Your voice is 1/3 as sexy as philosophy tubes so what's the point

Because unlike Philosophy Tube, I am not a continental shill who makes a living by neutering philosophers and dumbing them down for modern sensibilities.

@@philosophymonkeys1747 will you continue the series or are you somewhere else to find? These 3 short videos are interesting. But I'm wondering if it all goes direction heliocentrism? Thanks for your contribution!

Wow, I really hope that this channel will come back someday. I was really struggling with understanding the philosophical progression between these thinkers and now it’s so clear.

These are great! I hope you continue with the rest of the Pre-Socratics at some point; I would love to see such a thoughtful yet fun treatment of Heraclitus and Parmenides.
@samthelucky10947 жыл бұрын
Make videos on Heraclitus, Pythagoras, the Ileians, atomists and then Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. Maybe you could even talk about the philosophical tendencies in Homeric poems and later epics and tragedies..
@SolomonsCave6 жыл бұрын
Agreed, that would be great :) In the meantime, I'm working on some videos myself (along with a few other series). I hope you like my style. I'm especially looking forward to comparing Parmenides and Heraclitus and showing how their opposing philosophies form the backbone of all (yes, all) later philosophical thought in the West.

Can you do an in depth video on Xenophanes?
@jimmyfaulkner18553 жыл бұрын
A theory of everything is very popular in physics today and is heavily desired by physicists to give an all-encompassing explanation of the universe. Could we say though that the early Greek philosophers of Ancient Greece were some of the first humans to propose a ‘Theory of Everything’? For example, does Anaxagoras, Anaximander, Heraclitus, Parmenides, Empedocles (and much more) have a Theory of Everything? Would it be fair or justified to claim that those philosophers all had a ‘Theory of Everything?’ Another area in Greek philosophical thought that could help with answering this question is the idea of the ‘Arche’. This is usually defined as the ‘first principle’ in metaphysical thought (isn’t this what Anaxagoras, Anaximander, Heraclitus, Parmenides, Empedocles did?). However, it was Aristotle who first defined this term. So, is the idea of a search for the Arche, the principle, an Aristotelian construct?

Earth,wind and fire
@ghostaskrens70126 жыл бұрын
Did Anaximenes ever posit that through earth (wood, brush, etc), fire is created also? That would make the condensation and rarefacation of water a circular loop. It would reconcile Heraclitus and Parmenedes. Nothing would be in a state of decay, but only a different state of air. All things would be cycling through this loop, which would prove Paramenes right, nothing is changing because all things are essentially air. Although, it would appear to change. I don't think Anaximenes was an inept student. I think he was way more intelligent than Anaximander. He was essentially a rationalist, and saw Apeiron as an empty word contrary to logic. If Apeiron cannot be defined, it is a useless explanation. Although, I don't think Anaximenes was correct, I definitely see his thinking behind the madness.
@philosophymonkeys17476 жыл бұрын
Hey Amor Fati. I tried to clarify Anaximenes' view in visuals, but apparently I wasn't clear enough. In his view, Air condenses to cloud, which Condenses to Fire, which condenses to Water which Condenses to Earth. I really would not call him a rationalist. Since Apeiron is the unification of distinct opposites, he would appear to be a mystic.
