Have you tried using the subculture and prism palettes together? They work so well together bc for almost every colored shimmer in one palette, there Is a similar colored matte shade in the other palette to use in the crease

I absolutely love this palette! I’ve used every color in it. I usually have to pull in lighter transition shades, but that’s easy since nearly every palette I own has them in spades. The glitter/ shimmer shades go on beautifully with a glitter glue first and a flat “concealer” brush. And sphere is gorgeous to blend out crease colors, both warm and cool shades. But blending isn’t exactly the right word. It’s more of a light aura of color around the already blended crease shades. And I agree that dimension and throne are the stand-outs.

SAME! I was the same way with Subculture. I bought that one just as like a "challenge accepted" type of moment and I did SO many looks with it. It's probably one of my most used palettes. I passed on the ABH Mario and regretted it ever since. I really think that at this point I should just buy them because chances are I'm going to love it in person!

I played with it too, but only really loved like four of the colors so I just bought dupes. I had dupes that performed better for the other colors. It's a unique batch of colors. I find prism and subculture very inspiring the way they are set up though.

I don't often make comments, but i wanted to give you a tip about lighting (especially for the demo). If you turn on the 'zebra lines' in your camera you'll be able to see the hot spots of your lighting easily. Then you can use a friend or one of your kids to sit in to see if the lighting is balanced. The lighting was so bright and close to you in the demo it interferes with being able to accurately see what you're doing.

I got the prism palette and I LOVE it! I have no idea why lucid and osiris are showing up like that on you, I have a deeper skintone (NC 42-44) and they all finger swatch beautifully on me...

As an artist,I enjoy how I really have to think of color combos with this palette.I only use my finger and the brush that came with this palette(finger/flat side for applying and fluffy side for blending)and have been happy with the quality and its versatility. 😊 This palette actually got me out of my artist's block because of how much I enjoyed the looks I've made with this 😂

I disagree about the shadow quality. All the shimmers (including lucid) apply well for me when I use my finger. I've used lucid in the inner corner without a base and with a dry finger and it came out great (I went for a slytherin look with throne on the outer corner, lucid in the inner, blended the two in the middle and I loved it). In addition, I see so many eye looks when I see this palette. I have so many ideas of what I want to do that it gets me to try different and bold looks. I will agree about osiris and it was disappointing. I haven't given up on it yet though!

I usually agree with Jen too but she was a bit off here. But we have to remember she is not a makeup artist or super good at eyeshadows. She is very mediocre average at eyeshadow application. But that can be helpful in viewers knowing they might have the same limitations as Jen.

I think Jen got a dud, my Prism performs flawless. Her palette swatched nothing like mine. All of the foiled/shimmers in this palette are Amazing and easy to work with. I believe she based her review off the palette she has, but I also believe her palette isn’t the same quality as many others.
@elisabethmiller86547 жыл бұрын
I am enjoying this palette. I kind of like the fact that the really warm shimmers aren’t extremely intense/metallic. It makes them more wearable for me. I love the mattes except the black but I don’t even use black eyeshadow. Lucid only works decently with a finger, but that’s a dud for me too. Surprisingly I’m loving sphere kind of as a transition with the orange matte.

I've used Sphere several ways. Today I'm wearing Sphinx all over the lid with Saturn in the crease focusing on the outer portion. I then used Sphere in the inner crease and inner corner, but mixed it with Lucid in the inner corner. It sounds dramatic, but actually came out warm/neutral. I've also used it as an inner corner and kind of a lower lashline liner with Throne in the inner and outer thirds and Osiris in the middle and smoking out the bottom lashline. I used Lure as my transition/crease shade for that look. I've seen several looks using Sphere in the inner corner and Dimension over the lid that look really nice. You could use it instead of Unity in the look you did before you topped it with the shimmer shades. You could use it in the inner corner and a little higher almost near the brow bone with Unity on the lid and Eden/Saturn in the outer corner/crease. I could also see it all over the lid (over a base) with Saturn/Eden in the crease and Parallel in the outer corner. For a really dramatic look you could do Sphere over the lid fading into Obsidian. Kathleenlights did a nice look layering it over Throne to create a lighter green. Mostly inner corner, lower lashline liner, and in the crease mixed with the pinky orangey shades.

I think the brands are more concerned about a gorgeous swatch, rather than beautiful eye application. Even the cheapest shimmer shades will usually swatch beautifully, but then won't pick up in a brush. Get with it, makeup brands... We know swatches don't tell half the story.
@thejentaur28217 жыл бұрын
HalfLeft Dawn I actually really like the palette, but you have an EXCELLENT point 👏 More consideration about usability and shade placement would be an idea for the companies to concentrate on as the majority of their customers are 'normal' users, rather than makeup artists 😸💕

*HOW TO USE SPHERE* Hey Jen, I love your channel! I have the palette and I personally love it! When I bought the palette there was an Anastasia Rep with a Prism GET THE LOOK booklet, and it shows how to use some of the shades, including Sphere. I’ll leave the “GET THE LOOK” Instructions below: •Use LURE to contour the crease. •Define the outer crease with SATURN. •Apply SPHERE to inner lid and inner lower lash line. •Apply DIMENSION to the center of the lid. •Define outer crease and lower lash line with OBSIDIAN. •Highlight brow bone and inner corner with LUCID. •Apply liner. *HOPE THIS HELPS!*

I'm going to pause and take a second to nerd out here. Because a) I feel its relevant, and b) that this IS the space to nerd out. :) From wikipedia: "In optics, a prism is a transparent optical element with flat, polished surfaces that refract light. " "In geometry, a prism is a polyhedron comprising an n-sided polygonal base, a second base which is a translated copy (rigidly moved without rotation) of the first, and n other faces (necessarily all parallelograms) joining corresponding sides of the two bases." So I can see why one might be disappointed in the non-rainbow color range, but my nerdy STEM self so appreciates the homage to math with names like parallel, unity, and dimension. (I think Stephanie Nicole mentioned this too)
@jenluv7 жыл бұрын
Haha! Thanks for this! I get it with the names, but did you see anything in the palette shades that said "prism" to you? Gurl....just give me some rainbow! Haha!

I just bought this palette yesterday and it's great! I actually had this video sitting in my to watch list but forgot about it until today. I am so glad I watched your review after I bought it because I wouldn't have otherwise. I was so shocked at how bad the shadows looked in your swatches! I immediately pulled mine out to re-swatch and breathed a sigh of relief when it all turned out beautiful. Tip: use the flat side of the double ended brush it came with to apply the shimmer shades. Question: why does everyone who does brush swatches swatch in a downwards motion? No one applies eye shadows that way. Don't people blend their shadows left and right? Am I the only one who finds it odd that people are brush swatching like they're finger swatches?

I didn't think I would like Sphere or use it at all and I decided in a moment of inspiration to try to make an editorial look with it and I would up making a pretty halo eye because I used Unity on the lid as a base, Sphere in the crease and then added Eden to that and I LOVED the way it transformed the color! I was surprised, it felt like it changed the color a bit and was very flattering on me. I myself really enjoy the brush it came with, it blends my crease beautifully and the shader brush helps me pack color onto my lids. The shimmers work perfectly for me when I wet my brush, it fades a tiny bit but that's because I don't have setting spray anymore. Soon I'm going to mix this palette with my others, but I just got it November 10th and I like to keep my new makeup separate so I can properly judge it.

It seems like brands are coming out with palettes meant for artists rather than the makeup enthusiast. That's not a bad thing, but maybe they could include some packaging or even online content geared toward those of us who lack the artistic instinct. Do a "color theory spotlight" where they create a more complex look and show us *why* it works. Help us learn to use the whole palette, not just copy a look. Honestly, I'd love to see that kind of thing from any brand!

@kctrash32086 жыл бұрын
I just bought this the other day because the color scheme is very unique to my collection and I've always wanted to try an ABH palette, but couldn't justify it for the pricing. It was on sale at Sephora and I finally picked it up, and I kind of feel the opposite about it. I apply all lid colors with my finger because I can't be bothered with brushes (unless its a shade that could really use a wet brush application) unless it's for the crease. The shimmers (except pyramid, which was disappointing) went on really well using just my fingertips, but I had a bigger problem with the matte shadows. It seems like they won't blend unless I set my primer with an eyeshadow, but alternatively, I don't think the shimmers stick when I do that. It's kind of weird, but I think I can work with them with practice. Nice review as always :) I like seeing new perspectives on how to use products!

I was on the fence as to if I ‘needed’ this palette.. this morning I watched Rawbeautykristi’s review and thought I could recreate her look with my Saint/Sinner... I own Subculture and after seeing you pull out the unique shades from prism I realized I could live without them or I had something similar already. Thanks for saving my $$$ !
@jmckay3317 жыл бұрын
I have made it work so far. No issues. I use base and Wayne goss brushes which are natural hair and super soft. I used the ABH concealbrush for the shimmer and did use fix+ in order to actually get it to work. It isn’t as creamy as the LIla shimmers which apply without fix+. I have only used the one shimmer so far so cannot speak to all of them yet. But the mattes have blended well and didn’t look patchy. But then again I like the subculture palette too. So if you like the subculture you will like this one. if you didn’t like subculture; while this one is better, I have a feeling you won’t like prism either.

I keep saying I dislike this palette, and I went back to Ulta on Sunday and swatched it again. I've done this a few times since returning it because the colors are just so eye-catching. Then, I did some side by side swatches with the Lorac Mega Pro 4 palette on my arm, even though the colors are different. Then I wiped them off, and Lorac did WAY better with the wipe test. The Prism colors were all gone before the Lorac ones. That confirmed that I made the right decision returning this palette.

i said the same thing on rawbeautykristis video but i think it bears repeating here- for me, the mattes are on par with the mattes in modern renaissance and master by mario (the only other abh palettes i own). in my opinion, the shimmer shades are meant to be used as “toppers” that was my intention when i bought the palette and im so in love with it and beyond happy with its performance. the only shade i’m not 10/10 happy with is lucid, but it can easily be fixed with some setting spray. using the shimmer shades with a flat brush or just dabbing it on the lid with your finger. overall this is an amazing palette for me and i feel as though the intention with this palette was to use the shimmers as “toppers”

With the amount of eye shadows out there right now especially brands like colorpop and bh cosmetics who have palettes for under $20 its hard for me to justify paying $42 for a palette that i know im going to have to work at. Im going to try the shimmers with nyx glitter primer in the next few days cause that really helped with other low performing shimmers in the past.

I love the color combo in the ABH Prism palette! The colors inspire me to do different looks. I agree the mattes in this palette are better than the shimmers tho.

the shimmers only work with a finger I find, And then I intensify with a top layer using a flat brush and setting spray

i agree, Jen. I got this palette because I was excited but i just didn't get it either. I tried a few looks and just realized that it didn't inspire me - I ended up returning it.

Also I've had no problems with the shimmer shades except lucid and I use sigma e55 and I believe e57 or 56 (the thin one)

I've seen people use Sphere on the lower lash line. Looks amazing.

I love my prism palette. I don't know why people are having such a hard time trying to figure out looks with it. I have been using it every time I put makeup on because I have so many ideas. My only complaint is that I notice the mattes fade on my eyelids at the end of the day because my lids are very oily. I have this problem with a lot of eyeshadows. I am going to try it with the Nars eye primer that I just purchased off sephora. Hopefully it will help make them last longer.

I haven’t been drawn to the palette like i was subculture. Thanks for comparing them! I thought they looks similar

I agree!! I got this and it's ok. I can definitely relate to you when creating a look and you're like 😦 ugh what am I going to do here?? I tried out different shadow primers and I used UD potion primer and Makeup Revolution's Aqua seal and the aqua seal seemed to work a lot better for me. Some shadows worked better on top of others and instead of wetting my brush to get the metallics shadows to stick, I used more aqua seal primer before applying the metallic with my fingers. I really loved the turn out from wetting a bullet crease brush with Obsidian, Osiris, and Throne.

Love that you compared it to Subculture. I have Subculture and I’m so happy I passed on Prism because they are incredibly similar palettes. Throne is definitely calling my name but $42 for one color in a palette is too much or me.

Thanks for your review. So far I have avoided all of the ABH eye shadow palettes, and do not regret it at all. None of them seem to be my style.

Jen you always do the best reviews . Just so much thought. I can't afford to buy any abh pallets right now ,but I'd love to try the modern Renaissance . I just may have to bite the bullet and get it.. I think I'll be sipping the latest 2 they just don't do it or me. Especially if shop hush has dupes that are so much more affordable. Thank you for putting in so much effort into each of your videos.

Thanks for the great info, Jen! I think I am going to pass on this one, and yes it was you who swayed me as I was going to pick it up this week during all the sales. What did it for me was when you said that you love shimmer shadows and that they just weren't working in this palette. I am totally a shimmer girl as well, and I don't want to have to go to all that effort to get the color payoff, especially in a palette this expensive. Honestly, I have shimmer shades in Makeup Revolution palettes that are great and easy to use, and don't even get me started on Makeup Geeks shadows. For $42, considering the pan size, the shadows should be amazing across the board and something I can use even if I am in a hurry without worrying about leaving myself extra time just to get the shadows to work.

I"ve had luck with Lucid as an inner corner highlight and brow bow highlight with a pencil smudger brush but it did need to be wet to get the best color payoff. I have played with this palette for about a week and have been enjoying it so much, but I like doing smokey and sultry looks all the damn time. It has some color combos in it that can create a really fire warm toned look too. Kind of amazing at halo style looks.

But I have no GD idea what to use sphere for. It's probably going to be used on the bottom lashes for an accent color if I'm being real honest.

I absolutely love this palette. I did not buy Subculture because it reminded me of a 70's color scheme and it turned me off. However, Prism is pops out, is different and applies beautiful. I haven't had any issues with any shade, so it may just be technique, like with subculture if you go heavy handed. I think these shimmers apply a lot like MR palette. I always apply with fingers and fix plus. Never a brush, but that's my preference.

One of the reasons why I️ subscribed to your channel is because we have similar coloring and thought I️ would be able to figure out what might work on me too. I️ LOVE your reviews. You can’t be much more thorough than that! I’m new again to this makeup thing... I️ actually really liked this look on you and I️ find it to be very wearable. I️ just used the prism palette for the first time this morning (risky as I️ was getting ready for work) I️ agree with you about the matte shades. I️ don’t mind the shimmer because I️ don’t like a lot of sparkle. I’m still “eh” about this palette though.

I actually like applying the shimmer shades from the PRISM palette with a sponge tip applicator on top of a glitter glue ( I always add glitter glue to my eyelids to prevent creasing). The formula of those shimmers is not meant to be applied wet.

Definitely keep doing the tutorials in your reviews. Swatches are great and are helpful, but seeing the product used where and how it’s supposed to be used is so much more useful when deciding if I’m going to purchase. Also, if at least half of the shades in a palette are subpar, then I pass. The Prism palette just doesn’t have the wow factor for me.
