The band U2 is registered at a PO box in Amsterdam, this way the band members do not have to pay taxes in Ireland nor in the Netherlands. Bono, their lead singer, claims he is solving world poverty by letting you give money to charity. This is how the scam works and all those rich people do it: they let you pay and they take credit for it.

As a musician, I am disappointed with the tax evasion of very rich musicians for decades. The Beatles avoided paying taxes in the UK, especially George Harrison who wrote a song about it. Mick Jagger and Co. also skipped out of the country to avoid taxes. Bonhead.. uh, Bono.. I'm sure there are plenty more, but the sad thing is Harrison & Bono made a big deal about helping the poor. It is one of the differences between neoliberals and progressives, and ironically one of the 'hypocrisies' the trolls lob at progressives, mistking us for neoliberals.

@@GeorgePiazza Well said. Especially growing up in the UK/Ireland where everyone chipped in so these guys could have free health care, education and a social safety net. And when they made it and it was time to do something in return they shipped their fortune overseas so they would not have to pay anything. No gratitude.

@sfar1 Hi sfar1 You mean you can still buy stuff on Amazon? Have you seen it lately? Primes are gone. Apparently they are shifting from the Warehouse Depot Model to just farming out orders to Small Vendors, but the Search and Display Algorithms don't work. The Vendors complain that searches pop up with "This Item is Not Presently Carried" when they registered having 3 gross 2 days ago. Before, the Search would go to Amazon Warehouse Items with Prime Best Sellers, but now you get endless of pages of crap that Almost Fits what you were searching for. It can take hours to sort through the crap. Then you have situations where you want to buy something and 50 Sellers pop up for the same item. So, each has a different price and each has a different rating. Okay, Who the Hell Gets Your Order? I just wanted a jar of Pills. I didn't want to be God! Yeah, Amazon has gone down the tube. I actually bought some crap from Friggin Walmart.

jb9bat100 O Have been attending Marianne’s lectures for 7 years. Can confirm everything you hear her say in interviews and debates has been consistent with her books and her lectures over the years. Reparations, sickness care instead of health care, problems cannot be solved by those who caused it, you have to clear up the past before moving forward, etc. She’s a spiritual marvel of deep truth.

I think the subtle difference is that, actually, Anand is saying yes, we can expect some of the same people who caused the problem to fix the problem (though obviously not all of them), many of them do mean well. The problem is, you can't use the same systems that created the forces that create the problem, to solve the problem. If you try to expand the system to deal with the problem, you will only create more of the problem. Almost like a economic/social/political version of the second law of thermodynamics.

They've been weakened since the 80s, but even moreso during the Clinton era and Bush administration. Bernie has an actual agenda against Wall Street which will reinstate Glass-Steagall, bring back regulations, close loopholes, and add a speculations tax. He already has a "Too Big to Fail" Act. He cast the only *NO* vote against the Riegle-Neal Act, which sadly was what ultimately ushered in the era of giant national banks. He himself interrogated Greenspan over concerns about the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, which was designed to repeal Glass-Steagall & allow large mergers between investment banks, commercial banks & insurance together. Bernie pointed out that their failure would lead to an expensive bailout, which could cripple our economy. His prediction was correct. And it's not the 1st time he's predicted catastrophes. Everything from the false-premise Iraq War, ISIS, Patriot Act scandal, Panama Papers tax evasion scandal, SSI/Medicare/Medicaid cuts, etc. His foresight is uncanny. #Bernie2020 #BernTheEstablishment

I enjoyed the hill today. I agree and have lived in what this author has spoke about. I worked for the state just barely making it month to month. My work kept people "safe" and kept "criminals" off the streets. I was complacent with mediocre because of the struggles that I have been through. That was until I figured out how this agency was really hurting my community rather than helping. Once I confronted and spoke out I was fired evicted forced to move out of my home city that I had lived in my entire life. All during this "unprecedented" time. My dream is not for materials and vain self worth. I aspire for true purpose and to serve my faith by leaving everything I encounter better than when I found it. I was not in the realm of thinking government was where we needed to change. I now understand that is really the only way. Flooding the government with good citizens. People who understand what we have to lose or gain. For the love of all that is good. We need to seriously hold the profit politicians accountable for what I believe they are knowing working against the people. Citizens have been in my belief under represented, under educated, mistreated, and disrespected. We the people are not stupid. We see what is happening. I look at these wealthiest citizens and I pitty them for their vain egos. Thats a sad life to live. The funny part is they literally are no better the the terribly hungry, dirty, hurt, and homeless man on every corner I see here in wealthy America.

To be clear, we don't necessarily need the government to solve problems in general. In some specific cases, it's absolutely necessary, while in other cases it actually is counterproductive. Where I agree is that we cannot trust people who just want to make money to solve everything. We need to stop looking at billionaires as heroes and approach them with at least a healthy skepticism, but frankly, I think hoarding that much wealth for the sake of one person's ego and comfort is a very serious problem in itself, to say the least.

Interesting. I didn't realize there wasn't a narrative, an active plan to "fix" the existing problem. That's where Nick Hanauer has been playing a role. That's where Stephanie Kelton is playing a role. That's where Kate Raworth and Mariana Mazucato are playing a role. Anand pulled out the ultra huge highlighter marker so we can see this and have a shot at naming the problem.

Great piece. Thanks. The American dream is the nightmare. We're conditioned to look outside the Self for happiness through nouns: people, places and things. These things will NEVER satisfy. Things are temporary. What is real is That which is unchanging. Follow the "I" thought back into the Heart Centre. The peace we are looking for is closer than the breath. And It remains Here, Now. If you want to change the world, stop believing the incessant thoughts that appear. Thoughts aren't Beingness. They're clouds passing in a boundless, sun drenched sky believed to be real, true and "mine". My thoughts, my body, my mind...me, me, me... I, I, I... Who IS I? Untangle that mystery... and all is well.

Just asking. Can anyone note a single government program that delivers high quality and under budget? Can anyone point to a single service the government provides that is convenient, well run and reliable? Is there any part of government free of corruption? And most importantly, when one is screwed by the government, is there any recourse to hold them accountable? If one answered no to all the above, who is to say that we need more government interference in our lives.

This is why I support Andrew Yang’s plan for Human Centered Capitalism. He proposes to change corporate incentives to align with values that are good for human flourishing- healthcare, the environment, worker’s rights, child success rates, retiring with dignity, etc. Unless we change the incentives, CEOs are forced to make decisions that only effect the company’s bottom line regardless of how that affects anything else. He has stated that many of these billion dollar companies would ‘take a haircut’ for the greater good, and it would actually help them if the incentives were in place to allow for it.

Just me, or does Krystal look entirely different today? Still beautiful as always, but I hardly recognised her!

People need to think critically. This should have been obvious to most people back in the 1980s, but it wasnt. Far from it. Most were happy to lick the boots that stomped them. Yes, actually _happy_ to do it. Infuriating that ppl took so long to figure this obvious shit out, when it may be too late. Hope not. Glad, anyway, that most (I think/hope) now get it, at long fucking last.
