a great extent, intentionally). The jedi either needed to separate completely or take a bigger role in cracking down on corruption in the senate. I'd also like to point out that pong krell defects because of visions he has, not because of any ideological differences; he wanted to live on the winning side. Dooku is manipulated after leaving due to ideological differences and desires to help others. And lastly, I always found anakin's "redemption" and returning to the light to be bullshit as well. What he does is save his son. Sure, it has ideological ramifications but he doesn't rectify any of his mistakes or live with his mistakes and try to make amends; he saves 1 person who he feels a deep, personal bond with. I think it would have made much more sense for him to have just been considered neutral at his time of death.

The last few seasons of the Clone Wars had some of *THE* best stories in the entire Star Wars series. Also I love how around the beginning of the fight sounds like some sort of remix to imperial march as if it is trying to sound like it, which makes sense as Anakin is using an aggressive fighting style similar to Darth Vader.

One thing I really like about this fight is how it displays all of character skill, motivation, and thoughts. Anakin completely dominates the fight-- he's pretty much never on the backfoot and spends most of it on the offensive, constantly pushing Barriss back and forcing her to lose more and more ground. He owns the tempo. Barriss, on the other hand, seems focused mostly on fleeing. She knows she can't hope to beat Anakin, so she's always trying to push back rather than engage him in close quarters. Only instance where she failed to do this was near the end after she shoved him down a couple stories, but at that point I think she was too caught up in the tempo of the fight, and she was cornered anyway, with the guards on all sides. You can also see Anakin's change in style as he grows more and more aggressive at the end, and Barriss' subsequent reaction of fear as she barely holds off each strike. It's a little dark, but it conveys the tone very well

Yeah Obi Wan uses Form 3 (Soresu) Anakin uses form 5 (Djem So). Which is a lightsaber form that focuses on raw strength and overpowering your opponent. Which funnily enough was created by Form 3 Masters during the old republic.

The only person in the Order that has proven that they have such knowledge of how to do so was actually Mace Windu. He knew how to control the dark side within himself as he fights in which Anakin did not. So I think Anakin would need the presence of two masters, one for wisdom and compassion and the other who is very skilled and can control their anger.
