All of these handhelds have incredible efficacy, but goodness me does the stock UI, game management, aspect ratios, bezels and screen positioning suck out of the box. I just got an Anbernic RG35XX SP a week ago, and with tinkering it's basically a perfect retro handheld. I did my research, knew what it could do, and started organising and tweaking as soon as it arrived. If I was getting into retro handhelds blind though - WOOF - a showcase video like this would put me off this sort of product entirely. What a mess.

I'm interested in the consoles i never played or owned growing up , Sega Saturn , 3DO, Phillips CDI.. the evolution of emu in general is bonkers, in the 2012ish era , emu would struggle with NES or Sega Gen/MD, Dingoo was the only option , nowadays, people are playing GameCube & PS2 handheld is wild 😮
@CrazyBurgerАй бұрын
I know.. its crazy that PS2 is retro. Doesn't seem that long ago. Progress with emulation is getting better all the time. Though these devices are not getting any cheaper.
@valley_robotАй бұрын
In 2012 I was running GBA, MD SNES etc on a psp, I was emulating neo geo in the 90s on pc, I had gameboy running on my psion pda. The dingoo was cool but it wasn't the only device that you could run emulation on, I loved my tap wave zodiac, that was a beast
@joezar33Ай бұрын
Yes , my bro used to do the same run emu on his psp , Sony a quality product, a cheap PMP 3 , back then those cheap made in China stuff are becoming quality products , nowadays @@valley_robot

@@valley_robotBro , That's like comparing a Sega Nomad to a Tiger Handheld when it comes to these Chinese emu

Very impressive device! Amazing how well the taller screen works when the frames are on show like arcade controls and TV border, adds to the experience! The frontend looks really nice as well. A really cool upgrade from the ARC and alot quicker, not just loading but also messing about with fliters & settings. I was happy with the idea of just having Megadrive, Snes & Mame lol, better Dreamcast, PS2 and playing Wii is next level stuff lol. Should keep you entertained for a long time! 🥳🥳🥳 Have fun and thanks for showing us! 🙂👍

The Ratio 1:1 is an epic fail 🎉 most history games are 4:3 or 5:4 or 16:9

This review shows one thing. It's not a pickup and play device. You need to do your homework if you want to use it to it's potential. A lot of issues an be adressed by tweaking the settings and unsing a different renderer. But you have to be willing to search the Internet for these settings if you don't know them.
@CrazyBurgerАй бұрын
@@Scheroemer This is intended for those hoping to pick up and play without any tinkering. I'm well aware that practically most of these devices need tweaking. But remember not everyone out there buying this are experts. There is 2 very different ways of looking at this.

@@Scheroemer Also.. I deliberately didn't do too much digging into this device, so it didn't cloud my judgement. Its a first look.

Great review as always! I think I’ll be interested a couple of iterations down when the performance on those higher end systems has been optimised, and they’re sorted that screen ratio out!
@CrazyBurgerАй бұрын
You can mess about with the screen ratio in settings and within the apps. Though you them end up with large borders.. its a trade off on which is worse..
@SteveNormanАй бұрын
@@CrazyBurger Right. Bit expensive for trade offs like that though.
@CrazyBurgerАй бұрын
@@SteveNorman Yep for sure. Going with a square screen was certainly an odd choice.

@@CrazyBurger that’s actually not bad then. I was thinking the cube would be a bit bigger. I’m stuck deciding between this and the rg405m. I know it’s a little less powerful, but the most important looking for in terms of performance would be the Mario sports games on GameCube. Do you have any personal experience with these specific titles on each device by chance? Also, is the cube set to make games automatically match its aspect ratio or would I have to tinker with widescreen hacks to prevent anything from being chopped off?
@overoulaАй бұрын
@@themecherry7247 i have rg405m , go for rgcube everything will run better.. and if possible just get the RG556!! everything will look better there and you can play all 16:9 games like psp will look better on rg556
