A review of the 35mm Summicron ASPH shot between St Paul's Cathedral and Tower Bridge on a cloudy London Friday afternoon. I'd finished work early so it was very much a get-up-and-go attempt at a video but I think I got a few shots that demonstrate certain aspects of the lens' performance.
Hope you enjoy!
This is the 35mm 1.4 review on 35MMC I referenced: www.35mmc.com/01/04/2019/zeis...

Thank you. The video is a perfect balance to technical info and creative work using this lens. My next purchase

I've owned a trio of Summicrons (35mm/50mm/90mm), along with a M6 TTL (.72) since 2000 when I went all-in on a new system. Over the years I would guess that I've had the 35mm ASPH mounted on the camera more than 75% of the time. A few years ago I picked up a Minolta CLE and a M-Rokkor 28mm f2.8 that had been refurbished by Minolta back in the day. While the 28mm is very handy to have along at times, image quality aside, the 35mm focal length remains my go-to choice.

@@JonathanNotley I look forward to it, your videos have provided a lot of helpful info and entertainment. You're also part of the reason why I just sucked it up and got an M6 after about a year of terminal G.A.S'ing over them lol, so if my parner asks, just say they're cheap...

It is always very easy to listen to you talking, great video! One question, does the front section of your lens hood unscrew from its base(the part with the claws) ? I have the silver version, it’s super stuck…
@JonathanNotley

My hood doesn’t screw it’s held on by the two silver tabs on either side.

I agree that 35mm should be the standard lens instead of the 50. Now we just need to go back in time and get fast 35s for our film cameras

Thanks for the video. You use an argentic film, I see. I have two M6 with old 35/2, 90/2 and a 50/2 by Zeiss. I like their a lot, I just use a Fuji x100v when it rains. I use 35 as standard length. What scanner do you use, please ? Many thanks. PS the rangefinder is very fragile and the revision by an official as "Maison du Leica" in France is expensive, more than 900€ for a M6 with the 35/2.

@@JonathanNotley Thanks. I never think to use a macro lens, I have a scan Nikon 9000ED but the program isnt improved since Win 7 32 (and 64 with a little trick). Too, it takes time to put the film (135 or 120). Thx again, cordially, MB

Great video. I agree on the 28mm and glasses bit. It's so close to working that it drives me nuts. I keep coming back to 35 because it just works and I don't have to think about it!

What's the part number on that vented hood? It's not the 12585 is it? I didn't think it was compatible with the ASPH version 1.
@JonathanNotley

It's a 12504

@@sixteenbitter Actually also the 12585H is compatible, and better for avoid vignetting and flare plus you can see more through it in the viewfinder. The most efficient hood is the included one, though.

Love my 35mm cron v4!! There’s nothing in a 35mm that even comes close to the bokeh you get from it.

That's a bit apples to oranges though isn't it? Where do you put the portra? Jokes aside I've been looking at the Q series because I'm a glasses wearer and want to shoot 28mm. What's the viewfinder experience like coming from a rangefinder?
