Bors probably had the biggest character growth in the whole series, he was replaced by Lyn through the whole game, replaced by Wolt for his village utility and overshadowed by Lyn... Yet he was reviewed at the end. Truly we can learn something from this. It's never to late to redeem yourself, to change for the good. Bors did it, and if a 5 Mov unit could eventually catch up to everyone and show his worth YOU can also do it. Be the best version of yourself and achieve your goals, just like Bors did. And if you're hopeless, just remember: There's still hope. Even small things like getting a 2000G village in Ch1 are enough to be considered useful, so don't overdo yourself, start small then climb up. I know you can improve. Bors ended up achieving his goal, getting the recognition he deserved, now it's time for you to do it. Be like Bors. Have a nice day everyone✌🏻

Melady threw me for such a loop when I first got her: "Very solid stats across the board in a valuable class, but she's lvl 10 already. She must be a pre-promote without any room for growth." "Wait... She's NOT promoted with those stats?! She's better than a number of my higher level units... What are her growths? Playing Hard Mode really made me appreciate Marcus, Zelot, and Cecilia. I missed like every promo item except Orion's Bolts until like Chapter 14, and they were all brilliant at covering for my unit deficiencies. Capped Myrmidon Rutger was a better boss duelist since 20 Spd, but those three were all deployed in nearly every chapter until we got some promotion items. If we're talking total value added Marcus was the best unit easily, and him and Zelot made my nightmare chapter, Ostia, bearable. Marcus's supports with Roy and Alen helped, too. Cecilia got a support with Lilina, which is of questionable use but they make a good magic battery when they both reach S Anima, with Cecilia able to rescue Lilia away if things get too treacherous. Zelot didn't get any cause screw using the Ilian cavaliers and the Pegasus Sisters are flying.

I remember my last playthrough. I did horse emblem. Only horse units and Roy. Percival was the mvp of course, then Allan, Lance, and shin. Treck got blessed pretty well, and dayan, zealot, and Marcus had their usual good bases. Cecelia and clarine were amazing of course, heals were vital. And Sueand noah never gained str all game, so they did nothing.

I believe Cecilia has very workable stats for Normal Mode, and she still does good support in Hard Mode, so even though I could like her to be a bit more powerful, the thing that actually annoys me about her the most is the fact she isn't able to use Physic from the beginning, specially because it's actually possible to get Perceval in the previous map, and he's for some reason allowed to have perfect ranks in every weapon, but Cecilia has to confort with in C Staves. And BTW, about the thing with Sophia's fraility, she is among the most fragile units, but the most fragile is actually a tie between Saphy, Lara, Tina and Sara (a total of literal 13 physical bulk, damage above that insta kill them), special mention to Lara and Tina for actually even fragile to magic attacks.

I like the points Raisins gave about Roy compared to all the "Roy is the worst lord in the series" comments I've seen from online forums and heresay. Idk if I'd personally agree but at the same time I'd need to play FE1-3, 5, and 12 before I can put my thoughts together on the lords.

Alm is actually good. Marth is a sword user you get early with good growth which already puts you ahead in FE1/3, and Leif has the light brand and lacks a stramina meter, and also promotes early (even if the promotion is trash). Roy has... high luck for a FE6 character? In FE12 Marth isn't as good as the older games, but I would still put him above Roy.

@@DrewPicklesTheDark Roy is strange because he's not that bad in the early chapters; Rapier can put in some real work in the Ostian mini-arc and his growths are fairly good. And being swordlocked isn't the worst thing in the world in early FE6 because competent 1-2 range is surprisingly rare in the first half of the game. However: 1. Outside of the actual endgame, literally every sword-user in that game is better in combat than Roy, except for Yuno, the thieves, and maybe Treck. 2. Roy quickly becomes an XP sponge if you do use him consistently. But he's not very good if you don't feed him experience in the early game. Not the worst lord, because he does have a few chapters where it makes sense to throw him onto the frontlines. Which makes him slightly better than FE11 Marth, the actual worst Lord if you're not doing Excelblem strats. But MAN is he disappointing.

Actually, I take that back. Roy is the worst lord, because FE11 Marth rewards you if you train him with better generics. Important for Ironmans. 'Can save your run if you're doing really poorly' is better than 'Can modestly contribute to combat for the first 1/4th of the game.'

@@maltheopia Roy at least has a promotion and gets one of the most broken weapons in Fire Emblem history. Even without growth, he doesn't have too many issues dealing with the Final Boss (albeit with some support from a stronger unit). Roy's biggest issue is that the maps are just so big and the fact that every map is a seize map pretty much means that he isn't going to see that much combat on a chapter-to-chapter basis. His Rapier is also extremely helpful in Chapter 4 since you don't really have any other options to deal with those obnoxious cavaliers unless you go through extreme means to get the Halberd. Marth is sword locked in a game where swords aren't even that good. With how the mechanics work, Marth ends up being way too weak against the mooks and can't even outspeed shit where everything is so fast. His Rapier doesn't even do that good damage especially when you have to forge it while the Riderbane and Wing Spear forge cost less due to their higher base power. He even got robbed of his only niche in FE1 where he was the only good way to deal with Medeus, now Medeus is just way too strong for Marth and kills him effortlessly. The only way to reliably deal with him is to revive Tiki and to two-shot him.

Axes are a terrible weapon type in FE6. Even Berserker Gonzales with the Skill Bookz has trouble consistently killing enemies. And Geese doesn't have Gonzales' lolwhut damage/speed where it doesn't matter if he misses the first strike of a 60% hit / 65% crit. I mean, bottom 5 is a little harsh because there are a load of trash units in FE6 -- and Geese is at least usable. But he is a pretty bad unit.

@@AdvanceWarrior I did finish the game, and with the good ending, but the early game was just straight up painful, and Roy got pretty bad level ups so he ended up being basically useless up until Zephiel's chapter when Roy finally got the Binding Blade, and even then I still didn't use Roy that much.

Eliwood is solidly worse than Roy, at least in HHM. - Roy has forced deployment - Roy has 3x effectiveness against early cavs - Roy has the Binding Blade in the last few levels

So I have to chime in and say Mekkah completely underrates/undersells Karel. Karel actually meets almost all the criteria for an excellent unit in FE6. 1. In what world is 44HP, 20Str, 28Skl, 23Spd, 15Def, 13 Res and 18Lck not amazing bases? Even without his insane growths, you get monster bases. 2. Swordmaster with added 30% crit on top of Killing Edge and Wo Dao. 3. S Rank Swords, which means he can wield Holy Weapon Durandal well with no investment and 30% crit on top of it. 4. His character story/background is great, and themes well with his high growths which gives him. Its an interesting quirk that makes him even more distinctive. Excellent gameplay-story integration. Now you can say his availability is bad, but thats not actually true. You can only say availability is bad if you need to train a character up for the rest of the game. But Gotoh's don't need that. Their entire function is to be awesome in case your characters got RNG screwed or died. So I would definitely say Karel, while not the best character in the game, is still pretty damn good and not merely serviceable.

The problem with Karel as a Gotoh: A) Because FE6, unlike games like FE7 and FE14 and FE5, is designed in such a way that you need to get all of the optional content just to use him it's very likely that you won't even need him. If you're able to grab Apocalypse and defeat Zephiel, you already have characters capable of beating the game. The only scenario in which you would be struggling once Karel is available is if you got completely rolled in Zephiel's throne room. B) His join map doesn't play to his strengths at all. If your army did got rolled in Zephiel's chapter such that you just barely managed to get to the final map, Karel can't really do anything about the status staves or fliers or ballistas or Brunnya. He can delete a couple of the Manaketes as a player-phase unit, which is helpful, but he won't turn your game around. C) Most of the better Gotohs are good enough that even if you're playing well and getting all of the bonuses, they can still find a place on your team. Athos is still worth deploying even with a capped Nino. Ced/Saias/Galzus are still worth picking up even if you scroll-abused. If you're using Fir or Rutger as your boss-killer, they will likely already be better than Karel. And all Karel brings to the table is 1-range combat. D) If you know about the Secret Shop, Karel is even more useless. Most people don't buy 12+ boots, but you can still turn 3-4 units from passable to outright monsters just by patching up their bad stats. Lilina or Thany or Dieck or even Armads Bartre/Garrett only need about 2-3 stat boosters before they're good for the rest of the game.

characters in FE6 through FE10 have an elemental affinity which affects the bonuses they get from supports in FE6, Fire grants bonuses to attack, avoid, hit, and critical rate - it's generally considered the best affinity in the GBA games

Honestly Tate feels really underrated to me, her base strength and growth aren't on the same level as Miledy so she'll take a while to get going but once she does her offenses will be a bit behind your paladins and with an energy ring she will one round many if not most of the enemies through the mid to late game, of course the stat-boosters she might need to get going could be better used to patch up Miledy or Percival but they usually do well without them and a second combat flier can be amazing even through her poor defenses, overall though even without resources like stat-boosters or using silver lances she stil manages to be a flier with decent to good combat which is amazing in a game like FE6 where most of your units genuinely suck

Honestly Ameila can still go paladin and fe8 is much easier to use her given that javelin on her don't have 26 hit, so I'd call Wendy worse. I mean Wendy is an armor knight that can get one rounded by an archer next to her starting point. JESUS.

This series disregards Tower of Valni farm though, so getting Amelia to a point where she's a remotely acceptable unit is similarly rough. I think I probably agree with you though, for Amelia there is at least SOME way of feeding her xp by throwing sticks at zombies. FE8 is more friendly to investing in your units.

Roy is force deployed in all maps, so there's much more of a reason to consider him over other units. He's still not amazing, but he's always there. Much better than you can say about most units in fe6

@@tfraenckel Roy is something of a trap because he needs experience earlygame to stay relevant. But if you keep feeding him experience he'll quickly become an XP thief due to his absurdly late promotion. I'm sure there's a way to game out how much experience to feed Roy so that he won't steal experience, can keep up at least through the Western Isles, and still be strong enough to delete midgame cavaliers. But I've never seen anyone get that formula right. Even when his (fairly good) growths work out, Roy either becomes an XP thief or becomes too weak to keep up.

@@maltheopia there is more than enough XP go go around. That definitely isn't a problem. Rutger doesn't struggle at all to get to level 10+, and he, along with Marcus and Zealot will carry you all the way to Milady, with just a couple other units. Roy taking some stabs here and there with his Rapier isn't gonna cause any issues. Not like Alan and/or Lance won't have enough to promote if he does. Let's say you're training 5 units, which is a reasonable number early game. Let's say you're training Alan, Shanna, Lugh, and Sue, and Rutger by chapter 7. Let's say there's... Idk, 700 XP available (not really how xp works but close enough), and you split it evenly. Lets say each gets 100, Marcus "steals" 100, and the last 100 goes to various other units you used for chip damage. If you just squeeze in Roy there, and split their share among those 6 now, that's still 86 XP for each of them. That's only like a 14% reduction. Not to mention that lower level units actually get more XP than higher level units, meaning the percentage is even lower, probably under 10%. That is NOT going to matter noticably at all, maybe a couple promote half a chapter late. Big deal, plenty are gonna have to wait way past 10 for their promotion item to show up anyway

That kind of fussing over XP is boring considering you don't even get a B-tier unit if you manage to play the 'feed Roy kills' game correctly.

@@Mekkkah That is true, I have seen those and enjoy those videos too; some of them are admittedly harder to follow because I haven't seen timestamps set up a side from occasional comments popping up. Plus, I do overall prefer simplified 1 to 5 star ratings for each character as opposed to tier lists that rank every single character from best to worst. It's strait forward and I'd say less controversial since it's basically "These characters are really good, others are really bad, and most are in between". Though, I may have missed it if there was one that covered all the Binding Blade characters on tier list. Which video was that as well as a time stamp?
