Golden rule to Ascending or descending....three-points of contact. I spent 17 years of my life in Construction / rough carpentry / days before ANYONE thought of wearing safety harnesses. I'm watching you step on to the little platform...and relying on just that strap and buckle. Gives me the heebie jeebies, and I'm not afraid of heights. With that said....very well done. Gives me more to consider

So, I admit ignorance here, but I see a lot of kits have a lineman’s rope and a climbing rope. I see you just using a lineman’s rope. Are there specific circumstances to use a climbing rope and some circumstances where you wouldn’t need one? Or does it just depend on confidence?
@averagejackarchery
@averagejackarchery 3 жыл бұрын
Are you referring to a lineman's and a tether? The former is only used for going up and down, the latter is once you're on stand/platform to remain attached to the tree.
@jeffthebean1

I use an aider on my bottom stick. I use 4, 30 inch sticks. The top of my first stick ends up being about 70". Add 90 inches for 3 more sticks with 18 inches in between (54). Total = around 18 feet. I'm just not comfortable using the aider between each one just to keep from hauling 5 more pounds in the woods. Also, on my 3rd & 4th sticks I have a piece of orange 550 cord on them and leave them on the ground and pull them up when I need them. Keeps me from clanging metal against each other.

Well done - The only thing I do different is I tend to tether in prior to stepping on the platform!

A guy just posted on saddle hunter Facebook yesterday. He stepped onto the platform without tethering to the tree. The strap came off the versa button and he fell and impelled the climbing stick into his leg about 3”. Had to take a chopper ride to the hospital.

He’s got his lineman’s belt on!!!!
@TheAllankuz
@TheAllankuz 4 жыл бұрын
@@drewcollins77 Yep - that’s pretty obvious, what’s also a truth is majority of accidents happen stepping on and off stands or platforms. Considering one will tie into the tether once on the platform, taking the extra precaution of hooking in prior to stepping onto a platform is only an extra safety step that you can choose to do or not. A linesmen belt is a guarantee we don’t hit the ground, it does not assure we will be injury free in case of a fall, slip or accident.
@evanwhitaker6696
@evanwhitaker6696 4 жыл бұрын
@@drewcollins77 yes he has a lineman belt on but if the worst happens while stepping on the platform the tether will arrest his fall much more efficiently than the belt. You may slide down the tree a bit and who knows what happens from there. But hey, some people still don’t use harnesses so to each their own.

I like to run my predator platform at the same height as my top step that way I can use that top step if I need to. It also helps me to get to my pack since I keep it on the opposite side of the tree. Great video, keep them coming.

i have 4 Hawk helium mini's with a 2 step aider on my bottom stick. i'm 5'6 250lbs and I struggle to get up the tree using the aiders. I know I need to lose a considerable amount of weight which would make it easier but does any have any suggestions that could help in the time being. I was considering a 5th stick but not sure.

Slow and steady wins the race. Not being a tall man I use 4 LW sticks with my first having a single step aider. I have also added a double step to the top step on all my LW sticks. This gets me to 20' at the platform.
@mdsaddlehunter3796
@mdsaddlehunter3796 4 жыл бұрын
I agree with slow and steady. I am a tall man (6'7") and I use 4 Beast sticks with a 22' aider for the bottom step only. I am not too keen on aiders above that. I put mu platform maybe 6" above the top step. That puts my feet at 17" and my drawn arrow around 22-23 feet. That works for me.

When i get to my last step which i'm using wild edge steps with a 5 step aider i will climb up and put my tether on and hook up to my bridge climb back down so i can put platform up and tie a WE step on backside of tree even with platform so it gives me great range around tree but by having my tether hooked up i can swing around tree putting them on with no worries the linemen belt is in the way i feel a lot safer with the thether hooked up when that high up

Nice video Nate. I really like that you take your time going up and down. You definitely don't want an accident. I am using Amsteel daisy chain on my steps. That is my first mod on a new set of sticks (don't like straps and buckles if I can eliminate them). The sling pack is sooo suited to the Predator platform. Saturday should be a nice opener for you. Good Luck!!

i would recommend to attach your tether from the top of your stick, before stepping onto the platform. if the platform were to have a failure of some sort while you step onto it, i think you would be alot better shape if you were tethered instead of just a lineman. nice set up man. Ive been 1sticking and srt climbing this year with my h2 saddle.

I like the duffle bag idea for back band. I made a back band out of an old rifle sling, and scrap piece of an old safety harness. I have an aider on my bottom muddy pro stick that I’m going to attach the sling, to carry my sticks over my shoulder. Love the videos, keep up the great work. I’m looking forward to using my 3v sling pack this year as well.
