It actually kinda bugs me that if Adam doesn't see something in his tests he acts as if it never happened in real life ie. The ship cable wipping people. But all things considered he is pretty humble.

@@Isaac-n1v yea, they didn't use a large enough cable at high enough tensions. to cut people like that you need a really big highly stressed cable, like a tow line from one ship to another. a small cable just can't produce the energy needed.

Which I was totally looking forward to, and it did happen a little bit, but it turned out to be Adam fanboying over Gavin and the Slow Mo Guys. Which was a happy little surprise. Love it.

I like/subscribe/follow "Tested" and love to see the projects Adam takes on in his cave, but Mythbusters absolutely holds a very special place in my heart.

Just for context at 12:07, the producers of Interstellar approached astrophysicists and mathematicians, who provided them with the equations commonly used to explain the functionality of a black hole. This, in turn, was converted to code and fed into the Double Negative Gravitational Renderer, or DNGR, which created a computer simulation of the math. So, the black hole in Interstellar is actually a perfect example of a spinning black hole and the unbelievable effect it has on light and spacetime around it. They published a study about the process they used, too, and it's a great read.

I just did the math. 171 m/s. Put the camera on a drone and film this with a super bright laser over a long path. Foggy early morning in a giant field. The speed of light captured.

Also you could send the laser pulse into a coil of optical fiber that is somewhat stretched across the frame, to slow it's propagation across the frame substantially, both due to coiling and due to glass refractive index. Due to the bends in the fiber some light would escape and you could observe the propagation. Coil a kilometer or two of wire and you could get 10-20 frames of light moving across the frame (inside the coil) at 1.75 megafps. Maybe that's what he was trying to do

My all time favorite moment from Mythbusters was the B team testing the “sawdust cannon” which they then ramped up to “non-dairy coffee creamer cannon” After the MASSIVE fireball, Tori turned back and shouted “did we get that on high speed?” Followed by one of the coolest moments EVER, seeing that massive ball of flame erupt in glorious slow motion. There were a lot of moments like that on MB, and Gavin, Dan and their team have created several more

I remember Adam giving a talk for us at New Mexico Tech after they filmed some sequences at EMRTC, and showing “the slap” high speed. Mythbusters was a big influence on a lot of us engineers. Used to watch episodes in the dorm common room.

20:14 I know it can't happen since Mythbusters ended, but I'd love to see Killer Cable revisited. Mooring cables are more elastic and have a much higher breaking strength than the ones you used. Maybe you can do another collab with Slowmo Guys to do this

Yeah, that would be very interesting. There have also been a few accidents where large amounts of people (hundreds to thousands) played tug of war where the rope snapped. Some people lost limbs, fingers and a small few even died, but I don't think directly from the rope rebounding.

Yeah 3/8 cable is scary but not very large compared to the lines ships use. Didn't the cutty sark have like 1in and 1 1/2 lines for mooring? The snapback for mooring lines has cut decks on container ships!
