I ordered my RG35XX over a week ago after getting fed up with Miyo Mini never being in stock, it still hasn't shipped, and now it seems every retro channel is now talking about it nonstop. I'm exploding with hype for this thing to arrive!

The one thing I am seeing retro enthusiests seem to say across the board is that the Miyoo Mini has some flimsy hardware issues while the RG35XX feels sturdy like a GameBoy Pocket or GameBoy Color. When I buy something, I expect it to last as long as I take care of it. Miyoo's company is great for repairing and replacing units but I don't want to have to deal with that. I just want to buy something and have it work when I use it. The RG35XX seems to be designed to last even if it isn't designed for your pocket.

I was confused to why to use new card? I guess the device comes with a sd card which is with preloaded games. How do you make sure you don't loose the games? If you are putting garlic straight onto the new card received?

Copy everything from the existing card to a backup folder on your computer. And also replace the sd card with a quality card like a SanDisk.

In the miscellaneous folders for the sd card delete the largest file in there and then you can copy paste everything over without having to do things individually. One thing I'm going to try to do is increase that partition size by about three megabytes so that way you don't have to do that anymore.

LOL im really glad I heard the part about making sure I had the SD card first so I didnt flash my drive. Because I thought I would get ahead of the game and try to get everything ready on my laptop. I stopped and Im waiting till I get the sd cards ready and take another crack at it. My wife loves the old mario and I heard they may not come the rg35xx I ordered for her.

at 14:33, the best thing you could have done to copy them all over at once was delete uImage then copy all over and replace, uImage is the biggest file and the partition is big enough specifically for the misc files mate. Good video!

for instructions on updating the garlicOS. if you are dragging over the update ROMS files, aren't you replacing the roms you have on your device/SD card? what happens to your new ROMs that you downloaded and the save files? will those files remain untouched? does the replacing only happen for files that exist? also what if there are preloaded ROMs from anbernic that i don't want? do i always need to copy those onto my SD card? i guess i don't know whats in that Rom folder that you are copying over... does the folder contain actual Rom files or is it just the name of the folder?

Hey there this is a super detailed question and a bit tricky to understand. Make sure you backup your Roms. And you don’t have to keep Anbernic’s Roms but it’s a good idea to keep their bios files.

I wouldn’t use the cards that come with it no. Yes you can copy the Roms from the sd card that came with the device to you computer, and then put it onto the new SD cards.

@@adinwalls I recently did this with the latest version as of last night. The newer builds have a version number on the top left of the main menu screen. The latest was 1.0.2. Maybe BS fixed some bugs. Try moving your pics to the corresponding game-system/Imgs directories to see if they work after you upgrade to 1.0.2.

When you plug in the SD card, look for the partition with the relevant folder system and then add your file for game pad support.

Correct. I put the bios in the TF1 just to be safe. I also put the details on the article on my website.

Hi! Thanks for posting the tutorial. I get to the part about partitioning the SD card and get stuck. I cannot locate the section that shows Bios, Roms or CFW. I can't find it on the original SD or my replacement. What am I doing wrong?

If you have done everything correctly it should be there. Sometimes I find that it doesn’t give it a label, so you just need to go through all the drives in your file browser and find it that way.

Hey there. Yes you can use 1 SD card. At the point where I expand the partition on TF1, simply add your Roms and bios files there, and then you’re done. And leave out the TF2 part of the tutorial. Regarding chd Roms no word yet, but they are fairly easily obtainable.

Have you installed the bios files to the bios folder on the same TF card as the Roms?

Yes you can. The step where I expand the partition and make sure the rom folder etc is still there. You would simply stop at that point and start adding your Roms and bios files to that first sd card and not use a second.

Hey there are you UPDATING GarlicOS? Anyway, if you haven’t backed anything up, you’ll need to get new BIOS and Roms, download GarlicOS and do an update. If you don’t mind losing save states it might just be easier to do a fresh installation of GaricOS

Has anyone else noticed that the Stock OS has way better saturation than GarlicOS? I’ve tested it on 3 different machines, not sure if I just got a bad download of Garlic or need to update it or what, but it’s distracting how bad the screen looks compared to stock.

So, following these steps, whenever I flash the image onto the memory card, Windows immediately rebels and no longer recognizes the device without reformatting it again. Hi there. There’s a step just before using the partition tool where I say you need to backup to info on the card before proceeding. You may have to start from the beginning to get that partition back to the way it was. So use the partition too to delete all the petitions from the card and then format to card to exfat and the. Start the whole process again.

I suppose my question is within the steps taken in this video, the Roms that came on SD card with the device are my only Roms at this point. So would my first step be to offload these to my PC first? Yes. Just like I backed up the file structure, do the same with those Roms. And then load it all onto the new sd cards.

The main reason for me is being able to easily remove the card and change Roms without worrying about corrupting the firmware card.

Habe auch schon Stock OS auf eine neue SD Karte geflasht aber das Problem bleibt bestehen. Kann mir jemand helfen? I've been using the RG35XX daily for about 3 weeks and am very satisfied with Stock OS, had tested Garlic OS and there are no psx ISO (bin/cue) there. But since yesterday the RG35XX always starts with Chinese language and saved favorites and history are deleted. I already flashed Stock OS to a new SD card but the problem persists. Can someone help me?

You can't run the same firmware on the Plus. There is a 2.0 version that's compatible with the Plus, but it's in alpha and the general advice I've seen on Reddit is to not use it currently, unless you want to help with the development. There is another option for the Plus called Koriki, which looks very good. I just got my Plus today, so I'm going to give Koriki a go tomorrow.

@@curt6525 No, you can just use it as it comes with the stock OS. If you are using a single microSD card, just hook that up to your PC, then look in the ROMs folder; you will see a bunch of folders there for individual emulators, so just drag and drop your ROMs into the appropriate folder(s). If you get a second microSD card to use with it, make sure it's formatted to FAT32, then insert it into the second slot and turn the handheld on. When it boots up it will automatically make the required ROMs folders for you, so let it boot up, turn it off again, take the card out, hook it up to your PC, then copy over your ROMs. Hope that helps!

Hey there, PSP doesn’t work on the RG35XX. If you are referring to PS1, your Roms need to be in .chd format

That sounds like it is either your Roms (wrong format or in the wrong folder) or your RetroArch cores aren’t installed properly which shouldn’t be an issue with GarlicOS

I don’t know about Saturn on the new Koriki build. I haven’t tested it but this device isn’t really powerful enough for it.

I just subbed brotha!!! I am JUST STARTING to learn about hand held Retros. I’m a bit torn between the RG35XX, RG353V, and the Miyoo Mini plus. I mainly want it to relive all the Pokémon games and especially Fan made Pokémon Games such as Pokémon Clover, Radical Red, Insurgence, Infinite Fusion. I have a 2021 MacBook Pro that will be dealing with the Roms. Any suggestions you can make, you’ll know more than me I just discovered this about 8 hrs ago 😂 If you can help me out that be AMAZING!!!

Hey man, for those games pretty much any of the new Anbernic, Miyoo, Powkiddy etc consoles will work. The Miyoo Mini plus has such good nostalgia with the way it’s made. The RG353V is very nice because it is fairly powerful so you’ll be able to dabble in some PSP, N64 and a few others. The RG35XX is a cult favourite, the community has really taken to it, although in terms of overal charm I actually prefer the Miyoo.

If you want something that will last you a long time with a decent amount of power consider the Retroid Pocket 3+ which is still my personal favourite device.

@@adinwalls I was actually thinking about that RP3+ It would be very nice to have that Nostalgia feeling. As far as user friendly and ROM transfer, is it all the same? For the SD Micro is Sandisk Ultra 256 GB fine or is that an over kill?

Depending on what you are going to play. PS1 and up have large files. So a 256gb would be ideal for those systems.

Make sure you’ve put your Roms in the correct folder and they themselves are not in folders. Also check the file file types

Well, don’t use the stock SD card for GarlicOS. Rather buy a better card like SanDisk. You saves from the system that came with the device will not carry over to GarlicOS.

@@adinwalls I’m just gonna leave the handheld as it is. Since I’m just gonna play it casually and it’s no biggie. What I’m worry about is if I play the handheld like it came out the box will anything Happen to the sd card since the one given in the box isn’t the best sd card. Like will it crash, not work, etc in the future.

Just be aware that garlic is now a two file setup.

Noobie question maybe, but my RG35XX won't turn on. This is since I've put the SD card in my Android smart phone (I wanted to save my Pokémon Emerauld save file and it was the only thing I had that could read a micro SD card.) When I try to turn it on, the GarlicOS logo appears, then it fades to black and that's it, nothing else. I can't turn it on at all when there's no SD card in. Did Android mess up the card? I since bought an USD adaptor to read micro SD on my computer and deleted the files that Android put in. (There were two drives that I couldn't read without formating them which of course I didn't do.) Alternatively, could it be the hardware that's defective? Should I reinstall GarlicOS? (Edit: I forgot to mention that I received my Anbernic as gift with GarlicOS already installed.)

Unfortunately the Android phone has most likely done something to affect the partition. I’m hoping somebody with more knowledge will help us here but as far as I know you will need to re flash GarlicOS

@@adinwalls Alright, so I was on my way to reinstall GarlicOS on my card, when I saw the "known issues" section on Black Seraph's page, I quote (or rather I copy-paste): "Some units get stuck on the GarlicOS boot logo, this seems to be a hardware issue of sorts that can be remedied by removing the back of the device and disconnecting the battery connector for 10 seconds to let the PCB fully discharge (just pressing the reset button doesn't seem to be enough)" Sounded like my exact issue, so then I had to get the appropriate tools to unscrew and remove the back of my Anbernic, tore the battery that was stuck with solid double tape off the inside of the device, wondered why I did that, removed and put back on the battery connector, then put everything back together. Anyway that didn't solve anything LOL. Today I formatted my SD card (after saving all my roms on another drive) and reinstalled GarlicOS and now my Anbernic is back in business and I am a very happy person. Thanks for taking the time to reply to me and everyone in general!

Hey there I’m not quite sure what you’re asking but these days a dual boot to GarlicOs and StockOs is possible with Roms on a separate sd card.

This sounds like you have either bricked the device or it’s just broken. You will need to reach out to Anbernic for this.

There is a possibility with some devices to damage the system by flashing firmware incorrectly. I am not sure if this is possible with the RG35XX- you should also check out the RetroHandhelds discord and ask on the RG35XX thread.

Hello. I need help. Downloaded 3 versions of bios neo geo. I tried to drop it into the roms folder. But the games won't start. Garlic version 1.04. I'm probably downloading the wrong bios or throwing it off in the wrong place. Where can I download the required bios for free? Specify a more precise location for installing bios .? Or make more detailed instructions. Thank you Ps.. the console was flashed with instructions for firmware with 1 flash drive

I have a question regarding my sd cards, I didnt backed up my sd1 when I updated to garlic os and deleted most of my games. does the sd2 had a back up games included that doesnt show until I move it to sd1? thank you if you notice my question

Hi there, if you did not backup your games then they are lost. You will need to get them somehow from an internet search. Unless you put your games onto SD2 there is no backup on SD2. You will have to get some new roms and bios files and get GarlicOS set up.
