Didn’t really get into the Evil Horde figures, but the first run He-Man villains were the best; Tri-Clops, Trap Jaw, Fak-or, and Beast Man are the best. Oh, and Man-At-Arms was the coolest. His accessories were excellent, but his mustache was suspect.

It's a bit of a meme for Gen X to brag about what great toys and shows we grew up on, but Masters of the Universe was the pinnacle for overall quality and imagination. The 80's was truly a golden age for children.

Depends on how you look at it. I was super into all of that stuff back then, outright obsessed and that is the issue and why I look back now with mixed feelings. They really went after kids hard and turned us into addicted little plastic junkies and trained us to be useful little consumers. Not that kids nowadays are off much better, but kids before the 80s probably were.
@palaceofwisdom9448

@@TrangleC It's funny to think of boys being turned into "useful little consumers" considering how little there is for grown men to buy ourselves. If you're not spending everything on a woman, the market has no idea what to make of you.

@@TrangleC Not a bad point concerning Gen X "plastic junkies". However, pick your pop culture poison. Current generations chase being in the know of all things streaming and social media. Severe FOMO grips the majority of them. In comparison, action figures start to seem less harmful.

Great video. As a kid i almost had all motu figures and buildings...and i was in love with She-Ra :D The evil horde really stood out to me. When i see Heman or the real Ghostbusters i always feel like a kid again. The 80s was a great time for kids. I remember getting up early to watch the saturday morning cartoons and eat cereals like Frosties. Today im still collecting action figures (in original package of course), but most from the 90s. My apartment looks like a toy store. A few month ago i sold a Skeletor (one of the first with soft head) from my childhood on ebay...i have to say i regret it.

I loved my Modulok, I'd say he was my favorite figure of the entire line, or at least top 5. But I was a kid super into Lego, Capsela, Zaks, Popples, and later K'Nex, basically any kind of building toy that snapped together, I had some pieces of a set if not a collection, so it was right up my alley. I recall the plastic being difficult to snap together, but not overly so, it was tough enough you could bang them on concrete if you had to, to pop a joint in. And while he lacks a Horde symbol, that just made him fit into any other adventure as a monster, so he could be fighting the Ghostbusters (Real or Filmation) just as easily as the Super Friends or the heroes of Star Wars, it was a huge range of figures at that scale and we all just mixed and matched as we liked.

I thought Modulok was the best of all the evil horde. When I got him Christmas morning my parents had to take him away for a bit so I would open my other presents. I was obsessed with him. Having the ability to create him how you wanted was huge. Kids have wild imaginations and Modulok allowed kids to do something other characters could not.

I have collected since '82 (with a hiatus during New Adventures) and as a kid The Evil Horde quickly became my favourite team. They were big and imposing and seemed to come out of nowhere with a totally new look. Leech is still my second favourite character (not strictly the toy, but in art, sculpts, etc) and my number one favourite character since 1983 is still Trap Jaw, so it's always cool to see others who hold him dear to their hearts. I love your videos and obviously found you by your MotU videos, but learning of other lines from your videos is so enjoyable. As a kid we had to make difficult choices as to which line to mainly dedicate ourselves to. I stopped collecting Star Wars when MotU came out. But I was also intrigued by Transformers, Dino Riders and Insectoids among others. Thanks for another great video mate! PS: I agree, Mantisaur was the king of the steeds and one hell of a memorable toy in the line's declining years.

i recently aqquired a Hordak on Ebay, and figured he needed a "BATTLE ANIMAL" to ride on as well, not knowing NOW.. that he had his own insect battle animal. i went and bought a second "PANTHOR" and did some painting, and configured a "CAT BATTLE ANIMAL" for Hordak, painted largely to resemble the rider in color. i don't ever do customs but for my first i am quite proud of my concept Hordak "BATTLE ANIMAL", which i named "GARR-GOYLE"!

As a kid I was given Castle Grayskull for my birthday or maybe Christmas and I loved that thing. I HAD to have Snake Mountain too though, I mean how do I play with a cool base for the good guys but not one for the bad guys?? My parents explained that those playsets are big and expensive, but as a small kid I didn't really understand that. My mom eventually did get me Snake Mountain... but... she made it herself! She looked at pictures of it in catalogs and made a cardboard box into Snake Mountain for me. She drew on it and made the pathways and rooms and whatever. I had rooms in the back, so she improved on that or just didn't see the inside possibly. Then the Fright Zone came out and of course I wanted that too, so my mom decided to make it for me again. This one was cool because she even made a monster hand puppet thing out of felt so I had the big monster that pops out of the wall to eat people. Were they as good as the real ones? I mean I can't sell mine and surely they lacked some of the features... but... even as a small kid I was REALLY happy with this because I could see that my mom cared about me and was awesome for doing this for me. I got a ton of use out of my homemade Snake Mountain and Fright Zone and I remember those probably more than my legit Castle Grayskull, though that was definitely a treasured toy. My mom actually didn't even really approve of me playing with He-Man toys. My collection started when a neighbor boy showed up at the door trying to sell a huge bag of He-Man toys he said he was too old for. She gave him like five bucks and I got like 10+ figures. I already had Star Wars and some DC Super Heroes at the time so she knew I was into action figures. I guess it was a good deal so she bought them from the kid and let me have them. I got plenty of new He-Man guys after that. I don't remember having trouble with my Modulok. I still remember the comic book for his figure. He put himself in a box in pieces and the good guys brought him into Castle Eternia, then he assembled himself into I think two creatures to go do whatever nefarious thing he was going to do in there. I do NOT remember him being Horde though.

The Evil Horde, alongside with The Snake Men, were amongst my favorite MOTU figures growing up and, more often than not, I favored them as villains over Skeletor and his Evil Warriors. I was lucky enough to have most of The Evil Horde figures back then, with the exception of Modulok, Multi-Bot and the 2 Hordak variants (Hurricane and Buzzsaw); as well as having both The Fright Zone and The Snake Pit. Great video as always, Tony; it brought back some good memories of simpler (better) times.

Tony, thanks for another great video. Generally speaking, I've always considered the first two years of He-Man figures to be the best ones of the line. I passed on the Horde when I was a kid, but they've grown on me over the years, and I'm now happy to own them. If anyone is a big Hordak fan, I recommend the DC Comics He-Man series from the 2010's. He's a very terrifying and powerful villain in that story.

We only had Mantenna as kids (my brother and I) but I loved the Horde. The Masters of the Universe commercials were the best of the bunch. The writers and actors all should be recognized because they made me want those toys, the Evil Horde one is especially memorable. I love how, even in a universe with some villainy looking villains like Skeletor and his crew, they made the effort to make the Horde even more monstrous in appearance.

I assumed they were pumped up versions of Skeletor's crew. Hordak is a more successful Skeletor. Grizzlor is a more savage Beastman. Leech is a more dangerous Merman. Mantenna is a more hideous Tri-Klops. Modulok is sort of a strange Two-Bad. But it falls apart with Dragstor and Mosquitor.

But he was always disappointed by the horde trooper, since he only got to town every few months it was always sold out. Heman teaming up with his hated enemy Skeletor against Hordak was a really cool spin on MOTU, Cool how GI Joe had a similar arc ie Destro/Hordak and Zartan/King Hiss... Awesome Tony 👌
