.. what a great help this is. I wonder what you suggest for finding records of marriages and divorce of my grandmother, born in PA. I’ve been looking for twelve years. Two birth registrations of her children list her and father yet no marriage or divorce, until a second marriage in another state for her? I enjoy your topic presentations . CHG

Crista,I love your programs, but is there any way you can make the PowerPoint slide clearer? They are very difficult to read when I watch them. Regards,Frank

Frank, Thanks for the feedback. This particular video is about 5 years old. About 3 years ago, I switch recording platforms and the newer videos should be much clearer. I have been slowly replacing these old videos.

I am going backwards into part of my family tree, because I wanted to trace back the Dean family to as far as i can to see if it is true that we are related to Marquis De Lafayette, that you read about in your history book. My great grandmother was a Dean, and her lineage is the one that could be related to him, if in fact this rummor is true. I have traced it back to William Harrington Dean, and everyone was accounted for up to his family. I have a list of his children, and i believe i have a list of his sibblings. I found an obit when he died, and found out a lot, but it was listed in storybook form and it told of his father who was of English descent, born in 1774, and his mother, Mary Manhart Dean, was of Dutch descent born in 1775, both born in New York one year apart. Never did it list his fathers name. No matter how hard i try, i have not learned his fathers name. I have tried putting his wifes name, a question mark in his first name and Dean in his last name. I have tried doing a 1820 and 1830 Census to see what his fathers name is. William was born in Steuben County, New York, in 1818, married in dec 10, 1849 To Sarah Ann Goltry. They had 10 kids, all born in the early and mid 1800's and William died in 1898, dec 28, buried in the DeanCemetery in Scipio, Jennings County, Indiana. Queensville, where he died. Where else can i look?

After viewing multiple KZbin Ancestry videos, I am still having a lot of trouble with Ancestry's search capabilities. Whether I begin the search with just a name, or slowly add dates and locations I know to be true, I still am returned the same number of hits -- way too many to sift through. In some cases, I'm returned the same number of hits regardless of how many search fields I fill in. What am I doing wrong and why can't I get this to work?

This is a very old comment, and Ancestry has made many changes wince then. Have you had any more luck yet? Have you tried narrowing down the search options to location? I don't know if it had that option back 9yrs ago or not. I hope in the intervening years you have had some sort of luck...

Can you tell me how to find information on the Peshtigo fire? I was told I had several relatives that died in it but cannot find the names. I was told by 2 sources

happy grandma I live across the bay from Peshtigo, in Door County, WI. The fire killed many in this county as well. Here is a website that contains lists of victims and survivors: www.peshtigofire.info/

My great grandfather was Catholic and I believe he was married in the Catholic Church even though his wife was not Catholic. I cannot find their marriage record anywhere and I was wondering if the Catholic records are only kept in the catholic archdiocese and they are not public records. In their case it would either be Milwaukee or Chicago. Has anyone else had problems with Catholic records? And of course before a certain year say 1850, the local churches don’t keep those records. Any thoughts?

Very few U.S. Catholic Church records have been made available for Ancestry to put online. You can find the complete list of existing, digitized records available on Ancestry in the Card Catalog here: www.ancestry.com/search/collections/catalog/?title=catholic&location=2

I am wondering why anyone would not accept messages. I was just directed one of these people? I haven't had this happen before.
@CristaCowan4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mildred, There are a number of reasons why someone's account might be set to not accept messages. Maybe they passed away. Maybe they are dealing with personal issues and taking some time away from family history for a while.

People in the records? They were real and alive at the time the records were made.

I have watched almost every video about searching for my ancestry. I'm looking for 1 person. My great-great grandfather. Hours and hours of wasted time. Nothing I have watched has any practical application in my search.
