One of my biggest issues with the saddle is the tether being in the way if a deer comes from the "wrong" side. Pivoting makes more sense than trying to go over the tether. I also saw a Tethrd video where they went under the tether with their bow and turned away from the tree to make their shot. Good stuff.

Good video! I started saddle hunting this past year also, thanks for showing a solid technique on the weak side - I'm going to practice that pivot. I backup my bridge with my linesman belt also, but I tie in above my ropeman 1, which causes me to make my linesman longer than my bridge, but surprisingly it never got in the way.

Excellent overview of the saddle system. I would love one, I have some ideas 💡 on places where that would be beneficial. I just don't have the $350-$500 for a complete Tethrd system. Hopefully I can get one by this upcoming summer so I can practice with it.

Man I really like this and I wanna try it. The idea of just picking a tree...any tree. I saw that buck 50 yards out of range three days in a row, I gotta get over there. But I mostly am hunting private land and have 3 good spots that I have set up already in the spring. So I’m not used to carrying climbing sticks and setting up the way public land guys do. Idk how they can get in there and set up all that shit and not make any noise. Like those hunting public guys...they’re using the saddle now and they’re having great success. Idk maybe I’ll try it too.

Still learning the "ropes" so to speak. I come back to this video each time I have a problem to solve. However, one thing that I have trouble with is the tether height and slippage until I am fully ready to shoot. If I relieve the tension it just wants to slide down. I have an abundance of Poplar trees and they do have a relatively smooth bark so it may be something I just need to work with. Any suggestion on stabilizing the tether prior to full usage would help.:-) Working on the drop shot and leaning trees. Strong side is great both sitting and leaning. Weak side will be next up. Your knee pivot method has helped me get to the weak side...now I need to make the shot. Thanks again for your clear and concise instructions. You are a great teacher on line and I am sure your in class students enjoy you too. Fellow teacher (retired): Lauren

Try running the tag end of your tether and the carabiner two times through the loop on the end of your tether. This locks it into place.

@laurenchapple8244 3 жыл бұрын
@@robpoehnelt7220 Thanks Rob. I'll give that a try today! Sounds like it should do the trick for the tether.👍 I do run the tag end of my linesmen rope through the carabiner and pull the tag side to shorten the rope. Takes the place of the ropeman1 for one handed adjustments.:-)

Iv been watching all your saddle hunting videos and I just ordered the phantom saddle build your own kit with 8mm ropes 2 sys haulers tree storage and the recliner! So I’m looking for a lil more info on climbing sticks platform what I need for aiders and what the best way to go about that do I or not need anything else that maybe being a first timer I will need didn’t come with the kit I ordered.This is my first time ever to try saddle hunting but I see it all over KZbin and everyone says how much they like it better than a traditional stand! Also the ropeman do I need that or is that just an upgrade if so just an upgrade do you recommend the extra cost for one! There is just so much info and so much stuff and so much that’s homemade and store bought it’s a little bit overwhelming to a first timer and the price is more than iv ever spent on any stand but also not worried about spending more to get something that will make things easier safer or faster any help would be appreciated

You can use rope and have prussik knot instead of ropeman, then no metal to clang anywhere and scare deer,and if you just using sticks and not climbing with rope then you should have everything you need,except you may also want to buy gear holder and clips for it to hold your bag and bow,you can buy a daisey chain online for that if want , also nysaddle hunters is very informative channel as well if want to learn more
@terrycalvert7812
@terrycalvert7812 2 жыл бұрын
@@ericb6390 Thanks Eric right now that’s the setup I have is the rope and Prussik not. I’m going to give that a try for a while and see how that works out for me. I have used it a two times just in the yard and noticed that once you set into the saddle the prussik not is hard to move after that so I can see why everyone recommends the rope man. I ordered the tetherd HYS strap and am liking that so far and I’m going to make the kydex hangers for my bow and quiver that I saw on G2 outdoors and give what I have a go and see how things go this season and maybe upgrade some stuff for next year. I soaked 400$+ in this phantom kit and climbing sticks so I’d better just make what I got work for now so my wife don’t come for me in my sleep lol!! Thanks for the help.

dont know if im the only one that's thinking about this, but anything can happen. so how about flipping out of the saddle meaning backwards, is there anything with the saddle that will keep you from doing that. so you'll know what im talking about, say you were just arching your back stretching while sitting in the saddle is it possible 2 flip out. because with a safety harness you have it basically around your body but the saddle is not. im just wondering. but great explaining on the saddle.

My suggestion to you need to do more research on your harness below your hips the dangers of being in a harness for long periods of time. You have to have an Escape Route if you flip upside down it can be very hard you write yourself. Static rope are nice but dynamic will cushion your fall on a 4 or 5 ft drop. Static rope or made for lineman, rescue and arborist. Hunting from a tree falls in sport climb which means you'll have to rescue yourself. There's quite a few videos showing people giving trouble 6 ft off the ground that could not write themselves. Just don't want to see you hurt yourself I know you got a wife and kid. Take a class sport climbing and lineman you can see the difference
