VIEWERS ASKED ABOUT THIS DESK SO MUCH I HAD TO DO THIS!!! So the Midas desks seem to have quite a reputation. Watch and listen as I test it's summing abilities and try to summon it's ultimate destiny!

Chick from Atlanta Pro Music put me on to it when it first came out and gave me a demo while we drank beers. My favorite small console, especially when you control the routing digitally.

Hi Tobi. In the early/mid-2000s, Midas's parent company (Klark-Teknik) bought Dynacord. At this time, Klark-Teknik began to produce a set of Midas mixers called "Venice" (like yours) at the Dynacord factory in Germany, not at the Midas factory in Kidderminster, England anymore. By dec 2009 Midas and Klark-Teknik were acquired by "Music Group" (aka Behringer). Behringer's first move was to release a series of Chinese-made Venice mixers with built-in AD/DA Venice "F" and "U" series. As of today, the only analog Midas mixer is the DM12 or DM16, a copy of the Soundcraft EP models. Midas is interested only in selling digital mixers. I never owned an old analog Midas Venice mixer. Maybe you can recommend me which mixer should I buy for my humble home studio recording: "Mackie VLZ PRO (USA) or Midas Venice (Germany)." The Midas mixer price is higher than the Mackie VLZ PRO but I don't care. I just want to get the best preamps to record old fashion analog style here. Best!

I like all the info right here! Thank you so much for sharing :) Honestly the Midas was smooth but did have the lowend a bit too light for my taste. All in all these two are best for use as „performance mixers“ anyway so if you can get a board with transformer input for some real flavour and direct outs you are golden. With that in mind the Midas at least have direct outs :) Hope that helps. All the best, Tobi

@@MidasDiem The SSL is amazing for mixing and amongst all transformer-less boards surely amongst the best out there. If you are interested in transformer color look into Studer 169/269 or the 900 series for example. Or just research what your local broadcast used in the 70s - that would be my era to look for if I want an amazing recording board with a bit of color :) If you want super clean SSL might be the way to go. High End recording boards would be APIs or Neves or Trident. Hope that helps! All the best, Tobi

I had one for years. I found the eq was a bit to fast. For rough things it was fine. The faders are a bit too short for my taste. Where the midas really shines, is all the routing possibilities and the durability of the unit. Because of all the routing features, it is really an electronic music production dream or a superb live console. If you are ok with the eq and the short faders, grab one!

Can barely hear the kick om the Midas, but the on the SSL it's really thick and juicy. How can this be? I was quite surprised by the vast difference in sound...

The midas has more (mono) channels in use than the, i think, 3 stereo channels on the ssl.

How can you say compare to the ssl six, then playback a completely different mix altogether than the one played before straight through the Venice, while simultaneously routing the SSL mix through the Venice channels?? Come on, this abandons common sense. lol. We are still hearing the Venice.
@tobitweaks
@tobitweaks 7 ай бұрын
What do you mean routing the SSL through the Venice Channels? You are hearing the individual consoles, just the balance is not 100% on point as the Venice does not have stepped gain controls. All the best, Tobi

@@tobitweaksI mean, Do you not also have the outputs of the SSL Six going through the Venice as indicated by the meters when you unmute the channels on it while playing that mix? Or when the camera cuts back and forth between both consoles is it playing a different sound or is it the same?
