First of all, I'm not a psychologist. I've had therapy for years, but that doesn't make me a professional. I don't think anyone can tell what's happening in another. This is just how I feel seen in his charakter and how I understand his story. ❤❤❤

I only just now realize the parallel between Astarion saying he can be better than Cazador at the start and end of his story. At the start, he craves control over others and mocks the idea of being a good person. Sure, he wants power. But more than anything, he doesn't believe he can be good. He gave up any hopes of being a good person decades ago. But realizing that he can be good, that what Cazador did to him wasn't final, is the last push Astarion needed to break the cycle. And I think this story is even more impactful if he's romancing a resisting Dark Urge. He looks at his situation of being threatened and controlled from an outside perspective and can extend his past self some grace. Even more, he proves to himself that he wants to care for others, even if that means putting trust into someone who could hurt him.

@@thecheck968 thats funny - I made a reel of exactly that :D This shows his development during the adventure. And yes, i also love the durgestarion romance, because it is a mutual recognition and reinforcement that you can be someone other than what you were made to be.

Wow! That was an amazing video! I must admit, I was one of the few, who was actually scared of Cazador. He reminded me so much of someone in my past. Not because of his looks, but what he said and how he treated Astarion. Cazador is a very well crafted Character, and I don't get, why people laughed, when they first saw him. Guess they never met a person like him. Astarions coping mechanisms are so similar to mine own, that, when I confronted Cazador alone, I even panicked a little bit. Since that moment, I always take Astarion with me, as an emotional support (that sound so stupid, haha). 😅 I can confidently say, that we keep each other safe ❤
@OonalovesAstarionssimpleplanАй бұрын
@@HastursQueen Thanks alot. I always thought that someone had to do that and that was the best I could give... 'comfort character' - 'emotional supporter' might sound absolutely crazy. But for those who see themselves in his coping mechanism, that's exactly what he is. It was the same with me, I felt caught and at the same time it was like I had found a good friend.

First of all: Thank you for the video! I watched it when you uploaded it earlier (then was worried because removed it) but I gladly watch it again. I hope you are proud of your work because it turned it really good ❤ Tbh I am always amazed Astarion isn't more messed up after 200 years under Cazador---probably because he wasn't born into that weird pretend-family. Cazador is insanely disturbed on a level that exceeds the usual "vampire-evil-blah-blah", all of which would be enough for it's own essay (especially his uhh "questionable" relationship with children if you know what I mean). He was a person before all of this happened, even if he can't remember his past life. Even after being punished for so long for showing compassion, he is still carries some sympathy inside of him---especially towards Durge, children and animals. Saving the hyena right at the beginning of act 2 is probably the first time you see a different side of him. He also mentions only feeding on rats, while the other spawn talk about feeding on all kinds of stray animals (dogs, specifically). I know a lot of people don't like that Astarion doesn't get his perfect ending where everybody is happy and he is "fixed", but that is what is appealing for me. The epilogue made my cry the first time I played it. Healing is a journey, that can take years, decades, and sometimes....things never heal ("staying in the shadows"). Trauma shapes you in ways you might now realize and it's important to recognize it and be kind to yourself ("accepting the shadows are a part of you"). Not just be kind to who you are right now, but also who you used to be, the "weak" version of yourself that did not manage to free themselves of the abuse. That does not mean you should give up and not try to get better (" walk in the light again"). But don't be disappointed when it doesn't work out---it's the journey that counts. You can be happy again either way. I also want to thank you again for still making videos about BG3/Astarion, even after over a year after the official release. Danke ❤

@@Louves192 Thank you very much for your words and for supporting me for a long time. There's a lot more we could talk about on this topic and the video could last an hour. I think it's important to exchange ideas and find a community in which you can do that. And yes, I see it the same way you do with the happy ending. A happy ending made it unbelievable. simplifies the reality of the topic. (we're just used to Disney films ig) but I'll be honest, on some days I would do an ascension - Shit on my inner peace, cause trouble for a few years and some hero will kill me. But then I draw so much strength from the hope that Spawnastarion represents not to let my fears guide me and at some day arrive a a point of satisfaction.

15:33 "who does he wants to be?" Player lets him see the world. That forms his vision of who he wants to be. Like a babychick, following his mom. So he decides after seeing what you gave him to see. Remember, he just started to be his own person

@@pocketbread7535 I don't know what you're trying to achieve by calling him a baby chick. For me he is not a puppy. For me he is more of someone who is learning to walk again after a serious accident.

I don't speak English. It wasn't intended as an insult or to reduce him to the phrase "I can fix him." He is facing serious issues (for the rest of his existens, it will never fully go away) and I am sure the author has done hir research or has personal knowledge on the subject. I love him and see him as a fluffy, angry cat, but since I also have experience with this stuff myself, I wouldn't even touch someone like him with a fork in real life. The babychick was just some kinda adoring way to make light of the f'ed up stuff hes facing. I tend to do it in real life too, otherwise i wouldnt function haha~

@OonalovesAstarionssimpleplanАй бұрын
@@GabrielBadwolf in context with the comments on the meme before. people who hate Astarion like he's a real person... he's a story about trauma and ways to deal with it. just like people who are into babyfiing and complaining that it's not allowed to be made fun of him. Buuut..I would like to say to your Santa Claus that he does not symbolize a topic such as trauma. Astarion isn't real, but the topic is... and depending on what is said in the context of Astarion, it could hurt a real person with trauma though. So. No need to hate or protect him, but do have respekt of real peoples feelings.

9:21 People drawn in this video or to Astarion’s story needs to be treated just like how people who has similar characteristics as him. They may have or know someone who has PTSD. Let’s all show respect of someones individual opinions and beliefs, refrain from ascertaining things. Phrases like “ its JUST this and this”. Oona I think you did a wonderful job representing what Astarion symbolizes. But saying he’s not real can be invalidating to some people who developed PTSD through narcissistic people. Gabriel I think you have a great sense of humor and you are correct that joking can be a coping mechanism to deal with our trauma. Sometimes though even if we have good intentions or no mal-intent at all our actions or words can be misinterpreted or misunderstood. My intention for writing this novel 😂 I-i mean comment is so that people can (or my hopes you two) see that these kinds of statements have no negative intentions but simply symptoms of the parasite called ptsd. And that the person with trauma has a responsibility to themselves to heal themselves of those While the people interacting with others (who has ptsd or not) to show compassion and understanding towards everyone. You both -just like me and others who have ptsd - need support, compassion,and understanding.

@@MonicaPlays26 I'm referring to the fact that Astarion isn't real (i.e. that it makes no sense to hate him because he's not real) but that he represents many signs of ptsd...that are real. and that these people should consider that.
