I'm the one who made this MT (though I got a lot of help with coding the observation/astral terror system), and also wrote around half of all the flavor text (which took multiple months all on its own even with multiple other writers helping out). I haven't had time to watch the video yet, but thank you for playing this tag!

Im just doing a campaign now and the mission tree and story is probably the most fun I've ever had in eu4. You did such a good job
@decayingbrain7494 Жыл бұрын
Is the astral terror caused by the dawrves "seeing" the people playing the campaign? Y'know looking up, and then realizing that whatever is up, is looking back at you? Since anbennar is based on dnd, and there's that one sort-of popular message board that described one dnd character rolling a nat 20 on perception while not being able to see anything more than they already did, and then transcending for a second and become cognecent of the fact that their figurines being played by a party of "giants", I just imagine that this mission tree was inspired by this story, but just space themed.

I am currious is the astral terror and the story line of artificial objects in orbit inspired by the dark forest theory/ the 3 body problem books? It has a similar something is out there and hostile feel to it and I am currious if its just me connecting the 2 or if there was any intent.

@@Rellana1 So I purged orcs until I could release them as ancestor worship. Didn't work the same with goblins. The orcs were not monstruous at release. The goblins I can't remember, but my main aim was to be able to stay one province, in order to get reform progress from expeditions as much as possible.

...Huh. I finished my run of this just a few days ago. I did my start the hard way - keeping the Shattered Crown lands for myself, then expanding west, and taking over the Mithril hold. Using expedition money, repair that hold, then make it my capital, and dev renaissance there, using the obscene amounts of money that got to repair the shattered crown holds afterwards. I colonised to and conquered the slaver hold and the railway hold, vassalised the ruby dwarves, and colonised the cavalry hold all before I even got to Dur Vazhatun, and I *still* was there in time to be able to block the quartz dwarfs inside their mountain. Needless to say, after that I had a very easy time of it, even when I needed to conquer land from the #1 GP Gawed to my west or the GP unified LakeFed to my east. Still, had a bit of a damp squib ending, as the final event chain spawned rebels partly beyond my borders (I only conquered Gawedi lands as far as the mission tree demanded, as fighting massive countries just takes sooooo long), and I defeated my rebels before Gawed did, so I presume Gawed got my final event when they killed the final 'rebels', as I got nothing. Ended up having to dig through the mission tree to trigger the event manually. Plus, the 'rebels' were rather underwhelming. I'd had to face down the literal million-man army of the Lakefed just a few years prior, those rebels were a joke. Still, the *theme* of it was very strong, even if the mechanics tripped over themselves a bit at the end. Personally - and I can understand why they didn't, but it would have been novel - the end of the mission tree would have been one of the few times I feel an 'unwinnable' disaster (like the centaurs get if they don't expand fast enough) would have been appropriate. Like, the meteor at the end, rather than one set of rebels, instead, you get an expanding condition from the impact point which burns down the dev of your provinces and turns them into rebels until the province is entirely decolonised as the people all go mad. There's no way to stop it as it slowly spreads throughout all your lands, and there's just a series of events as it gets closer and closer to your hold as you realise just how utterly screwed you are, and that there is no hope, no way out. You can fight the rebels, but you can't fight the cause, you don't even understand it, beyond finally accepting, as you hear the sounds of madness begin to echo through your hold, that there are some places we shouldn't look, that there are some warnings that should be heeded, and there are some prices for hubris even dwarves cannot afford to pay.

Actually, what the heck are those golden national decisions you have? Like 'Cartels: Grant New World Charter'. I don't remember seeing those before. Are they from a DLC I don't have? Do they have a signficant impact?
@pukebeard6406 Жыл бұрын
They are from the domination DLC I believe. They are granted by certain estate privileges, and give explorers and conquistadors, but certain other privileges grant some other stuff. It’s a baseline EU4 feature from Domination.

@decayingbrain7494 Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure they're talking about you, playing the campaign. The dwarves use a strong telescope to look up, see something observing them, get afraid of whatever is observing them, and then want to dig so far deep down, that they completely disappear from view (aka become unplayable). Idk, anything about lizardfolk lore, but the localization of the events just made me think of that one message board that desribes a dnd game where one character roled a nat 20, and then percieved "giants" around a table controling them.

poor dwarves. still thinking they'll be able to make sense of it all. conceited little creatures, endearing in their efforts, but misguided. Their ancestors did the right thing, they dug and forgot and focused on small lives made of petty greed and fleeting distraction. That would be a much better life for them all. Dig an hole dwarf, never look up. Because the slightest hint of the malevolence waiting for you in the depths of the night sky is enough to drive you mad, and the faintest recognition of your effort from Those Who Wait slaughtered your thousands. And the day approaches when your prying eyes will truly be noticed. You are not ready, you will never be. Dig, dwarf, dig and forget.
