It is so cool that you contrast the two songs... it really shows how much Geoff makes each song his own. Thank you. PS, dear queen, you will enjoy Geoffs version of Jack's Lament... off with their heads indeed.

This song popping up in my KZbin feed last Halloween was my intro into Geoff and from him to VoicePlay. It will therefore always have a spot in my heart, but it being so fun solidified that spot even without the gorgeous vocals and songs I've heard from all of them since. Thanks for a fun reaction. It was great to see the old Bobby Pickett video. I might have seen it before (when I was much younger), but it was a hoot! As for Geoff... Don't know if you know or not, but VoicePlay dropped their October song today. It was glorious! And since it is a cover of a Disney song, I'm not sure whether you'll be able to react to it. I can't imagine that Disney lets reactors post their animations. It's "Hellfire" from Notre Dame and Geoff was spectacular as Frollo, with the rest as back up 'monks'. Everyone sounded rich and sonorous. The 'tone' out of each of them was gorgeous, with hints of liturgy. And as I understand it, Geoff's Halloween song for this year drops tomorrow. Unfortunately, it might also be tough for you to post the original of that one, too. If you cannot use these, then I'll say now that I hope you enjoy them yourself (even without us). I find you to be a very entertaining reactor (and a lot of fun!). Have a really good Halloween! 🎃

I am a patreon supporter for both Geoff and Voiceplay so I’ve seen both song’s already. But you’re correct- since they’re Disney they might be copywritten so we’ll see.

@@PandaBear221B I noticed yesterday someone else reacting to Jack's Lament by Danny Elfman Live. So that one you might get away with doing since it isn't the actual animation?

I've seen Geoff's version many times, but it's been a long time since I saw or heard the original, so I appreciate that you played them both back-to-back. I was actually very impressed by Pickett's original video, given the time it was produced. Of course, the original song is great too. Geoff's my guy, so his version remains my favorite, but it's closer than I was thinking, after revisiting the original!

Bobby Pickett's impression of Boris Karloff is really pretty good, as the original Frankenstein's monster. His faces often do have Karloff's look. He and Geoff Castellucci both do Bela Lugosi's accent as original Dracula - I think Geoff is better at that one, plus, of course, the dancing and harmonies.

Wow, Wow, Thank You, Perfect timing, Halloween closing in. Have heard, just 1st time seen, Bobby Pickett. Did not realize how good he was. & adding cover with Geoff Castellucci, Perfect choice. Not sure if you seen him sing 'Jack the pumpkin king',, so worth seeing....

I saw Bobby Pickett do it live on Dick Clarks American Bandstand. I think I was 10 years old in October of 1964. Liked his singing impression of Mr.Boris Karloff who was the first Frankenstein Monster in the 1931 movie. Love Geoffs' cover and his dance moves. I have it on my Halloween playlist. Geoff has a new Halloween video coming out tomorrow. From The Nightmare Before Christmas. "Jacks Lament". VoicePlay released a new video today from Disneys' The Hunchback of Notre Dame "HELLFIRE".

Bobby Pickett´s facial acrobatics creept me out. I thought the whole time: what if his face freezes this way. The poor guy... I loved your breakdown of both versions. But... I am addicted to VP and Geoff Castellucci.. no cure in sight.😉

Another fantastic comparison, I have wanted to watch this since it debuted, finally had time to sit down and see it. I've always felt that Geoff was doing more of a "Christopher Lee" performance rather than the 'Boris Karloff' one that Bobby did.

This was fun. Seen quite a few analysis, but not comparing both orig and cover. I forgot the nuances from the original. Its been a while, but watching his face was too funny. Geoff... well, I haven't seen anything by him that wasn't superlative. Thanks for the fun.

Two things you didn't mention that it takes a while to spot. When Geoff hits a very low note Kathy's leg twitches 2 or 3 times. And the Wolfman has fleas. The Geoff in the middle, between Dracula and Frankenstein's Monster keeps pawing and scratching at his hair. I love your reactions/analyses.

I love your reactions! I've heard the original a lot, it was re-released in the UK in the 70's (when I was young!), it got to #3 in the UK chart I believe..! I seem to remember it was on 'Top Of The Pops' (UK chart show), but before the day of music videos, it was probably performed to by the 'in-house' dancers, Pan's People! 😉

Pickett's version is what I grew up on and was so excited to hear Geoff doing it. It was my first KZbin music - I was doing news. Fur Elise was painful. Geoff did Jack's Lament 5 days ago and VoicePlay did Hellfire 6 days ago. If you haven't heard the Drunken Sailor - don't miss that. There probably won't be another video until after Thanksgiving. VoicePlay is going to play/sing with Chicago on Nov 17 and are working on the 3 songs they will be singing.

While I don't doubt that Geoff (and Kathy) had fun doing this video, it's also something of a sore point and running joke with them. They originally shot the video with makeup provided by Rick Underwood, a professional makeup artist who's worked on a number of Geoff's videos. After seeing the first cut, Geoff decided that the makeup was a little too graphic and they needed to do the whole thing over, except Rick wasn't available for that shoot and Kathy (if I remember correctly) had to redo the makeup to make it more "family friendly". So it's kind of a running joke that they have about always having to shoot their Halloween videos twice! I know that with the next one, Ghost Rider In the Sky, Geoff was learning how to integrate green-screen characters into his video, and it took FOREVER for his computer to render each scene, and then they'd find a mistake, make changes, and have to go through the whole process again! I don't think this year's video, Jack's Lament from The Nightmare Before Christmas, didn't have as many problems - but the piano was a pain!

I had seen that in the BTS video on patreon, lol. I hope shoots start cooperating with them soon

Bobby Pickett was lip-synching with great verve. All the Dick Clark show performances were lip-synched as you can tell by the rather large microphone Dick has--there were no small mics back then. You have to admire Bobby Pickett standing up there doing his utmost to look absolutely ridiculous making faces to the song and pulling it off.
