In this sequence from the writer and director Alex Garland’s latest film, “Civil War,” about a modern-day conflict that has broken out in America, journalists making their way to Washington, D.C., stumble across a field set up with Christmas decorations. But the situation couldn’t be less festive. A sniper is set up in a house on a hill above the field. And men in uniform are trying to take the sniper down.
Discussing the scene and its surrealist imagery in his narration, Garland said that in scouting locations, he and his crew came across decorations that were intact more or less as you see them in the film. He said they initially belonged to “a guy who’d put on a winter wonderland festival. People had not dug his winter wonderland festival and he’d gone bankrupt. And he decided just to leave everything just strewn around on a farmer’s field.”
Garland’s aim for the sequence, he said, was to show that “when things get extreme, the reasons why things got extreme no longer become relevant. And the knife edge of the problem is all that really remains relevant.”

These shoot-out sound effects reminded me of another GREAT movie with amazing sound effects from gun-fire....the best cops and robbers bank-heist movie "HEAT" starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. That shootout in Downtown Los Angeles with gunfire echoing off the buildings was intense. Seeing CIVIL WAR in IMAX reminded me of HEAT.

Dems already chant “☠️,,,” YT will erase comments with facts. They will leave out. Dems know terrorists are coming across the border flown to sanctuary states by JB. That will make a huge difference. Why it will 🇺🇸 & Dems. TX would never join up with CA. Dems have Stockholm syndrome. “We deserve to drink the Kool/Aide” they don’t want peace. If people are just gonna wait till they’re told it will be too late. Dems openly hate 🇺🇸. The Blk communities Dems flood with illegals. Will greatly effect. It will be forced. You take away half the country’s rights to vote. By pulling from ballots, arresting political opponents, weaponized FBI/DOJ. It’s defending against fascism & the collapse of the country.

As a photographer, I absolutely loved the stills used in this movie. I loved the cinematography. I loved how the sound played into each scene so well. It was just incredibly well done. As a gun owner, I deeply appreciated that the AR-15/M-4 shots were full volume. A lot of people just don't understand how loud they are. They also don't understand that every gun does not sound the same. The best part of the movie was that the politics didn't matter. You could decide if the good guys, the bad guys, or nobody really won -- or if it was just simply irrelevant. The whole meaning of the movie is really found in Jessie's story and that made the whole movie worth watching. I can't wait to watch it again after it hits the streams. I'll probably buy the movie.

Just a generic gunshot sound effect. Not even the real rifles muzzle report.
@Southlander1000
@Southlander1000 12 күн бұрын
@@hellcatdave1 That's basically true of all movies, but unlike many movies, they didn't use the same sample for everything. The M2HB sounds VERY different from the M4, etc. In many movies, you can almost talk over gunfire, which simply isn't happening in real life, you absolutely have to yell and that was conveyed in the volume of the SFX. No, it wasn't perfect, but it was much better than most.

Something I love about the movie is using the Boogaloo movement’s attire and demeanor to depict Loyalist Forces. The Western Forces have a more militant attire which seems more “American” even though they are technically the rebellion in the movie. It really makes you as a viewer get confused over which side you’re “supposed to support”. Which only benefits (one of) the point(s) of the movie: the good guys are the victors, regardless of what their cause is

Watched the movie in cinema yesterday. Unfortunately, it does not feel like an anti-war movie. Yes, the movie shows atrocities of war, but for most of these scenes the viewer had no time to connect to the victims. Most of the times, the movie feels like an action flick that fails to portray how devastating civil war would be to America.

Bit of a weird subject for this series, no? At least this scene is - Garland doesn't seem to have anything to say about it. He didn't even write the symbology into the script - it was happenstance. This feels like a sponsored bit.

Not everything has to be deeper than what it is. This is all about uneasy alliances, unknown actors in armed conflicts with dubious intentions. The soldiers they meet are nondescript beyond the fatigues, who are they? Who is their unit fighting for? Who is the guy shooting at them and why? Nobody knows. The larger factions such as the “WF” and the “FA” don’t seem to be in direct conflict but smaller splintered factions within their territories do. This scene perfectly encapsulates the fog of war.

Yeah, and Garland is a bit of hack. Number one, he’s British. The fact that he is and making a movie about an American civil war irks me somehow. Ex-Machina was a good movie, but Annihilation was just god awful. Think I’ll skip seeing this in the theater and wait for it on streaming.

About 30 years ago 100 soldiers parachuted out of a plane over my car in the desert. We were captured and detained. I just want to also point out that my situation was heightened by six different languages being shouted in fear and anger at the same time. The powerpoint is mightier than the sword.
