Great share; a little tip on the first Q re gain input on the plugins; I gain stage each channel region before I start mixing and stripping silence; so these are all hitting roughly -6dB; (I mix into the BX_ssl channel strips) and I find this is a sweet spot for me;

That was the best, concise and entirely clear explanation about overdrive, distortion clipping and limiting I've seen so far. For some reason I always thought that clippers cut off the peaks in a hard way instead of limiters. So clippers actuallly 'bent' them using distortion and its the limiters chopping off then? If that's the case I'm sure I saw it explained wrongly somewhere else 😂 Thanks so much for your time & effort.

Hi Dvaid, dope video. Bro could you just give your opinion in something. I saw in one of your videos you using a pultec attenuation around the 100Hz to make the vocal sit back in the mix. I'm strugling to record some background vocals i a way to make them sound further and nice. Since my room is not treated they sound lil bit washed out when i sing far from the mic. In this case would be better to record at a closer distance and reduce the low end?

Great video ... On 2bus, when you go to Fusion do you ever use the transformer button (and what you think of it, does it kill low end and high's), or not, because of all the Neve's and other stuff that gives color in your chain? I know there's no rules, but sometimes it's too much just when you look at it, haha.

Transformer is extremely subtle and I probably engage it once every 30 mixes or even less. If you're not referring to the drive that is. Drive I used to use it more often, after the HG-2 I don't that much

I use my Neve 542's, is well documented. Not necessarily that often in mastering but if so, they're usually the 1st hardware insert (if I don't also use the HG-2 which in that case would go first)

Seems some may be getting confused by that thing that’s going around "don’t feed amp sim plugins with a hot guitar signal, keep it at zero on your audio interface." Totally different than running a track into an EQ or comp. Look up some videos on gain staging, it’s super super important! If you aren’t watching your gain going into and out of plugins, you’re leaving quality on the table.

It's not bad to try formulas, flip them around. And listen and feel the changes going on. Try maybe a couple of formulas, and see what does what. So you can know what to use when and how..
