The color really worked to this game's advantage, especially as the story progresses until the world literally looks like a fiery inferno hellscape. Those early missions, I think by design, really was to lure people into thinking "oh maybe this war isn't so bad" and then next thing you know, it's all gone to hell...literally. Actually pretty powerful world and story telling through just visuals.

I like how this game has a limited HUD. Forcing you to focus on what's in front of you and properly assess the situation before executing commands. The way things would play out could be very different if a mini map was included with points on where you are and the enemy followed by flanking points. At that rate, you would be looking more at the map than at the battlefield trying to understand what to do. Love how similar it is to Star Wars Republic Commando but with a different theme and number of allies. Would wish if you could revive or be revived, would really add stakes to if its worth continuing the fight or risking your own to avoid losing numbers.

One of the most satisfying details in this game is how shell casings eject from the guns and go twirling out with little smoke streams following them. Not realistic but it sticks out to me as one of the nicest little things I've seen in a game. Combine that with the throaty bark of the BAR, the satisfying metallic cyling of the M1 Carbine, the firey ejection of the Grease Gun, and the rip of the MG42...just listening to this game is a treat. The gameplay and graphics, for me at least, have aged very well. This game manages to present a linear narrative through mostly linear levels without ever feeling linear or repetitive- even after playing the game for years, now. A sequel set during the Battle of the Bulge and the battle for Germany in early '45 is a dream I someday hope to see, even if it's only as a spiritual successor and not actually including the original characters. While the story and characters were great, this style of gameplay has been totally lost and really needs to come back. Why can't they let us run an AI squad anymore? RIP Brothers in Arms, Socom, Conflict, and older Rainbow Six...

I own BIA Road to Hill 30 and Hells Highway. I love them to death, while my gripe with Hells Highway is, the way they have handled the Health and Squad Systems. I enjoyed the no health regen in RtH30 and the Mortality of your team mates, where, once they are down, they won't come back until the end of the mission, which can be a long one, and that you, had no options for medics or medipacs, which gave you a sense of, 'Should I charge or not. Should I risk sending Hartsock with the rest in and get them killed or, pin the enemy and do it myself.' I love Baker and to see his investment, how he wanted to keep the promise he made to bring the boys back alive, and how they haunted him after their death, especially, the story behind Bakers 1911 which brought death to Risner and Legget, how he kept Leggets secret from the others and how it gnawed at him, until the end of Hells Highway.

There is no Health system in Hell's Highway. Get shot once, you die. The screen turning red is called Threat Effect and can be turned off in the gameplay menu. Die three times in Hill 30 and you have the option to heal everyone and reload.

@@tsfullerton I just more or less used the general explanation from the magazine called Computer Bild Spiele, for that sentence. And we could argue here all day long about that.

You should really play Hell Let Loose. Its like Hells Highway but with real players as teammates and the voice-comms are one of the most important aspects of the game along with the squad-based gameplay. Plus, it has a nice command chain that goes from Commander to Squad Leaders to each individual player class.

One of my favorite games of all time. I really liked the third person cover system too.

Really like the Road to Hill 30 especially the extra content proves that the team did excellent research. To bad the franchise is dead
