Great webinar and content Matt as usual! Quick question for you:which one is the best approach in your opinion when you are already ranking well on page 1 but the only sites outranking you are these big authority sites that do not have much links built to the target pages. -would you keep on building links to the target page regardless of page 1 averages even if that means having way more links than the page 1 average? - would you focus more on a tier 2 strategy assuming you have good tier 1s in place? - would you focus more on getting mostly high DA links regardless of relevancy? - would you work more holistically trying to build the overall DA of the site and by boosting supporting pages and your silo? I managed to beat up all the affiliate competition in most of my niches but the last update in May gave an insane boost to all these authority sites. They mainly rank by leveraging internal links from their crazy juiced up home page with target anchor...so unfair 😜 Thanks an good luck with your service

Hey Matt, I watched one of your other videos where you said "why don't we focus to update the content on the website, rather creating a new one" and that totally made sense for a website or textual content for blogs. However, I feel that it is not the same for the video, especially on YT. I understand that most of the things on this video are still relevant to date but some are not valid in 2022. Tom J 1) be a bit conservative 2) don’t copy it. Many times people are ranking in spite of what they’re doing. Not because of it.

Thanks for the great video. What to do, if you have unnatural-looking links for example a lot of links with the URL as an anchor text in a blog article? Disavow them? How do I know Google sees them as unnatural?

Url links are not necessarily unnatural. My suggestion is to get a link audit if you’re worried.

Great video, Matt! Thanks for this! One question, how would you deal with anchor text optimization/distribution if people republish an article of yours in-full. This happens all the time for us and while it's not ideal, we still do get a link out of it. However, if they copy our entire article then they are also grabbing our internal links which are (for the most part) exact match anchors and I don't want Google to think that we're over-optimizing and being unnatural.

Ivan Ambrocio Tough question without knowing the details, but I’d go with the high authority link. Page Rank moves the needle. Traffic is for trust.

Hi Matt, as always great video. I fixed about 20-25 direct anchor backlinks manually over the last 5 months and I was wondering if it can take time for Google to notice this? I believe an algorithm penalty has been pulling me down in the SERPs due to some anchor text problems. Now that I've fixed this and have continued to get quality guest posts, is this something I just have to wait out or if done right, should I already see ranking improvements? Thanks

Only if you’re sending enough pillow links to dilute the target anchor text AND all these keywords work in a sentence. For example “best juicer keto” doesn’t.

But would it seem too over optimised? Using mostly Naked or branded anchors would seem rather unnatural for product pages as opposed for the Home Page.

There’s no benefit from putting them on the same GSC. But instead a slight chance of bad things happening. Separate them.
