I really like the PS3 Slim design. No sharp edges, not bulky, and I like the curved design of it. Plus, I like how the buttons are on a little tray laying flat just outside the disk drive. They are easy to see and use when needed but stay out of sight and are not distracting nearly at all when playing. I really like that!

Makes me kinda sad that neither of you guys have a a vetrex! I love how the controller is docked on the system itself, making it a quite tidy, compact, unit. The handle on the back makes it super easy to carry around, so it's like having a semi-portable arcade cabinet. I'm biased, but I'd call it a "masterpiece of design"

The dialga and palkia switch lite with a skin (preferably d-brand) is the best scenario. You get the black buttons and d-pad,(one of only two lites that have that), with whatever color/design you want it it to be. If you dont like the skin, you still have an all black (almost gunmetal sheen) switch with minimal color. It is the only way I play switch on the go. It's perfect size.

Oh no way, just like Coury my first console was also the Master System (not first ever thing that played games though; that was the C64). I had the Master System II with the little flip top cartridge cover with Alex Kidd In Miracle World and I loved the games, but I agree, it's not as much of a looker. For me one of the only "masterpiece of design" is the original launch PS3 with the proper chrome/mirror trims, piano black panels, flip top card readers. Masterpiece in terms of looks and function but not in terms of cooling - they are not overly efficient at dissipating their heat, part of the reason the launch models roasted themselves to death in many cases. But Sony back then correctly knew, sometimes rule of cool wins, and sometimes a device needs to look desirable to add to the appeal.

[Try4ce] Hugely underrated game. I loved its commitment to the piano music and snowy setting, but some people thought that meant it lacked "variety." I dunno, "variety" is how you get every game hitting the same predictable beats of grassland, desert, ice world, lava world, a spooky world... I think committing to a theme and fully exploring it as a unified design choice can be much more interesting sometimes.

I like the Super Famicom BECAUSE of the curves. I also prefer the not-purple buttons on the controller. The blocky nature of the SNES may seem cool because of LEGOs or something, but... Try, you have things backwards. The '80s were blocky. The '90s were when curves started to be king. Then 2000 hit and everything was blocky again.

[Try4ce] I don't know if I'd call the Super Famicom's curves "cool" though, it's just kinda bulbous looking. But I'm also uncool, and like uncool things, so I don't hold that against it!

@mylifeingaming "Cool" is always in the eye of the beholder. But I would never say the SNES wasn't cool. I wanted one, but didn't get to have one until around '95. @Try what Sennheiser are you wearing? I just got the 560S but since they are my first open headphones I got no comparison, they are really good for me for sure but Id like to know what you think of those you have. Original PS1 would ve my favorite masterpiece of design!
@mylifeingaming12 сағат бұрын
[Try4ce] Mine are HD-599 SE. When my previous pair of Sennheiser headphones that I'd been using since 2009 (HD-555) fell apart too much to continue being my main set, I had a hard time finding a replacement and returned a few. I like "open back" headphones for things like recording podcasts and such because my own voice doesn't sound muffled to me while I speak during recording. At least, in theory. But I found that many headphones called "open back" didn't have quite the same characteristics of sound passing freely that I was used to. I think I even returned some Sennheiser pairs before finally settling on the ones I have now. And if I recall, even these didn't sound quite as perfect as my old pair at first, but I'm very used to them now, so perhaps an adjustment period should always be expected. Open back headphones don't prevent sound from being heard by other people as well as other headphones, but they do make it feel much more natural to speak while wearing them. I tend to use different, cheaper headphones for purposes where I don't want other people to hear my sound, and I'm not speaking, like playing the Switch, for instance.

This was supposed to be purely on aesthetic looks I thought Try
@mylifeingamingСағат бұрын
[Try4ce] I'll admit we may have not been super strict with that in all cases, but in situations where certain inconveniences with the design impact how you can present the system in your setup, I think it's valid to knock it a bit, because that affects the aesthetics of how it looks in your setup. PSTV, for example. It looks awful with a bunch of wires running out the back, and it's difficult to keep it in a stable location due to how you normally have to insert game cards. The initial impression might be "Oh that's cool how small it is," but then the reality of integrating it into a setup in a pleasing way is at odds with that first impression.

A-ha! That explains why you don't talk about the second generation very much. One person's first system was the NES and second person's first system was the Sega Master System. No talk about "wood grain consoles" like the Atari 2600 or the Bally Astrocade or the Intellivision. I guess you don't own any second generation systems. Now I know why you don't talk about the second generation very much why you think gaming for you guys started with the NES and Master System. I remember a couple of the dedicated self-contained consoles of the first generation the head only one game. But my passion blossom during the second generation during the Colecovision days. I noticed you did a series on controls but you never touched the second generation. That explains it. What are you guys think of those?

[Try4ce] Atari and Colecovision are in this video if you keep watching! I have gained more appreciation for Atari this year, and will briefly mention it in The Games We Played in 2024. I do have fun.

NES design a masterpiece? Nostalgia glasses. Itll be a miracle if you get a game working without the blinking red light of doom.
