Analogue since the mid 90’s. Phased it all out and sold it all off over the last ten years. Aaaannnnddd… started buying and using analogue again in the last 12 months!!! I just love playing with knobs… Seriously, I wouldn’t go back to an analogue desk again, mainly because of reliability/ repairs but I’m really getting into 500 series gear now.

I do live sound primarily and for that I really can't imagine going back to analog simply because of the headache of having to carry around multiple racks of expensive equipment (like for example compressors, effects). Not to mention the simplicity of digitally routing signals and it just simply working. And scenes make recalling settings for bands super convenient. Don't get me wrong I love analog, but for what I do it's not practical. If I were in a studio with stationary gear, I'd go with analog for that extra 1% that doesn't make sense in a live setting.

Absolutely agree. Personal workflow trumps the analogue vs. digital. I chose a digital mixer (Studiolive 32s) for hands on workflow and many inputs. But I supplement it with external preamps and compressors. Not quite as fluid as a full analogue desk, but better than controling an interface with a mouse.

I use analogue for tracking and mix in the box .. don’t know the if there’s a major difference , just enjoy the process and like my results

Great point of view. I never thought this way, and it makes perfect sense.

Great Vlog dude , just using my daw and in fact going back to all stock plugs in logic because it’s one hell of a money making scheme with every company trying to sell you the latest new plug-in. Learn my/ur Daw and get a good template 😊

If you don't use your analog console to mix your tracks it doesn't seem like there is much point. Just as easy to set the trims on micpreamps built into an audio interface or standalone micpreamps as the ones in a console. Now if you mix to an analog console this does offer you inserts and busses which can make using outboard gear a bit easier. The downside of a console is in most cases the lack of recall and not being able to automate things unless of course you have flying faders but most people don't own a console of that level. In the end use the gear that makes you happy. Lots of different options and ways to go from totally in the box to fully analog and all kinds of hybrid in-between ways to go.

As for sound, vintage analogue is not the same as modern analogue. I'd probably go with cheaper and more convenient digital rather than modern analogue.

If I could travel back in time and use the Rolling Stones mobile studio as cool as that would be I would feel lost without my DAW and the Digital World,😁

BEFORE: I find the analog v digital discussion incredibly tiresome because it turns into this needless pissing contest. What fundamentally matters is: 1) what you are able to obtain, 2) what you are able to deal with and 3) are you getting the best result out of it. Similarly, there are pros and cons when you look at the workflow options. And finally, no one *really* cares about how you got to the end result ... just that you have a result that's good. AFTER: Yeah, pretty much. Workflow and what you are able to acquire =]

The title of the video really has nothing to do with the video? The title should have been ‘I bought a console’? That said I’m all for buying a console. But im confused by your reasoning. All you need to do is set gain for each microphone. Hardly rocket science. I personally don’t see a difference between tracking on a console or using your rack. except for body exercises. Whatever floats your boat brother. Personally I’d rather a rack of 1073.

I think what you are discussing is specifically analogue WORKFLOW Vs digital WORKFLOW. What you are seeking is replication of that old desks workflow. Why? Because the channel strip approach has everything laid out in front of you and it's exactly the same over 24 or 48 channels. Only recently I have been able to mimic that workflow through using the SSL 360 app and a touch screen monitor. It's as direct a 1:1 replication of mixing on a desk as we'll get in digital

Any client, who's knowledgeable about what's important in the recording and mixing process, will only ask direct questions about a handful of recording studio equipment. The mics, monitors, and pre-amps. Maybe then questions about how expensive the AD interface is and then maybe then talk about the headphones and the computer being used. Other questions about fancy or shiny outboard gear will indicate that the potential client is probably a rich tourist and the day-rate should be increased by a minimum of 10 - 20% 😂😂
