[Try4ce] Something that has been brought to our attention - the reason composite video looked much worse than the 2017 Nt mini is because of enabling the "Dejitter" feature. Turns out, Dejitter should only be used with component, RGB, and HDMI. Composite and S-video are MUCH less noisy when that feature is left alone, and seems to be very close to 2017 Nt mini and a real NES once again. I always thought the look of composite was one of the coolest features of the Nt mini because it made the video output feel so authentic. So I'm glad to stand corrected on this!

Analogue needs to get it together... They never respond to the community and they need to release a normal version of the NT mini, like the Super NT and Mega SG. It is starting to get ridiculous... Seems to Me that more and more they are turning into Apple than a retro gaming company.

@DEAD CHANNEL For the MiSTer, I would check out Digikey New Zeland for the DE 10 Nano. Only other "Required" part for some of the cores would be the Ram expansion board. You don't need the I/O board, and you can use a cheap OTG USB Hub or a USB Hub with a USB A to USB Micro adapter.

@DEAD CHANNEL if you don't own cartridges and you are mostly playing emulators currently, then maybe you should consider MiSTer even if it is expensive, simply because of the high number of systems that it simulates. There is a difference between a conventional software emulator and MiSTer :). Analogue products and original hardware are mainly targeted towards audiences that have game collections and/or space to store them. If you don't have any of that, MiSTer is definitely a better option if you want to experience those old games as close as possible to how they were intended to be experienced.

M.M., I don’t see any need for more. Now I’m just stuck in the ongoing grind with this company trying to buy their more affordable products I *will* use, despite their every effort to not want to seek one to me. My mission for the last year plus has been to pick up the Super Nt. It’s been out of stock for over a year. They just got a very small replenishment but didn’t notify customers who had been signed up for notifications. I hear sales went live and were limited to two per customer. People struggled. Per usual, to snag one and check out before they were gone again in minutes. Long story short, we have another round of pushed off customers and a whole lot of scalper units listed on eBay. I have never once encountered a company who hates their customers more than Analogue.

I’m not personally interested in the NES beyond a few games so I’m not in the market for one of these, but I find FPGA so exciting and your coverage of it is universally brilliant. I just picked up an Analogue Duo despite not owning any PC Engine games a week ago, because it was exactly the product I was waiting for. Something that lets me collect the PC Engine shooter library and play them with low lag, without having to worry about addons, reliability and RGB mods. Analogue fundamentally are releasing products that people really need, and they’re executing them well (barring some QC issues with this damn disc drive). So it’s a damn shame that they feel the need to include so much FOMO in their marketing strategy. There’s more than enough of that in the hobby already, I seriously think Analogue wouldn’t struggle to sell twice as many of these if they just… made them. And they don’t have a wider brand image that they need to maintain like Nintendo. So it just doesn’t make any sense to me. And the way they’ve handled the success of the Pocket by cashing in on limited run colour variants rather than just working on maintaining availability is disappointing.
@toffeeFairy4 жыл бұрын
It's more expensive than buying a famicom and nes both pre rgb modded from a good vendor ......, so I have no reason to buy it anyways, but amazing and really interesting video, as always. EDIT: Shipping from analogue to where i live costs 120 bugs extra and there are import costs to pay, that would come to another 80 bugs. Which is why I would really like to see an less expensive version of their solution similar to the super NT, which would've still cost me 350 bugs or a reduction in their crazy expensive shipping costs.
@yellowlemon1234 жыл бұрын

It would be nice to have the extra cores, though I’m only really worried about the Atari one - I have the Mega SD and Super NT which give me the others. For NES games themselves I don’t feel you need all the features of the NT mini. When the new run came out I did consider it, I could have sold the AVS to cover some of the cost, but I just decided it wasn’t worth the trouble and money. I’m excited about the Duo thought, I will be doing my best to get hold of one of those, I just don’t understand why Analogue have to do limited runs of consoles now.

So if we forget the price, the NT Mini is the best solution for playing NES games (exclusively) in 2020/2021 ?

I have both this and a av famicom with the nesrgb and the famicom is equal or better factoring in the minor audio inaccuracies in the noir. So id say the nesrgb is best for crt users or those with an ossc setup. Barring ossc or need for crt support, I would honestly recommend the avs over this. My controller ports on my noir have some issues, not to mention the shitty nes cartridge slot wiggle issue.

I only ever used the CopyNES feature once, and that was to dump an exclusive Homebrew title I bought a while back called U.X.O., or Unexploded Ordinances. It's basically a unique version of Minesweeper for the NES with freaking fantastic music! Figured I would dump it so I didn't have to pull out the cart every time I wanted to play it, as it's not a publicly available ROM and hasn't been dumped/shared online before. And no, I am not going to do that myself.

The N8 Pro, when set to the "Famicom Original" preset for expansion audio balance, performs the same as the Noir's simulated expansion chips. Now, can't really say which one is closer to the real hardware, perhaps the Noir's is a bit better for some chips. For FDS and Namco expansion audio games via N8 Pro, you'd want to enable the filtering for cartridge audio.

Shoutout to whoever made the subtitles... That must have taken some serious time.
@mylifeingaming4 жыл бұрын
[Try4ce] Actually not that difficult these days! You can just upload your script and KZbin automatically sets the subtitle timings. The only thing is you have to remember to first edit the script if you add things, delete things, shuffle things around, revise how you read something, etc.

I had the super NT, but sold it. I really enjoy the retro experience on a CRT with original hardware. But an Analogue product is so good. The NT mini is great too because the original hardware looks awful, even on a crt. I wish they'd release a cheaper NT mini

I really want something like this (well more like the Super NT Mini as US$500 is a lot) for the Playstation and Playstation 2. They're my 2 favourite consoles, so I would buy them immediately.

I own a Noir but my favorite FPGA NES clone? The RetroUSB AVS. Still available, nicely priced and the best physical design. It looks and feels like a real 1980s product.
@mylifeingaming4 жыл бұрын
[Try4ce] The AVS definitely hits this nice sweet spot of just feeling really practical and comfy. Some people don't like its design but I don't understand why. The Nt mini design isn't really for me - it's fun to shoot video of but I prefer my consoles plastic. Still praying for a NES from Analogue that matches their $200 units.

@@mylifeingaming seems inevitable right? Plastic cartridges are safest in a plastic console. Halfway through and loving the video by the way!

It would be great if Analogue and Kevtris could finally bring out an N64 FPGA, what with the lack of an N64 ‘Classic Edition’, N64’s absence so far from Switch Online, and with it being almost impossible to get hold of (the very costly) Ultra HDMI mod. I never bit the bullet for a Super NT or Mega SG, but an FPGA N64 with Ultra HDMI-like graphical improvements, that connected through HDMI to modern TVs and had the ability to play PAL and NTSC carts would be an instant buy for me.

the only thing I wish for the AVS is there was a jailbreak firmware to allow you to play games from an SD card, other than that it seems to be the best option until Analogue gets off their high horse and releases a $200 plastic model (plus re-release the Super NT)

“Disable Looped Noise” sounds like the way Hi-Def NES originally shipped. I even have a video of it where the dog only barks once in Duck Hunt (supposed to bark three times). Kevtris fixed it pretty long ago but I don’t think he fixed the issue I showed near the end of Ninja Gaiden.
