As a life long Petty fan it’s been rough tough to see this cycle year after year. Just when they show momentum something happens thst sets them back. Late 90’s team shows speed and wins 3 races in 4 years, they announce switching to dodge,Pontiac drops support, Loomis leaves, Adam dies, team becomes a back runner. ‘06 Loomis returns, Labonte joins the 43, team shows some speed again. They sell to Boston Ventures to bolster the team. Sponsors leave with noting to replace them and Petty has to merge what left with Gillett to create RPM. Team is fast with Kahne winning two races, and AJ showing speed, Gillett files for bankruptcy and team nearly folds. 2011 Murstein buys out Gillett team begins to show steady improvement with speed on occasions winning with Ambrose 2 times and Almirola. They trim down to one car loose Aric and Smithfield to SHR and become a back marker self sponsored team with a young Bubba Wallace. Maury Gallagher buys team from Murstein rebrands it PettyGMS Erik shows speed all year and wins ad Darlington, Johnson buys in to team in 2024 switch to Royota and here they are running at the back again. I swear that 42 & 43 used up all their luck over their success through the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and early 80’s. I hope playing the long game this time is finally gonna stick and make this team competitive long term.

The biggest issue with LMC is that JGR has a chokehold on a manufacture not a single other team really has. Sure Hendrick can easily make a few calls to cut you down to size but they're not going out of their way to be the dominant team of the manufacture by default they're still competing with Trackhouse and RCR and RCR is still a powerhouse in it's own right because it controls a lot of Chevy team motors especially for the lower series. Ford has no real powerhouse team you can argue you have multiple competing for that spot which is more contested than Chevy and the teams seem to play fairly nice and work together pretty well. Toyota however... anything that exists without paying it's dues to Gibbs exists without JGRs consent and they will force you out of competition before you blink. It's what happened with Furniture Row, MWR well they shot themselves in the foot repeatedly and no other Toyota team was/has been a real threat. If anything it's a bad look on Toyota and I'd hope they either force JGR to be more cooperative with fellow manufacture backed teams or else.

There’s no way they can JHN. He’s about as much the issue as jones is. JHN has shown flashes of speed, just look at Vegas for example. He was fast all day and staid out of trouble, and while his teammates finished 25th and 28th, he came home 9th. Earlier in the season, he wheeled that LMC car to a top 15 in points. He’s fast, and canning him wouldn’t do a thing for them.

The terrible current short-track package aside, I think Martinsville this week has the makings of a classic. None of the drivers who aren't locked in are out of contention. Blaney won this race last year, Byron won the last race at the track, Elliot led the most laps at the last race, Bell is always a contender on flat tracks, Hamlin is historically great at Martinsville, and Larson could just leave everyone in the dust like at Bristol. Throw in the option tire and this could turn into a wild race. I think Larson will win and Bell will take the final playoff spot on points, but it feels like anything could happen here, so I'm excited.

Gragson was smart enough to get the hell out of dodge when he could asking for his release before legacy killed his career. Luke Lambert and Carson Hocevar hit on something when he ran the 42 but they had already signed Nemechek but Luke and Carson have carried that momentum on at spire and will be a real threat next yr. Mike Beam had the 43 running up front and winning darlington. Is Beam still there now with JJ. JJ came in and brought in who he wanted and they really really suck. The cars come off the truck slow and get slower. Their average qualifing spots are 28 and 30th. The 78 car with no help from chevy out runs them when he comes to race 10 times a yr. Why are Kenseth and Trevor there ? Driver coaches really. They need competitive cars not coaching. Jones can drive anything. Legacy needs a complete house cleaning from Wells on down today not tomorrow. Fatback could come out of retirement and lead this team better the first race back ! Wells has no clue and has destroyed everything Beam and Marty built. Time to clean out the friends and hire people who know whats going on !
