Just to be clear: I only looked at the original designed of the guns used in this video. Not at the modifcations that were later made. For example, the M60E4 was designed in the 1990's but the original M60 was designed in 1952, so I just went with the year the original gun was designed in (except for the M1911A1 for some reason lol)

The most futuristic "gun" in Battlefield 1 is its depiction of the Villar-Perosa. It's based on a movie prop from the 1970s, and it's made from two Beretta M38A SMGs, an MG42 pistol grip and trigger group, and a Bren foregrip. Some other post-WW1 weapons from Battlefield 1 are the Autoloading 8 .25 Extended, the M24 Stielhandgranate (Stick Grenade/Anti-Tank Grenade), the Limpet Charge, and of course the other Early Enlister weapons Tbag didn't mention.

Important thing to note, the martini Henri was designed in 1870 but was inferior to all guns of WW1 they are black powder, white powder was invented in 1886 and using white powder in a martini is not safe. All of these 1870 guns are black powder including the model 30 drilling bullet not the shotgun shells. Most black powder guns can't take the pressures of white powder. For example the gasser with its open frame style can't take anything loaded with white powder and large calibers. 1870 is a strange time in the gun making age because the models that did not carry on like falling blocks, open frame revolvers and derringer type pistoles like the howda were models that failed when they would use white powder. Usually for mechanical reasons but basically the frames or lock mechanisms of the guns chambers could not take the pressures of smokeless or white powder. The howda, gasser, martini are all examples of guns that did not pass the test and had to be heavily modified, or like the NO3 revolver or winchester lever action used by the Russians were modified to take the pressures of smokeless powder. Some guns made it others did not. For breach guns the rolling block was the preferred and more solid breach over the others. For revolvers the Colts single action .45 army was the preferred closed frame style, like the negant revolver for example with a full frame. Lever actions had to be modified so the lever was not the only thing keeping the bolt closed. A good example of what guns in the 1870's looked like was the french Chasspot rifles, they were first needle fire/paper bullet guns, basically the first bolt action rifle is the Chasspot, single shot bolt action, it was later converted and called the Grass rifle, a black powder center fire, brass casing bullet gun. After this they were converted to white powder where they had to reinforce the bolt and lock for the bolt so it would not shoot out the back of the gun and hit the shooter in the cheek. Smokeless as much more pressure, back in the day guns were heavy lead mass travelling at fairly "slow" speeds compared to today's small bullets traveling at subsonic speeds.

Actually the M1919 was made in 1918. Pretty much all issues recognized in early development had been solved, so prototypes were going to be ship[ed to Europe in 1918 for front-line testing, a decently common practice if I remember correctly. However the shipment was available at the soonest, November 13th…we all know what happened on November 11th. In fact the “M1919” name is misleading, as the newly renamed Thompson didn’t even go into production until 1921, and also only first saw governmental combat in 1921 with the West Virginia State Police. I just wanted to point this (what I believe to be) inaccuracy out.

Interesting fact: The M60 is based on the German MG42. The Americans at the time of WW2 and Korean war were using the Browning 1919MG, but they decided they needed something modern, that can be caried by one man and the asistant gunner carry the ammo and fire the 7.62 NATO cartidge. Although they lowered the fire rate to make sure it ain't a bullet hose. 1200-1500rpm aren't exactly perfect for sustained fire.
@gunsforevery1 Жыл бұрын
I would say “based on” is a huge stretch. It borrowed some features, like the feed tray but the machine gun is absolutely different in many significant ways. I’ll start with the most significant difference. The mg42 is recoil operated. The m60 is long stroke piston gas operated (like the garand and AK) Butt stock and recoil assembly. . How the barrel is removed. The m60 uses a rotating bolt and 2 locking lugs. The mg42 uses 2 rollers that pop outwards. The pistol grip, on the m60 uses a rotating latch while the m42 uses a pin system. This isn’t like the mg3 Vs 42. The m60 may borrow a couple features but it’s certainly not based on the mg42
