ANCEL BA101 Car Battery Tester + Starter & Alternator Tester

Having just moved from walking distance to AutoZone to the woods, 15 miles from any auto parts store, I just bought this for $35. THIS VIDEO IS GREAT. A battery died shortly after I got the tester, so it really helped. My old and new batterys did not list A-Hrs amp hours. Someone at NAPA said to multiply amp hours by 7.25 to get CCA. Sorta works sometime. But the machine gave me the info which I will write on top of the batteries. Thanks.

Thank you for your video review. All of these conductance testers only test for two parameters, Voltage & Internal Resistance, everything else like CCA, SOH, SOC etc. are calculations derived from those two parameters. On the charging test it showed loaded and unloaded test results and an actual loaded test was never performed from what I can see, when did you load the electrical system? It was just a calculated number because the ANCEL BA101 never prompted you to load the system and in the operation manual it never mentions to load the electrical system either, this is a fail for the loaded test. Other than an actual loaded test, overall it looks like a decent conductance tester.

At 8:36 the tool prompts you to turn on the headlights to remove the surface charge on the battery for the battery condition test so you do not get a false positive reading. I was talking about the alternator charging test that was performed at 10:45, no external heavy load was put on the system, there might be a pair of some wimpy resistors inside that try and simulate a load, but that is not the same as an actual heavy load like lights on, air conditioning on, brakes lights on, fans on, loaded test.

I am going to order the BA-102 for motorcycle batteries. I have 3 Honda Goldwings and can use it to keep an eye on their batteries. It also looks like I could use it on my small yard tractor batteries.

The BA 101 can test the motorcycle batteries as well.

Thanks for this great video. Please tell me why you have different results on Quick test and test in vehicle? I have the same problems, same battery and I do not undersdtand. I have new battery, on Quick test and Test out of vehicle show me health 100, Good battery, but when I tested in vehicle show me only health 63 and Replace. Why?

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe the measurement is supposed to be started by Enter only once RPM reached 2500. Ambigious instructions are probably a Chinese thing. So as Tina Turner used to sing: You'll never know 🤣

I ordered a Sonic tester after seeing a couple of videos yesterday. How does this tester compare? When I take my cars in for their oil changes the dealer is supposed to test the batteries. My wife got stranded about 6 months ago with a dead battery shortly after I took her car in and my car wouldn't start shortly after I got the oil changed last year. One of these videos was saying that these testers are better than a regular load tester which I suspect the dealer was using. He done a test on a batter that was showing good with a regular load tester but one of these showed it was bad. Another guy was saying that the ripple test was for the voltage regular. I ordered a tester so maybe I can get a heads up the next time before my battery goes bad instead of getting stuck with a bad one. I figure anything over 5 years on a battery is a gift. The original battery in her CRV only lasted a little over 3 years and the replacement Interstate battery lasted a little over 4 years. The Motorcraft battery in my Taurus lasted almost 6 years. I have had some cheap auto parts store batteries like from Autozone barely last a year. I have never got more than 3 years out of a Diehard battery. It doesn't pay to buy a cheap battery.

Very good presentation. I got an Ancel and it seems like a useful tool, after testing it on known good and poor batteries. However the manual is a poor English translation. The manual detracts from the overall impression of the product. Ancel: are you interested in having a technical writer revise it?

I bought that BA101 and I may be having a problem. I tested a brand new Delco battery and it said it wasn’t good, charge 100% but health 65%, brought it back to the store where they tested it in front of me on two seperate testers that said it was 100% good with a much higher CCA value than my test. Can those be defective?

Also… in your video, the first test you did said your battery was 100% healthy. The second test said your battery was 64% healthy… What do you make of it? Is there something I don’t understand here?

To confirm, does an in vehicle test require that the car accessory power to be on? I noticed for my unit that unless the power accessory is on, I get a "Check Connection" error when I perform the Quick Test and Battery Tests.

you probably want everything to be turned off as not to add draw and interfere with the test results. save for the starter and engine in the latter tests

I have a small deep cycle 35ah 12 volt battery and the others are full size deep cycle and starting batteries. Many deep cycle batteries don't have CCA or CA listed. Please let me know. NO DEEP CYCLE BATTERY TEST. This type of battery load tester is meant to test cranking amp of start/cycle battery 6-12vdc. For deep cycle battery, this tool can only get ball park idea of battery health by getting internal resistance and CCA then comparing it to new of good exact same deep cycle battery reference from your own data or from battery manufactor spec sheet. The true deep cycle battery capacity test is done by using WATT METER under the same load.

Thanks for this very detailed video! much appreciated. Btw most modern cars have AGM batteries rather than flooded cell because they are required to support auto stop-start systems. Also, I wonder whether the cranking test will work on some modern cars that use the alternator to start the engine through the serpentine belt and don't have a traditional starter motor.

Does the PC needs to be connected while it is hooked up to the battery? Given that it has no internal battery, it most likely does not remember anything once you disconnect the clamps. It would have made more sense if they had provided at least some supercap so that you could take the tester back in the house to hook up to the PC at your desktop.

+12vgs8606 The tester will remember the last test result even when you disconnect from the car battery. It most likely have flash ROM inside. When you connect to the PC, the USB 5v will power the unit without needing 12v power.
