Great to see the village I spent my childhood in 1 to 15 years old. My dad leased the farm that went from the main road to the lighthouse back in the 50s /60s , No hidden treasure in those caves, we check them out long ago. You showed a clip of the boat builder shed, back in the day that was Watsons, it was a busy place back then. It was a totally different place then, the gullys inland from the main road where tidal mudflat and could spear/nett flounder up there.. There was only the pub and a dairy with petrol available out front. Sadly the pub burnt down and it all changed. They were happy days and a great community. Cheers bro PS: Pour knights are a magical place, well worth a charter trip on a good day so they can take the boat inside the cave and see right to the bottom without diving. And also take the boat through the hole in the island.

Great episode- the sounds of the islands came through so clearly. I am wondering whether you have done any research into what it would be like to sail down around the bottom of the South Island and back up the West coast. Thanks for sharing your adventures.

Yes I originally planned on sailing around both islands but rebuilding my engine took longer than expected and weather was terrible last summer so I didn’t get to. It’s not difficult to do, just takes time

I've been to the same place in January, did not eat the pizza but some burger in the place just before the pizza place. We also did the hike to the lighthouse in some 30+ degrees celcius and were as surprised as you were about the size! It is a really nice area. Check out Whale Bay, its just 5km north and is also beautiful. When you get further south, check out the Mangawhai Cliff Walk - amazing views from up there. Looking forward to hopefully see you visit the Coromandel, that's the region I love the most in NZ...

What a beautifull place...question, can u line the interior of the engine space with some kind of soundproof material to deaden the noise? (Most hated noise for a sailor 😅) or would it raise the heat?
@SailorJames
@SailorJames Жыл бұрын
You can but I have not be able to find any that was fireproof and suitable for what I need
@bwfvc7770
@bwfvc7770 Жыл бұрын
Most of the noise is coming through the engine mounts.
@loboestepario219
@loboestepario219 Жыл бұрын
@@bwfvc7770 if that is so, it's easy to fix...u put a thick piece of rubber ( could be a piece of old tire) and put one between each mount and the engine. That will muffle the noise a lot.
@bwfvc7770
@bwfvc7770 Жыл бұрын
@@loboestepario219 I used to soundproof diesel installations and you need to do it properly with proper mounts mounted at the optimal level and relationship to create a silent installation based on a Pythagorean triangle approach of Transmitted, Radiated and Convected sound rather than trying to take a noisy installation then flat plane silence it. And yes, good sound insulation is usually good heat insulation as well in the case of convected sound.

If I’m not mistaken it sounds like a 1 cyl yanmar engine, if it’s not the sound it makes it’s the awful vibration of it, and yes that is def worse on a polyester boat than a steel one as I used to have. It’s really difficult and almost impossible to soundproof them unfortunately. I’d recommend active noise cancelling headphones 😂😂

Hi James....zeke here. I was a patreon but recently someone hacked my card so had to cancel it. Sadly I forgot to redo my patreon support......I'll remedy that soon. Love the video. Reminded me a lot of my diving days around the Poor Knights, Hen and chick's and Barrier. Keep up the gr8 work.... I know the southern fjords are not possible this time around but do hope you one day get to see them 😉.....Certainly the 8th wonder of our amazing world. If you get a moment their is a totally amazing video by the BBC called "wild new zealand", narrated by Sam Neil. It gives a beautiful taste of the fiords.....stunning mind blowing beauty.....just a thought for next time around 😉. Fair winds chap

I love the story of the Maori who were offered money for New Zealand. Incredulous that anyone could be crazy enough to believe they could 'own' part of the planet, the Maori accepted. I can see their point a lot more readily than the alternative.
