The AP covers themselves are mini works of art....so beautiful visually and such quality. The actual sound of AP records is superb. Yes..the early Beach Boys music is fun and evokes happiness to the listener. Looking forward to part two.

Brian Wilson is basically deaf in his right ear so that is a major reason behind why he prefers mono to stereo

Brian is 94% deaf in his right ear, so he always liked the mono so he could hear what the end product would sound like totally.

Lovely. I have the AP stereo versions of ‘Surfer Girl’ and ‘Pet Sounds’. Need to get the ‘Surfin’ Safari’. A lot of overlap in our collections. Always a nice time watching and learning from you. Cheers.

Great video! I haven't seen someone feature all of The Beach Boys AP issues in a single video. I didn't pick up their entire run but I did pick a few of them. Pet Sounds in particular is the best I have heard it and beats an original US stereo by far!

Yes the Pet Sound is stunning. Both the mono and the stereo are the Royals in their segment.

Brian Wilson has a profound hearing loss in one ear which may explain his preference for mono.

I was lucky enough to see The Beachboys live in late 1978 - the voices were still great. Brain was "effected" and spent the whole time at the back of the stage. Carl was trippin' on something , and Mike was his usuall "artistic" self. Al was the glue for the band then.

Loving these videos on each label. How on earth do you find time to listen to all of these? I always loved The Beach Boys growing up but I only own Surfs Up which is a great record.

Revisiting this and deciding wether going with mono or stereo. Going for the Monos except for Surfer Girl stereo 45rpm.

I think Brian's preference for Mono may also have something to do with his hearing problems in one ear. He is apparently either partially or fully deaf in one ear, stemming from the many discipline sessions he received from his father.

To put it simply, Brian Wilson was dead in one ear, so stereo never did much for him, mono sounded best to him, and I personally think The Beach Boys do sound better in mono and I think he has a lot to do with that. Now after pet sounds and after the whole SMiLE fiasco where he wasn’t as involved anymore, I think those 2 following records (Smiley smile and Wild Honey) sound better in stereo, not mono, and I think that’s because Brian wasn’t as involved with the mixing anymore and it shows. Nothing wrong with the stereo mixes of their albums, I just personally prefer mono all the way up to pet sounds, but after pet sounds give me stereo.

Great showcase again! I bought the AP version of Sunflower this week. Love that record. Especially 'Tears in the Morning'. I have to try to get Surfer Girl in Stereo. Thanks for the tip! Do you usually buy at Acoustic Sounds? Don't you get billed with huge import taxes? I haven't bought AP versions from the US as of yet. Those taxes are holding me back. Mostly order them from jpc or amazon.de. If they are available...
