It’s definitely a good idea to have a few of any gun you shoot in uspsa, but if you’re only going to have 1 open gun, Atlas is a great choice. Their customer service is on point, your gun isn’t going to sit on a bench for weeks, they’ll have you back on the range as quickly as possible. I’ve got 2 open customs and a Titan from them with nothing but good things to say

Yea man, all open guns are $6,000 to $9500 blocks of total junk. That’s why no builders will build them anymore. They can’t make any money off open guns. The open divisions have always had less competitor than single-stack at level 2 and higher USPSA majors. Open has never done well in IPSC competitions either. I understand why, you can’t ever get one to run for a 6 stage local match much less 10 to 30 stage, 5 day level 4 or 5 match. There’re just a waste of money.

@TheHumbleMarksman2 жыл бұрын
The gun was relatively low mileage (~7k) when I reviewed if. This guy I borrowed it from didn’t have issues last year with his guns - but he was the only chaos shooter locally who didn’t - slides and comps all round
@CRA6772 жыл бұрын
@@TheHumbleMarksman It's unfortunate because my understanding is that their limited guns are very good. I had an engineer look at the comps, and he indicated that the reason they are cracking is because Atlas didn't break (round over) the edges around the circumference of the two vertical ports. This concentrates the force to a small area. I switched to Binary 3-port comps, and haven't had an issue since. After cracking a slide, I had one of my guns re-barreled to 38SC. Yes, the brass is more expensive, and finding all of it after a training session/match is a pain. However, 38SC runs at much lower pressures, which should increase the longevity of the gun. I figure that the cost of brass is more than made up in the cost and hassle of repairing guns. Heck, each Atlas comp cost me $465 alone.
@Johnsormani Жыл бұрын
I’ve been shooting open with 38 super since 92 . Still love it . A good gun is also a longtime investment. I shoot my current open gun since 25 years. You might need a new barrel or a slide or upgrade your optics but you can get a lot of mileage out of a well made open gun

@funkla653 жыл бұрын
I would've assumed this was a game strictly for reloaders. I have a 38 Super buried somewhere in my safe, and I remember you had to really step on the gas to get the Super's reputed velocity. Basically, small rifle primers and book max = start. I'm surprised an ammo manufacturer is willing to sign their name to that sort of thing.
@theblade1103 жыл бұрын
Everyone reloads for their open guns. Also Open shooters reload way past the max of any reloading guide.
@stevetierney26302 жыл бұрын
It's funny that you think that the re directing of the gas from the comp ports upwards, is the major reason that a decent comp works in reducing recoil. With a well designed comp, the majority of the braking effect, comes from the volume of high pressure gas hitting/pushing against the baffle plates. The gasses need to be vented somewhere and the upward direction, is obviously beneficial in creating a certain level of "Thrust" effect. But this is only a by-product of the venting process.

9 Major uses standard 9x19mm cases, just simply loaded way beyond SAAMI specifications or even +P and +P+ loads. It's slightly hotter than most factory .357 Sig ammo. It's really not suggested for guns not specifically built to take it. Since 9 Major is used only in a very small niche, I highly doubt any of the major manufacturers will be building any guns specifically for it soon, especially considering the fact that it isn't loaded to any institutionally recognized standard.
