Shannon, sorry for the cat comment during the live stream...I was absolutely floored by this news. Years ago, I took a break from hockey because of the heartbreaking track record the Sharks have in the playoffs and when I started watching again this season with my son, I was happy to see a few familiar faces. I was able to tell him stories of the Sharks' "Glory Days" and Hertl quickly became my son's favorite player despite the season we've had. It's gonna be hard to break the news to him. Ironically, tonight at SAP center they are having an event to wine and dine potential season ticket holders for next season. That's gonna be a hard sell for a fan base who just lost their two leading scorers and the player who held this team together while the Couture was out with an unknown injury. I understand the financials behind the trade, but Grier should be ashamed to trade such a legend to a rival team.

@dreamswet8019
@dreamswet8019 2 ай бұрын
@@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants 1 or 2 really good players is indeed going to matter because if you trade them away there's no guarantee you're gonna get someone that's half as good as them let alone be a franchise players like Hertl, Brent Burns, and Joe Pavelski were. I'm also of the opinion that San Jose didn't need a full rebuild more of a retool and for the life of me cannot figure out why they blew up the entire team after making the conference finals. I guess management wanted to watch the team play dead hockey full of many of the same sloppy mistakes week in week out while selling maybe 3k seats. Give it another year or two and there will be people talking about moving the team due to "poor ticketing sales" and your random draft picks aren't gonna count for much then.

Thank you, THG for bringing wisdom to the hockey community. So many people were saying Sharks got heavily fleeced with the Timo Meier trade, and the Erik Karlsson trade and both trades ended up being nice for the Sharks. Sure now, we only have one prospect that is projected as a 3rd line stud (which would have been Hertl position in a couple of years by the time the rebuild is over). It stinks a lot and emotionally shattered as a Sharks fan, but it had to be done, Grier isn't shy to really tear it down even if the cost was that high. Only Couture and Vlasic are left now, and Vlasic is serviceable for now, and Couture.. injuries are bothering him more and more so we'll see Now Sharks hopefully can get Celebrini

like vegas or not, they don't sit on their hands. most teams and fanbases will bellyache about how it's hard to win, and then there's 4-5 teams that do what it takes, in terms of taking risks, to ice a competitive p-off team. this is now VGK's third big move this week.

I don't understand why people are mad he's going to Vegas, who cares the sharks aren't competing for the cup anytime soon. You need cap space especially if we're wanting to flip free agents at the deadline we got a late first round pick and we have a top 6 or top 9 prospect who is doing better then some of are older prospects. And it's not like we will be getting rid of Vlasic. Couture is a hard player to flip with his contract. All in all, I think this is one of the better moves Grier has made.

Help me understand how having cap space helps san jose in the short or even medium term. Theyll need to get to the cap floor. Has anyone ever been succesful depending heavily on free agent signings? @TheHockeyGuy
@TheHockeyGuy 2 ай бұрын
Having cap space is huge. Look what the Coyotes have been able to aquire in terms of futures because they have that cap space. That 6.75 million in savings means they can take on contracts from other teams and charge well for it. It's not about depending heavily on free agent signings. It's about having cap flexibility and they can bid a little higher for certain players to acquire them as need be. Chicago did that in the off season and it seems to have helped prolong Nick Foligno's career. San Jose is going to be bad for a long time. Hertl's contract had to go.
@andrew6815

@@TheHockeyGuy I see what you are saying. I was about to say they would still have cap space regardless but no, they are up against. Vegas doesn’t need another injured player we have enough already. Knights have been playing a whole line of AHL players almost all year. Martinez and Theodore had not been playing their best as of late. Too many turnovers and miss plays that have led to many goals for the opposing teams. I would call up Korczak from Henderson. He is a defenseman that always plays a steady almost error free game consistently, and can score.
