The idea that Shor cucked Auriel actually sounds exactly like something that would've been written into Morrowind era lore

Well it doesn't make Shor/Lorkhan out to be any better. Granted we don't know if Shor did do stuff behind Auriel but of course Auriel found out. Also makes Mara out to be negative as well. Or maybe Mara just left Auriel for whatever reason, so it doesn't make or a situation where Auriel gets cucked. Either way, Lorkhan and his squad are devious, imagine doing that shit to your own brother, your king?

@@QuintRepler I dunno man, just saying, just about all the Elven races have more going for them than not. Only the thickest of plot armor has wiped a few of them out, and most of what fans love about the Elder Scrolls is thanks to most of the Elven races. Such as enchanting, the charting of Tamriel, the foundations for most all the major civilizations, both ancient and present, etc.

Even the Forsworn don't have very good development. It's hard to actually track down the most interesting details of their beliefs (such as Namira being a highly regarded spirit of decay but also rebirth) and even characters like Red Eagle don't even get unique models. In vanilla Skyrim Faolan can even spawn as a dragon priest, which is just silly.

I would argue that Julianos was also important in the early Nedic tribes. In modern times Julianos is invoced by academia, research, scholarship, etc. But knowledge has always been important regardless of civilization. In early Nedic times Julianos could've been the god of the Wise, shamans, the tribe elder, generational knowledge, experience and passing down knowledge through oral stories, etc.

16:10 You mention that Forsworn Dibella shrine, but don’t forget that the Dibella temple quest leads there. Remember, they kidnapped the next Sybil, who is supposed to be like a prophetess or high priestess of Dibella.
@SelphieTheNutter
@SelphieTheNutter 11 ай бұрын
Dibella always seems to be peoples favourite first target when attacking the 9 Divines (with Talos being the exception when it comes to the Thalmor) We have Umaril targeting the chapel of Dibella first on Oblivions Knights of The 9 DLC. The reach men kidnapping the Syble of Dibella on Skyrim, but not only that Dibella herself has been twisted into a different aspect on Skyrim. She was once ment to be the Godess of Love and Art. Guiding people to find their soul mates and inspiring them to create great works of Art (a type of Muse and Cupid). While Mara was ment to be the patron God of Marriage and family. Their relms interacted the same way Zenithar and Kynareths did. Zenithars Craftsman taking resources from Kynareths natural world (one cannot revear Zenithar without also acknowledging the power of Kynareth). The same used to be true of Dibella and Mara, Dibella charted Loves course then Mars sanctified their union and nurtured their family. But now on Skyrim, Dibella has been downgraded to the missing Daedric prince centered around Vanity, Lust and Manipulation. While Mara has taken over her relm and is now the goddess of Love and Marriage. In 200 years people managed to forget the attack on the chapel of Dibella and twist her into a type of Daedric prince, So much for the 9 Divines being good, their relms of late act worse that most of the Daedric Prince's. Stendar God of Mercy, is now trying to take over Julianos and Arkey domain the vigil of Stendar hunting Daeda worshipers and Undead like Vampires. Arkey is the God of death and Julianos the God of Justice, Stendars worshipers need to learn their place.

Oh thier was definitely some Hircine worship going on with some Nedic tribes back in the Dawn and Merethic eras. In the Duraki ruins we see a lot of imagery of a stag skull, which is most likely depicting Hircine and the Keptu created the blood forge with the help of Hircine, also a Reachmen tribe, the Dreadhorn clan descends from the Keptu. The Reachfolks cultures seems to have maintained many of the practices of different Nedic tribes like Daedra worship and Celestial worship.

MK has an Obscure Text about the Magna-Ge pantheon where he lists a spirit named "Daubella". This would be the only place we would find Dibella outside the Nordic and Imperial pantheons. Daubella is said to currently be the most important constellation. I wonder then if we could connect her to Star worshipping Nedes.

Can gods be killed? Trinimac and Jyggalag were cursed instead of killed. The elven gods tired to kill Lorkhan, but his heart wouldn't be destroyed. There is also the "dead" Tsun who seems fine in Aetherius. Meanwhile, the Deadlight is rumored to be the realm of a deadra lord destroyed by Dagon. Could this be true? Could there be a equivalent of the 'Heart of Lorkhan' of a dead daedra prince?
@Seethethings05
@Seethethings05 2 жыл бұрын
That is a question I have always asked myself, what if the dead deadra lords heart would be used in a future story or expansion to bring lorkan back from the brink of death or to puth the deadra lord's soul in the remains of lorkan. Not sure how they would work that in but it would be really cool to see.

@thalmoragent9344
@thalmoragent9344 2 жыл бұрын
I think the idea is, they can't truly be killed, but rather, "sundered" like Tsun and Lorkhan, or "cursed" like my homie Trinimac, as well as Jyggalag. I think the ripping out or damaging of their Heart/Divine Spark essentially takes a LOT of their power, to the point they function as Aedra, pretty much hella weak and in comatose. Pretty sure Lorkhan would be just as active as a Daedric Prince had he not had his Heart ripped out. Nirn is Lorkhan's Daedric Realm, so he would've (and still is) tied to it, but the reason he acts like an Aedra in terms of power/interference is because... well, Trinimac beat the ever loving shit out of him 😅 and took out his Divine Spark, greatly weakening him.
@thalmoragent9344
@thalmoragent9344 2 жыл бұрын
@@Seethethings05 Then Lorkhan would also have the Sphere of whatever dead Daedric Prince was sundered, so it wouldn't really be the old Lorkhan. Hell, if they use another God's heart or soul for Lorkhan, it may just simply not work. I mean, the Mantella was used as a replacement of Lorkhan's Heart, but even then, it had the souls of Shezzarines in it, aspects of Lorkhan himself, so I mean... that may be why it was able to power Numidium. But unless you get to do something like that again, well... I don't think fusing the souls/hearts of Daedra lords together is a good idea 😅

Dibella was ment to be the Godess of Love and Art, her Domain was the course of falling in love and that love inspiring great works of Art. But on Skyrim Mara, has userped her domain and is no longer working together with Dibella by sanctifying Loves commitment through Marriage. Leaving Dibella to become a type of Daedric Prince, centered around Vanity, Lust and manipulation that blesses women only. Mara apparently became Greedy and wanted 100% control over the relm of Love.

Moths are revered in some cultures for signifying resurrection or transformation due to the metamorphosis they experience during their life cycles. In a way it could be worshipping the kelper cycle itself, or it could signify that they could've been a different god or entity entirely in a different kelper, or just that they carried over from a different kalper (kelper? That's one of the things that pissed me off about Skyrim. Mara is the Patron God of Marriage Not the Godess of Love. In Oblivion when they released the Knights of The Nine DLC and the First attack on the Nine was directed at the Godess of Love (everyone spacificly stating Dibella Godess of Love) Dibella. It pissed me off that Dibella was implied to be a type of Daedric Prince in Skyrim all centered around Vanity, manipulation and Lust. When she is ment to be a type of Muse to inspire artists and bring people together through the corse of falling in love (when they decide to commit to eachother Mara take over and sanctifys their union and helps to develop their family).

I always imagined that the Daedra were somehow malevolent or hostile because they weren't involved with creation, so the things they represent manifest as alien, hostile, and evil forces. Like matter and antimatter in reality; antimatter is one of the most hazardous things that a living being could ever encounter, but it could have been the other way around just as easily. We simply evolved from what we call "normal" matter because that's what there happened to be more of after the beginning.

My favorite Dwemer theory: they are from the future of a past kalpa. They escaped their kalpa into the present one, figured out the Yokudan idea of "walkabout", perhaps. That's why it's not clear where they're from or when they arrived on Tamriel, because they're not really supposed to be in this Kalpa at all. I like this theory for a lot of reasons, but one of my favorite is the way it makes the absorbicide even more tragic: they escaped the biggest disaster any mortal could experience - the end of the Kalpa - and their collective trauma made them want to be eternal the way gods are, and it ended with them all absorbed into the skin of the Numidium, eternal and endless, but at a terrible cost. Great job, Kagrenac!

The Kalpa ending by being devoured by serpentine creatures mimics the Ouroboros in real world symbology. With the beginning and end of the cycle meeting as a snake devouring its own tail. Interestingly, serpentine creatures embody chaos in a most interesting manner, seeing as in real world myth, the archetype of the primordial chaos-serpent fighting the storm-god of order is an almost universal multicultural myth.

This and other videos you guys have done make me wonder if you could class people who are experts on fictional lore and mythology, historians. Forgetting that TES is fictional, this sounds like a discussion among historians and experts. My question would be, will we (or do we?) have historians that specialise in fictional lore and myth or would you just class these people as superfans? Well, Kings and Generals have just created the Wizards and Warriors channel and uploaded a video about Witcher's First Nilfgaardian War as if it was real history. So this is clearly something you can do. But is this a discussion among historians? It may seem that way, in fact discussions about historians aren't too different. However, the things historians talk about actually happened and if you have a theory, you can go back and try to find evidence for it. In TES "history" some dude at a Zenimax/Bethesda office just makes something up and 5 minutes later it's "lore". Every TES game has a lot of lore that contradicts other stuff, I would consider TES pretty garbage in the lore category tbh. Mostly disjuncted short stories made by different writers about the same vague topics. In fact, Fudgemuppet probably makes up better stuff in this discussion than ever occurred to the company's writers.

@@yaldabaoth2 Yeah I completely agree with that, i'm just wondering if you think you'd have the 'right' (Not the word i'm looking for but I can't think of a better one right now) to call yourself a 'historian of a fictional world' if such a thing would ever exist.
@yaldabaoth2
@yaldabaoth2 2 жыл бұрын
@@EmmaCosgrove123 I would say in theory, yes. But the history you are an expert of has to "end" first. TES is a being worked on constantly, its history changes. You cannot be a historian of that. But if we look at works like Lord of the Rings or Wheel of Time which have expansive lore but have definitely ended, why not? As long as you keep the "fictional world" part in the title. No matter how hard an author or game dev works, they cannot recreate the complexity of the real world, so their "history" is limited to the things they did think of.

@@yaldabaoth2 That's a great point, of course with TES, it's still ongoing and can in effect be retconned at any point, as they have done before to a certain extent. I was thinking more along the lines of Lovecraft's universe or tolkien's as you've stated 😊

You have some precedent among Tolkien fans. His lore was so incredibly rich, and to a certain degree spread out between his books, letters, and unpublished notes, that people spend years debating and piecing it together. First and foremost his son, actually.

On the topic of gods fading in and out, I think from what I remember of the lore is that Peryite might be the next kalpa's Akatosh, which is interesting and I wonder if he would keep his same sphere. Also, this is a wild idea but is it possible that the Tribunal could return in some form as gods, perhaps longer-lasting even, in a universal reset?

Peryite seems like he is the jealous intimidation of the Time God. He sat out creation, because he wanted to be the Dragon God of Natural Order.

Nah, the Reachmen see Peryite as their "Akatosh", but if another Kalpa came about, whether or not he'd take his spot as God King would be debatable. Not only that, but I doubt they'd swap or change Spheres, those can't be changed so easily. Even Trinimac kept most of his Sphere when turned into Malacath, albeit a slight corruption of it

@@badluck5647 We don't really know much about Peryite or his origins. He may well have been a participant in the creation of Mundus; we don't know. And the Altmer don't exactly have an omniscient, exhaustive knowledge of those events, nor are they impartial, unbiased relayers of that history. Theirs is only one version of the story. What we do know is that he is the "Taskmaster" of the lower orders of Oblivion (whatever that means), and that he maintains the balance of the natural order (presumably in Mundus too, not just Oblivion). That doesn't sound to me like he is a "jealous imitation" of Akatosh but instead that he has an altogether independent agenda, and that he is quite content busying himself with his own affairs.

@@HickoryDickory86 By the definition of deadra, Peryite was not part of creation. The proof that he has not used his power during creation of Nirn is that he can show his presence on Nirn unlike the adra. If he was content with being the Oblivion taskmaster, then he wouldn't be meddling with Lorkhan's creation.

I've assumed the Dwemer were originally a part of the Velothi and were a sect that broke away after some profound event. Someone either found something or saw something like a vision and it was enough for them to declare all the Aedra and Daedra as liars and lead their followers away. Instead of looking to gods for answers this sect decided to find the answers themselves hence their culture built around knowledge.

There was something from a Loremaster's archive that implies Dibella is perhaps what is left of the divine Y'ffre: "When I asked Mother about this apparent courtship requirement, she would say, “Jephre is the god of natural beauty. He told the tale of Creation that all may know their role and form. He blessed the Altmer and the Summerset Isles with beauty unsurpassed. He taught the birds to sing and inspired even the stars with his songs. Dibella is a poorly understood song-echo of Jephre, misinterpreted by foolish Nords who care only for the pleasures of the body and nothing of the soul. Seek Jephre's blessing and you'll find your soulmate"

There have been Atheist cults in the past, that fully recognized deities but were very careful about making sure their followers knew they had invented their gods. The best example is the Cult of Reason in Revolutionary France, but the classical-era Greeks did it a lot, since in their religious practices, the real universe was comprised of perfect forms that are projected imperfectly into reality, and 'gods' were just one of many ways of interpreting and sharing an understanding of the perfect forms. 'Atoms' were another, as was geometry. There's a reason they were the basis of western philosophy going forwards and not the Egyptians or Parthians, beyond Alexander's lucky conquest.

I think that's a good point Michael, when it comes to the Dwemer and their star charts, did the nedes get inspiration from them or would the Dwemer have subjugated them had they met. Personally I don't think the Dwemer would have subjugated them. In The Dwemer history books (at least the ones I've read can't speak for others) the Dwemer seem to have spent most on their time in isolation trying to discover a way to reconnect to their Divinity. The only real aggressive interaction tended to be with the Chimer/Dark Elves or other Dwemer Tribes over their Discovery's. If the Nedes had met them or at least one of them while they where outside their cities researching the meeting would have likely been alobe the lines of "what are you doing" "I am charting the corse of the Heavens, Though I do not expect someone as primitive as you to grasp such things, begon now barbarian and leave me on peace" As far as the "snakes always appear in myth as the villien" subject (I know this has nothing to do with elder scrolls but) humans have been trying to conquer control and enslave nature since the stone age and Snakes are always the one animal they cannot control, the best they've ever been able to achieve is to get the snake to tolerate their presence. Reptiles in general have always been the trouble factor when it comes to human ambition to conquer and enslave nature, they tend to live such solitary lives unless they are breeding that it makes controlling them almost if not impossible. Which is why they are peoples favourite choice for the villien when they want to frighten people with insects in second place. But they can remove the venom from a spider and make it harmless, the same can't be said for a snake, removing it's venom will meke it less threatening but it can still crush you by wrapping around you and stopping your blood circulation. People have been expecting everyone to be frightened of nature since the beginning of human history and slaughtering any who achieve coexistence with it (the norse being one of the worst criminals of this as they pretend to worship nature when in truth they worship their ego and delusional idea of being able to conquer it).
