Authenticity is out the window as soon as they got the brilliant idea to gun blue and laser engrave this axe head. At that point, ya might as well make the handle using modern methods as well. Just my opinion.

All historical finds in the uk have to be presented to the local museum for inspection and cataloguing, and you’d only be allowed to keep those items with low historical and monetary value, so doing this wouldn’t devalue the find. It wouldn’t increase the value either mind

You don't want to use power tools on the handle because they wouldn't have made it that way, but you laser engrave the head?? Riiight. I'd rather just say you found an old axe head that you're going to turn into a Viking axe instead of trying to make us think you've done a legitimate restoration.

You created your own engraving? If this was indeed a Viking battle ax, it either had original engraving, or it didn't. This looks like a small hatchet used to chop brush and small twigs.

Looks great. If it was an old rusty axe from not too long ago this is a beautiful way to make it pretty. But: DONT BUTCHER AND ENGRAVE AN ANCIENT ARTIFACT, THOUGH. i dont think this is a viking axe, and to speak of authenticity here is a joke. Also...why does this channel never seem to credit the craftsmen and artists who make tge shit happen...? makes me wonder...

Nice work, but it's not a restoration. Indeed, it seems to me that the historical part has been completely ruined since the patina of the centuries has been removed, and a Celtic motif has practically been laser-printed on it... It could have been easily done with any other piece of steel or ax from a hardware store... Nothing tells me that's a thousand-year-old head-hatchet. But is it really a Viking hatchet? Looks overly healthy and underworn... I've seen German MP40s pulled from the earth with deeper rust.

Hmmm.......did Vikings get into East Asia?? Also, he was using ANOTHER ancient Viking axe he happened to find, to chop the handle?.......it sure looked the same! Lastly, no wonder all those ancient Viking axes are laying around..........with all that wax and oil on the handle, once you started chopping a few people to bits, i'm sure they'd be slipping out of everyones hands!!
@Eyeball1975

Nope, sorry, you've ruined that. It looked good when you had cleaned and blued it, but the engraving completely ruined it. It needed a slimmer, simple handle, made from a nice piece of darker wood. Bog oak would have looked excellent imo. Sorry to criticise, I know you put some hours in, but should have gone simple.

Authentic Viking axe head? How did you establish that? If so, it was obviously the weapon of a simple warrior, and as such, an authentic restoration would have preserved its simplicity, not turned it into a showpiece. I mean, sure: You did amazing craftsmanship, but in the end I think you decreased its value as an historical artifact and turned it into a relatively cheap Disney-style fraud. If you wanted to make a fancy fake battle axe, it would have been better to start from scratch rather than bastardize an authentic historical artifact. So...grade A for craftsmanship, but grade F for respect for historical artifacts.

You ruined it as soon as you engraved it, if you really want to restore vintage tools you should avoid grinding, cutting, engraving, etc because then it's not a restoration anymore, it's a modification, it would be like putting a fire decal on a vintage car and calling it a restoration. Next time try only engraving the handle as long, as it's not original and you always put the metal wedge across of the wooden edge
