On a drilling machine, the drill chuck had a very large radial runout, depending on the position of the chuck on the spindle, from 0.17 to 0.30 mm. Set the chuck to the lowest beat position. Marked on the cartridge with a marker the position of the maximum runout. Opposite this mark is the cam, which needs to be modified, remove the metal in order to reduce this beating.
I removed the chuck and checked the runout of the spindle taper seat. Runout is less than 0.05 mm. It's good.
So it's the cams. I made a mandrel from a water pipe for disassembling the cartridge, for unpressing. I also use it for pressing. I press it and press it through an aluminum drift, in which the drilling is made, so as not to wrinkle the edges of the hole in the chuck.
The chuck disassembled and removed some metal from the cam on the opposite side, where the runout is greatest.
Got a beat of 0.1 mm, that's a lot. I disassembled the cartridge again, modified it, got 0.08 mm. I repeated the disassembly and revision two more times. Got a runout of 0.03 mm and finally achieved a runout of 0.015 mm.
I decided to check the runout at a distance of about 50 mm from the chuck, because this is usually the length of the drills for such a chuck. It turned out 0.04 mm. I think this is good.
This is how you can reduce the runout of the drill chuck by gradually modifying the cam.
