The US and China exchanged words about a suspected Chinese spy balloon as military officials revealed other incursions. US officials said the downed craft was massive in size.
The quarrel between Washington and Beijing over the incursion of a Chinese balloon into United States airspace continued on Tuesday. The suspected surveillance balloon was shot down off the South Carolina coast on Saturday after a days-long journey across the US mainland.
When asked on Tuesday whether Beijing had asked the US to return debris from the balloon, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said it belonged to China.
The US Coast Guard has imposed a temporary security zone in waters off South Carolina during the military's search for debris from the balloon.
US President Joe Biden said the plan was always to shoot it down, but Republicans are criticizing the time the president took to respond.

The ONLY action that should have happened was China alerting the US that a stray "weather balloon" has drifted over north America. But since that didn't happen, the only logical conclusion is it's not a weather balloon.

At this point, I’m already tired of China’s circus. Remember, when they sent fishing boats near the Philippines; they said, it’s fishers looking for shelter from the typhoon. Next thing you know, they’ve already occupied the islands. When they said, they’re just going to build an observatory and will not militarized the area; they already built man-made islands complete with airport and defense facilities. 🤷🏻‍♂️

US and China know where all of their aircraft are at all times and also tightly monitor borders. Why would China not call US and explain if it were a weather balloon? Needless to say, China shot down US spy balloons twice in 1973 and 1957, and some flew to the Soviet Union through Northeast China. How come both of these guys say they can't think of a logical explanation why the balloon was in us airspace and then failed to mention that it was loitering around three different military bases and nuclear silos???

May Taiwan remain a free democratic independent nation! Every time the prc tries to send over a balloon, we should pop it. Give the prc the bird after and tell em to eat it. Time to take a tougher stance not just with the prc but also with russia, iran and north korea.

Taiwan has got to be on pins and needles!!! China is flying military jets into Taiwan's airspace weekly if not on a daily basis!!! One of the Chinese jets flew dangerously close to one of our military aircrafts recently and it may be only a matter of time before our pilots fire on them for fear out of an actual collision!!! What will happen then when a US military jet shoots down a Chinese fighter over the Taiwan straight?!!!

Even if it was a "weather" balloon it certainly did look like something that could bring bad weather. No matter what, it was perfectly OK to shoot it down. Otherwise China should have told in advance as soon as the balloon went in the direction of US airspace. The Chinese knew very well but never said a thing. That was foul play and then the balloon has to be taken down. Well done, USA. [Edit] At least the common Chinese people agree that USA was right in taking it down.

These commentators need to learn many sayings in East Asia to describe the mainland Chinese. They were passed down from our ancestors to teach us who they are as it’s been known to be puzzling to deal with them. One famous one is “Don’t listen to what a Chinese say, only look at his actions”, meaning who cares what Chinese say since they always lie, you have to decide based on their actions. What they say doesn’t matter as they never stick to their words. For real.

This raises some questions: 1. Who owns the balloon? 2. By whom and when was the Chinese state notified? 3.Which party has the main responsibility? 4. Who has the primary diplomatic responsibility. If the balloon is owned by the Chinese state, the answer to questions 3 and 4 should reasonably be China.
