(I am just gonna copy paste my comment here LOL) Interesting game, so pretty much tactical Hunter XCOM-like game. The art style looks pretty cool, definitely looking forward to it.

Hello, publisher here! The developer has just released a Definitive Edition patch introducing a lot of the changes requested by the community, reworking many of the mechanics (including the corruption gain) and adding a lot of variety to the gameplay. Due to this occasion, the game is also currently 40% off! The game was also released on Xbox with all the aforementioned changes.

I still have my copy of General Chaos. My childhood friends stopped playing it with me long ago because I won almost all the time (mostly because i figured out how the game works from many many hours of play). Great game, but can definitely stress friendships if used poorly. :)

In this video: Strat-Edgy manages to lose his mind AND precedes it by unintentionally explaining how it was lost. All in the same video. ;) Although I'm a huge RPG and SRPG fan by nature ever since I first played Ultima: Exodus and Dragon Warrior, General Chaos was a personal vice for me back in the day. As I mentioned in a reply below: I still own my hard copy and used to get my childhood friends to play with me back in the 90s, but they stopped long ago because I'd win most of the time from the many hours of experience I put into it in single-player madness. After that, it eventually became a game I'd pop in every once in a while just for some random chaos until sometime around the PS1/PS2 eras. :)

The corruption mechanic has a ton of potential, especially if in addition to more active ways of managing it are added, they do something like have it buff combat power as you get higher levels of corruption. It could be a fun risk/ reward deal of trying to ride the line of higher power vs. chance of outright losing a character in combat to corruption. There's a lot that they could add in like a magic system that's only available to those like 3/4 of the way gone and spells do stuff like make everyone in a unit when they're cast get corruption points, or gank from Bloodborne the idea of enemies that can only be seen and attacked by units with high corruption. Equitable items with corruption requirements (high and low), and maybe even something like a mostly hidden mechanic where if you run too many units with too high of a corruption for too long, you run the risk of going on missions that you think are good missions but actually help the enemy.

This is a game where the devs very clearly saw a LOT of things that Darkest Dungeon did with its gameplay systems and mechanics and really LIKED those systems and mechanics, but very clearly DID NOT UNDERSTAND what made those systems work, both how the systems themselves functioned and how they worked with the game and all the other mechanics and systems overall.

There was a tactical *board* game called Heroes of Normandie, your typical "Axis vs Allies after D-Day" schtick. It was nice 2-player game. *However* they made an awesome spin-off called Shadows over Normandie - Achtung Cthulhu, 3/4-player game: Axis vs Allies vs _Chtultists_ vs the Elder Gods (depending on scenario). I wish THAT game got it's adaptation, even though Heroes sold much better :-(

Dude, if you are going to put that BEEP every time you swear, you might want to start by not swearing at all in your script. And I get that swearing is a tool, that it can really emphasize the points one makes, but that BEEP gets really annoying pretty fast. Otherwise, great video as always!

I had the same complaint about Hunt: Showdown. They give you these unique permadeath hunters but you just get another one with very little penalty. Would be way cooler if your characters had deep progression and veteran hunters were insanely valuable and powerful. Could lose limbs in combat and make a call to get expensive prosthetics or just retire em and buy a rookie or even struggle with crippling injuries. So many ways to make the permadeath aspect interesting and they just shit the bed basically. Mordheim and Bloodbowl are really good implementations of characters who are disposable but also very valuable to keep around and a tragedy when lost. Fire Emblem too technically but I never let characters die in that one- someone dying's basically a game over so I just restart missions in that one. Had this comment copy pasted for like 2 hours lol
@XxMeatShakexX4 жыл бұрын
@Moral Relativism Maybe competitively but that game's far from competitive. Some of the best guns in the game are low level budget guns so much so that they had to nerf the entry level stuff. Would just add a bit of weight to your character beyond "he has a perk to hold two medium weapons" that you can just reroll once he dies anyways. Ironically I consider the two examples to be way more competitive than the game lacking the goofy immersive features. It's also way more fun getting upset at your opponent who's just intentionally stomping out your best athlete until they're crippled beyond repair or dead just to spite you in a football match. Made you actions in the bubble affect the metagame outside of that bubble, now my best guy's gone and I still have an entire season to power through with my team how do I solve this?
@leninvladimirovich15544 жыл бұрын
Yeet if you’ve played battle brothers it’s an xcom-like hybrid of strategy + turn-based tactics that has a very blood bowl-esque permanent injury system for guys that die but succeed on a saving throw to get missing eyes, crippled knees, missing fingers, etc.

I agree, if a game almost require me to play one specific way or I can go fuck myself... then what is the point of me playing? Like I can say for example, what is the point of going non-lethal compared to lethal in a certain game if there's no difference except I get less experience for doing so cuz 'did not KILL the enemy', bigger issues looting an area or just fully BARRED from doing so, because I might not be able to get to specific locations without killing cuz I am not allowed to loot unconcious targets. It's why I initially did not enjoy Hades, because a weapon combo with a hammer upgrade made me feel like it was stupid of me to never go for any other build... and then I realized that certain other combos required various playstyles as well and then it was a lot more enjoyable. But if the game just had 'this weapon and this upgrade' is what you MUST pick or you're a stupid poopoo head, that's when I find no enjoyment and feel like it was a waste for me to play to begin with, cuz could go watch a youtuber play it instead and get SAME experience.

Why all the bleeps? A couple times it's really distracting (to be specific, 1:10 especially with "sperm in its daddies balls" soon after, the joke at 3:15 doesn't land well because of it, and 7:26), it feels somewhat out of place with the image you've created for yourself over the lifetime of the channel, and honestly is confusing in general considering the abundance of swearwords in the internet landscape. Regardless of this aesthetic stuff, great video, your commentary is always very insightful, I enjoy it.

And ... yeah ... indie games. I love that people come up with creative ideas. I just wish there were some way to give them AAA resources. Not for better graphics. $#!7, I still play Fallout 1. They just need ... more. Of everything. In every way. Hyper-focussed mechanics, poor balancing, missing features, lack of polish, bugs, etc. They're great for exploring ideas, but generally bad as actual games. Every rule has exceptions, but those are the exceptions, not the rule. Which when people used to put out their indie games for free (or god forbid you be old enough to remember commonware disk swaps) this is fine. But once you start charging real money for indie games ... just ... no. I know there's a lot of personal time invested in each labor of love, but unless they're sold at pennies on the dollar, they're waaaay overpriced for what they are, even when they are cheap. Do the math on the man-hours. Now do that math when that AAA game is a year old so half its price AND on sale. Writing indie games is not something to do because you need the money. It's something to do because it's what you love doing. I'm glad to hear that Alder's Blood is already taking constructive criticism like this review to heart. And it sounds like some interesting ideas are there. But it's still a hyper-focused unpolished niche idea-gasm that is not worth one third of a AAA game, no matter how bad so many AAA games are these days. Sorry fine people who wrote it. I applaud your creativity and enthusiasm, but deride your overinflated self worth.
