When Leona first appears she is sizing up Pantheon through the ring of her shield, her view of the man and what he is there to do is being limited by the trappings of her station as an Aspect. I like that as a bit of storytelling as well. She sees him as an enemy because she is looking at him through what is basically a set of crosshairs. We all know that if Leona would just take the Aspect blinders off for a few minutes, she and Diana would have an apartment and a couple dogs named Equinox and Eclipse by now.

agreed. and that is oddly the issue of the aspects. its clear that moon and sun are supposed to be in unity but they are seperated and broken partially by ideology, and partially by the powers they wield. the aspects nature might even have been twisted by something beyond their control. consider the situation with kayle and morgana, both daughters of an aspect of a sort(likely justice) but both at odds due to their disagreement on how justice should be handled. i wonder if the aspects are in someways being divided and warped from their intended purposes and roles by themselves and the societies that formed around them. at some point i imagine leona and diana will have to stop and realise that something fundimentally is wrong with what is going on. that the solari faith is extremely flawed and is likely causing them to stray from their true path. as we see in the most recent pantheon story, the solari are getting WORSE. their desperation to cling onto power and their accusing of others is likely something leona is not quite aware of due to her blinkered narrow view. she is not a leader of the solari i believe. she is their divine attack dog. their weapon to smite the heretics and the non-believers with impunity. if there is a celestial of the eclipse, or some similar aspect or entity coming, i have a strong feeling that leona and diana might be likely play a part in that and more than likely will need to recognise that something very clearly is deeply wrong within the solari. no doubt some evil high inquisitor or solari Mega Zealot who might be intent on ensuring that leona stays loyal to their cause, and might even be in a dark mirror to leona, and a counterpoint to aphelious. filled with hate, calling for destruction of their enemies, and likely NOT being a support but an adc or seperate lane champ. the sun and moon are meant to be on the same team, which is likely why leona and diana (since you know. they were lovers) were chosen to be the bearers of their respective aspects. however my guess is the intense zealotry and the oppressive dogma of the solari faith is actively sabotaging things and has forced the 2 into conflict. i know that likely riot will do something different, but looking at how the story seems to be going in my mind is leona will post call be trying to figure out what the heck is going on, and the solari will be very unhelpful, so leona will try to go looking for information, and might either stumble on the truth, or the atrocities the solari don't want her to know about. maybe when going to protect a village, some people actively run or sheild themselves from her or flee, confusing leona as to why, but the answer gets explained that the solari have been purging villages of people. leona thinks that must be incorrect, but when she returns to the leaders of her group, they merely thank her for informing them of the village and that they will handle it. cut to later when leona returns to the village only to find it razed to the ground, its people, mostly innocent i might add, incinerated by solari fire or cut down with solari blades. the shock forcing leona to try and find the information for herself, while the architect of the attrocity is hinted at(to set the stage for a future champion). because i don't see anything less than that getting through leona's naivety and making her realise that maybe the solari are not just or rightious or pure, but maybe they are using her as a figurehead, a convenient tool to seek out those who are their enemies and destroying them. it might be a bit of a tropey thing, but league uses a lot of tropes in its world.

I can buy Sejuani saving one of her men, there's a difference between letting the weak die out and saving a warrior who was willing to march into Ursine territory (something that made even Sejuani thin twice) and nearly die to magical bear god lightning. She's a brutal warlord, not a cartoon supervillain.

I honestly genuinely don't like this artstyle. I can see that it is objectively very impressive, and I admire how well it is made, but something about it feels uncanny. The hair of the characters looks a bit too plastic like, so does their entire body actually. Imo it all looks a bit too fake to be real but also too real to be fake in this uncomfortable every time I look at it kind of way

One thing I found interesting about Kai’sa here is that they made her unnaturally pale and the lips and markings very dark, so she looks less like a woman wearing make up and more like a vampire or sickly. Like the Void suit is draining the life from her. It’s a very clever artistic choice, since they can’t do away with that aspect of her design they recontextualize it into something a bit more plausible.

I noticed that as well and I thought it was a very nice change. She looks... unhealthy, very pale, skin isn't in the best shape with visible wrinkles, while there is some "make-up" its dark on pale skin and along with the dark color of the void-mass on her kind of adds to the impression that all the color is being drained out of her.

One thing I really appreciate about the way the female characters are presented in this one (nitpicks about the original designs and the perfect make-up aside) is that they all have different and mature faces (Sejuani having a noticeably stronger jawline for example). Most LoL cinematics have the habit of making them all have these perfectly smooth young girlish faces. In this, however, they actually look like mature women and not, well, young girls. Still conventionally attractive and beautiful, obviously, but it sells them as experienced adults so much better than any other Riot cinematic I've seen. Leona and Sejuani look like they could be anywhere between their early to late 30s; even Kai'Sa has some grit to her features

I love the way Atreus puts down his spear to fight the solari, it shows that he has no quarrels with mortals, only with the gods, he doesn't really want to kill them and so he takes it easier on them, only choosing to pick up his spear when Leona shows up, and he has to fight an aspect.

The problem with Olaf is that he's just a regular human being. Yes, he's effectively immortal on a battlefield because of his prophecy but that doesn't mean he should be able to survive such a chunk of ice falling on his back, that doesn't make sense with his human condition. The fact the ice breaks on him is plot armor, but it's bad plot armor, good plot armor in this case would have been that somehow Olaf doesn't take it or only on a small part of his body like an arm or something, and his berserker rage would allow him to go on regardless.

I think Pantheon's hyper realistic hand scene might also have served to inform you about his character. As a warrior who stands for mankind in his david vs goliath-esque war against divinity and the gods, its important they get across his humanity as much as possible in his design and all his scenes. Making his hand look like the calloused hands of a hard working everyman really gets that idea across.

There are 2 groups of the Ursine. Those who have been taken over by the madness as we see in "Silence for the Damned." But when Voli got reworked they revealed that there is also the group of Shaman's that haven't completely lost themselves to that madness (yet). So these Ursine (also mentioned in Sejuani's most recent story) aren't consumed by madness yet.

I honestly think, the eye liner thing, particularly for Pantheon and the Freljord thing makes... a little sense. Given that snow reflects light so much i have often been given the advice in the mountains to paint eyelids black (not eyeliner but like... the stuff around eyes) so I don't get as much glare from the reflections... not that that is necessarily what is going on in their decision... I think given that almost every character we get a closeup of has that i suppose that they just have that as a design thing >.> Edit: Sidenote on the Pantheon fighting the others... This is probably not the first time that has happened. Given this is Pantheon. Atreus definitely knocked on that door at least 9 times and this is already 20th time, they talked about this 7 times. They know the song and dance at this point :P

Deliberately? If that's the case then she should either drop the shield so it isn't weighing down her shoulder (and thus causing fatigue) or mount the shield on her back so she has protection there. Either way would free up her other hand and thus she'd be able to start two-handing her sword for (arguably) better control and give her opponent fewer openings to attack. Not that I recommend dropping your shield when your opponent is using a spear, which has more range than a sword, but still. If she's not actually planning to use her shield, then why would she bother showing up to combat with it?

Bit late, but the Shuriman statue and it’s village is from the story “The Faceless God,” where sculptors have spent decades sculpting a god they don’t know the face of. The elder, in her dying days, dreams of the face and sketches it for her pupil to sculpt. The pupil eventually goes into the dried lake at night and sees what they believe to be the face to sculpt. The story ends with Void creatures “most likely rek’sai’s brood) killing the sculptors and Rek’Sai slashes the sculpture, leaving the village to be found by Taliyah and Kai’sa. So it isn’t really connected to the new Void champ, but some people theorize that Bel’Veth used the figure of the statue to create her form. No one really knows, though.

It’s fascinating seeing Ornn forging that sword, because he’s using a mix of techniques, both very ancient and more modern. The fact that he melts the metal and pours it into a mold is particularly interesting, as it would mean he’s either working with a low-melting-point metal like bronze (which I doubt) or a massively hot furnace capable of melting steel or Magic Fantasy Metal (tm) without damaging its own internal components.

I highly appreciate the hyper-realism that was used for "The Call". Stylized realism is in my opinion the big-budget style of animation for the fantasy genre, especially for an IP that is about representing power fantasies.

From what I remember, the statue in the desert is not the new void champ, it may be a teaser for a new Darkin champ tho. After Azir's death, many ascended essentially broke off from each other and set up small city states, with themselves as gods. And as we learned from Aatrox, Darkin are corrupted ascended, who were imprisoned in their own weapons due to their war against humanity by the aspect of trickery (now zoe). With that brief and probably incorrect history of the Darkin out of the way, I think it would make sense if a small town out in the middle of the shuriman desert had carved a figure of their ascended/darkin overlord, but I wouldn't understand if it was a void creature.

Really great analysis man! A really nice touch I noticed but haven't seen anyone else notice is that when Leona first smashes into Pantheon in that explosion, you can see that the explosion actually looks like solar filaments, flux ropes, or coronal rain. It's such a nice touch considering Leona is the aspect of the sun. The way the "flame" wraps around her sword looks a lot like solar plasma too, not just "fire". Such amazing attention to detail. I'm a bit of an astromony geek, so I noticed this immediately.

One thing I really like is Atrius’s deep brown eyes, they showcase his humanity, as a dark brown is the natural colour of human eyes, and any other colour would tie him more to the supernatural than anything else, they’re very grounded in comparison to other champions like jinx.

From reading the new Pantheon story, this lore cinematic hits like a fucking truck. Like holy hell, this chad of a man broke due to losing possession of his body for the second time and begins to doubt and he's stuck with the curse of being an ascender(what I'd call him since he aint no aspect anymore) of targon, which Iula just freaking stabs him with all the hurtful words he isn't looking for since he's the one truly beat, broken, lost and forsaken. She reminds him that he took Pylas away from her since he was the one that convinced him to climb, and that she never got to see his corpse at all and curses him for trying to give up after all the things that's happened. He then leaves without speaking with Iula but I think that story's ending connects with why Atreus climbs Targon for this Portal to Targon Prime that the Solari is guarding. He's facing his fate and his real obstacle in one which also coincides with the stuff that truly threaten the whole of Runeterra (the new pantheon story touches upon this) as Atreus recognizes that there have been an abundance of stuff that have been popping up trying to destroy or claim runeterrra where the normal humans have no real power to fight with. I'm not assuming things but The Call's music and how it sings about struggle and about one's calling just makes me wonder if Pantheon is actually going to be a big plot character in the coming lore.

Another thing I really like about this kai sa design is that they actually made her nose just a tiny bit crooked. It does not do much to make her look monstrous but hey, at least she doesn't have that much of a perfect nose anymore

It's interesting (and annoying) how Pantheon is actually using his shield in combat and not leaving himself vulnerable but Leona at 52:40 is doing the exact opposite. Swinging wildly and holding her shield to the side, rather than actually using it to keep her body safe while she swings.

I like how it seems that kaisa shoots around 5 or 6 auto attacks before entering the hole which would mean the shot that hurt Rek'sai would be the attack that detonated Kai'sa's passive

I love that Kai'sa doesn't look perfect in this. She looks paler than normal, her suit while not being much different has pretty deep cuts that look like a purple infection and if you look closely the suit gets a darker and sleeker tone to decrease air resistance at the end like it knows if Rek'sai catches them it's 100% death.

Olaf tanking a literal ice boulder might just be a nod to is supernatural ability to just not die in battle, plus reinforcing the point that he isnt just another goon in the warband. The rays shooting at Pantheon from space reads like ASOL to me. Maybe Targon sees Panth as ssuch a big threat that they deploy their greatest "weapon" against him, or Asol really dislikes Atreus. I think Panth leaping at outer space also suggestss its ASOL

I think it's Zoe, but A-sol makes sense. Zoe seems to be the one who would be a carry shooting from the top of the mountain while Leona distracts Pantheon.

You didn't really talk about it, but I thought the COOLEST transition in this whole cinematic by FAR was the one between Orn quenching the blade in the water and the plume of smoke, and the very very close up on the eye. It was seamless, and the eye in all it's smokey eyeshadowy glory just sort of appears from the smoke as if the smoke created it. So so nice looking.

At the very end there when Ornn turns to the camera, I suspect that's Ornn sort of turning to his next thing to forge, which is supposed to be us. Yadda yadda play league, climb ranked, overcome their own poorly curated community, ect. Which I'm not gonna but it does give ya that little bit of... I'm not how sure to phrase but desire to overcome my own challenges and that's pretty heckin neat.
