Analyze Insane SpaceX Starship Splashdown Method In Upcoming Launch!
What would mark the beginning of the fully-reusable rocket?
Maybe we'll get the answer next month when a monster called Starship will fly up, undergo a magical journey, and then return by splashing down into the ocean.
Yeah, that's splashing down. It might not sound as impressive as landing on a drone ship or being caught by Mechazilla Arm, but it will be a crucial part of the development of the Starship project.
Analyze Insane SpaceX Starship Splashdown Method In Upcoming Launch!
So why does SpaceX use this method instead of more impressive methods? What future will the splash-down method open up for Starship?
Join Great SpaceX to find out the first step SpaceX will make on the path toward the pinnacle of rocket reuse-splash down.
Flight 4 is coming so close. Besides a strong liftoff and an impressive separation, both SpaceX and the aerospace community are eagerly anticipating the end of this journey: the landing. The upcoming Flight 4 will use the Ship landing method, just like previous flights, with a splashdown.
In simple terms, this method involves letting the Ship fall straight onto the ocean surface.
Analyze Insane SpaceX Starship Splashdown Method In Upcoming Launch!
According to the schedules of Flights 1 and 2, the splashdown will take place around T+1:30 in the Pacific Ocean. However, for Flight 3 and the upcoming Flight 4, this will occur around T+1:05 in the Indian Ocean. Choosing the Indian Ocean simplifies the landing process, allowing SpaceX to focus more on the earlier stages, especially re-entry. Flight 3 did not reach this milestone, so all hopes are now placed on Flight 4. If you're looking forward to this flight, please give a like, share, and subscribe to this video to show your support and determination for SpaceX.

Heat shield didn't fail inflight 3, the ship had a rotation on it due to a stuck thruster meaning the ship rolled in re-entry and ended up facing backwards exposing part of the ship without tiles to the atmosphere and re-entry heat

About 70% of the earth's surface is water so Starship needs to have a splash down option for future possible emergency situations. Testing with a splash down is both safer for ground equipment and is very useful for knowing how the Starship will actually behave in a splash down situation. I would think splash down in saltwater will eliminate the reusability of the rocket engines. The space ship with little fuel on board is resembles a nearly empty metal soda can so it will likely float very well. Starship needs to have crew escape systems. Just having ejection seats for a last second failed repulsive landing attempt would address a large concern for crew survivability. Crew escape system for use in thermosphere need to be developed. This includes near orbital speeds and thermal heating. Ejecting in the mesosphere and stratosphere might need to take place if there is a failure of control surfaces of Starship such as happened with the Space Shuttle. These crew escape system might incrementally increase in ability from lower to higher atmospheric crew escape systems overtime and the lower expectation of risk for occupants for larger use. Escaping failed repulsive landing is the highest concern and addressable with bomber plane ejection seats and parachutes. High altitude supersonic ejection system have been developed, but need further development. Some type of personal capsule ejection parachute pod based around occupied chair is an obvious, but possibly not a final solution.

Pacific Ocean seems to be the most logical place as it's not as far from America. The trouble is... it is also not far from Chinese access. I wouldn't put it past them to try to claim it for themselves. They could probably try that trick no matter which ocean the starship lands.

Is it necessary to fit a heat shield? Is it not currently technically feasible to actively slow down a spaceship to such an extent that no dangerous heat is generated when it enters the atmosphere?🤔

Spacecraft have to lose as much energy coming back as was put into them to get up. Losing that energy as heat to the atmosphere is MUCH more economical than hauling enough fuel to orbit to come back with a "powered" deceleration.

PLEASE! Obtain more up to date CGI animations! Refueling will involve the two ships docking side to side with the two connectors used by the OLIT QD arm facing each other with an adapter to connect the ports. SpaceX has clearly indicated that at least flight 4 and 5 will deliberately CRASH horizontally. Why? Because hitting the ocean in that way will cause the methane "downcomer" to crack resulting in the remaining propellants burning off and the Ship sinking safely. Flight 6 is the earliest flight in which the much more complex method of hovering the Ship in a simulated catch will be performed. That will almost certainly be performed offshore of a USN base, probably the one on Kauai. This soft landing will be monitored by cameras and aircraft launched from the base to follow the Ship as it comes in for its landing. Once the Ship is safe because it has consumed all of its propellants, the USN will deliberately sink it.

Why are you talking about 'splashdown' for Starship when for the SuperHeavy booster the description is a 'virtual tower'. The Starship will eventually be landing in the Mechazilla arms, if they are tracking the landing/splasdown at all, there must be some control mechanisms at work. Why not practice the eventual Mechazilla landing now?

Great SpaceX, and the other 10 spacing sites I follow, have reported nothing on this subject. Either SpaceX has not figured out a fix or you reporters have dropped the ball. It has always amazed me that knowing the complexity of landing with the chopsticks will be the most complex procedure for starship flights i.e. it is hard enough to launch and deorbit successfully now they include the stupid idea of catching the starship and booster with the chopsticks. And now they will land the starship on the Ocean-another stupid idea. What will happen to the heat shields when they come in contact with cold ocean water? Why not just build a landing site somewhere???
@tidan4575
@tidan4575 28 күн бұрын
Cause landing sites are expensive and take years to build compared to a single starship rocket. Plus rockets around that size are extremely difficult to tow around once they run out of gas. Plus the ocean is one of the biggest unoccupied locations. You don't have to worry about cleaning up the litter later or hitting somebody if you're thousands of miles off target.

The only problem SpaceX has is that they can’t land booster and starship with cgi. Unfortunately they have not redesign the entire rocket. Building the rocket bigger only creates a larger bag of worms. The entire rocket is over weight by a factor of 9x. If they do manage to correct pitch, yaw and roll the tiles will delaminate sooner. Booster will not be able to land unless they hot stage early. The booster frame can’t withstand a total of 4 full minutes of burn time without disassembly of the boosters fuel lines. This will create an explosive situation and it will also stop engines from relighting on the return to slow the descent. As long as they go with 33 engines and a stainless steel frame. Every flight will have the same ending. Every loss of the full rocket brings starship closer to the space junk yard.. lip service will not keep the government purse open.

really ... sometimes the information in the videos on the channel surprise me. The challenge in flight 3 was not the heatshield. The ship was rolling, therefore sections of the ships received reentry heat which have never been planned for this. The roll is the problem SpaceX is focussing on. Not a single word on this here. And the whole discussion about the landing is just unnecessary. SpaceX will never again use landing legs ... they will splashdown the ship until they are able to catch it. There is not a leg system integrated and there are no plans to integrate them. It would be great if there is a bit more information and less guessing on this channel.
