Ancient Egyptian Magical Practice - Drugs

I’m geeking out and I’m giving a treat to fans of the show. Today I saw some photographs of the recently discovered Papyrus Waziri. A 52-ft scroll containing many spells from the Book of Going Forth by Day (Book of the Dead). One of the pictures revealed a section of the scroll which confirms what many Egyptologists have believed but there exists little hard evidence. It shows a lotus flower sitting on the offering table. Cool enough. But it also shows lotus flowers wrapped around the jugs under the offering table. Many have believed that the Ancient Egyptians added lotus to their wine. This is another confirmation of that theory. Something I discussed in my video Drugs in Ancient Egypt. That video has so far been an exclusive for my Ko-fi subscribers. Thanks for taking one for the team, that is great info. I've done the deep dive with amanita, but never even thought about blue lotus. Being mildly sedated but still capable of mental clarity is a great benefit to a magician ;)

Maybe there’s more then one species that has those compounds. Australia, for instance, has a number of nicotine costuming plants but it’s not tobacco

thank you sir, this channel is just great, your insight, knowledge and research have been invaluable to me. ive heard myrhh and frankencense in combination have some psychoactive effect aswell but ive no idea how its administered

I have not seen a definitive study on the effects of frankincense and myrrh, but there has been some smaller studies delving into the biological mechanisms. From what I understand, it’s based on inhalation of the burning incense. Of course, amounts and safety are important. There exist ancient sources as well, the most well-known is the Jewish tabernacle. A structure is built and overlayed with cow skins, making it somewhat airtight. Copious amounts of incense are burned within, most likely containing frankincense and myrrh, and possibly cannabis. The high priest enters for as long as they can stand and then sometimes dragged out by the fellow priests. The high priest then relates the word of God. One can imagine it produces quite the psychedelic experience 😊
