I have been using San Ou chuck with a diameter of 100 mm for many years and I am satisfied with its quality.
Now I have acquired a new 80 mm San Ou cartridge from the same company. I have never used it yet.
At the adapter flange, I pierced the belt and tightly installed the cartridge on this adapter flange.
I decided to check the runout of the cartridge.
And an unpleasant phenomenon was discovered. When fixing parts of different diameters, the maximum runout was on opposite sides of the chuck.
For example, when fixing a part with a diameter of 10 mm, the maximum runout was noted with a marker on this side of the cartridge, and for a part with a diameter of 16 mm, the maximum runout was obtained from the opposite side of the cartridge.
Therefore, the runout of the chuck cannot be eliminated by boring its jaws.
That is, if you reduce the runout for a part with a diameter of 10 mm, then the runout of a part with a diameter of 16 mm will increase even more compared to the original one.
This is probably due to inaccuracy in the manufacture of the spiral disk or cams.
It is no longer possible to fix this, and you have to come to terms with it.
My advice is to check the runout on different diameters before deciding to bore the cams. If all the beats are on one side of the chuck, then boring makes sense.
When fastened with straight cams, the runout turned out to be from 2 to 5 acres for parts of different diameters.
When fastening with reverse cams, I measured a beat of up to 3 dozen.
