Ancient homes abandoned in Suffern New York 1800`s

I explore this place for the first time and find many abandoned homes from way back in the day .

Looks like a builder used eminent domain to scoop up those houses judging how they are all abandoned in a row, with the new sidewalk. I wonder if high lumber prices postponed demolition and construction of new houses.

They have already built a very huge apartment complex further up the road and they are very unsightly . The tavern is under court battle with the developer it is pre revolutionary era.

Fantastic! I love the way you check out all the left behind things...most people ignore old cans etc but like you, I love to see the old packaging. Can't believe they just knock buildings like that down!

Im watching from my phone so maybe im seeing thing..going to watch again..maybe it was a just a shadow..lol what a shame to see those buildings gone pretty soon..too bad the those big trees will be gone too..omg most of those houses are old old.. "my name is Richard " you got the British accent..and i was expecting you to you say King Richard. Lol...take those mugs...they will be trashed pretty soon..you will be saving them.....noo..don't go down. There will be darkness..total darkness. Yeah that looks like something moved. It has been sitting empty since 2002 . I should take everything out of the dishwasher .I want to go back to that estate before it is lost forever .

What's interesting is that many of these homes looks like they were quite expensive to build and whomever owned them when they were first built clearly had a lot of money. I wonder who they were?

I heard it was owned by a man named Richard Sloat and was an inventor of a new process for making textiles And the Pierponts and Harriman family according to a 1933 regisration for a 1927 buick a man by the name of Mathers was one of last owners

@@AbandonedNorthJersey The second and third names you mention definitely ring bells for me. I'll have to go look them up because I think they are prominent people somehow, elite types I think. Thanks for answering, you're the best! You are definitely one of my favorite channels on YT. Sure is odd that this once probably very upscale fancy area went down hill so much over the years, usually elite and rich types tend to stay where they are for a looong time.

I remember it when the locals had strong accents and people lived in homes without electricity back when the Ford Motor Plant was in full gear ⚙

So the yellow painted home might be from the late 1800s early 1900s time period. That looks quite a bit later than the Tavern building.

If that and might in use . The tavern dates to 1715 and was last renovated around 1800

In the yellow house on rt.17 there was a bad fire and the resident was burned to death it was a horrible situation, the other two houses up the driveway are not good places to visit, many people tried to move in but left days after due to "unexplainable events"

@@AbandonedNorthJersey I grew up in that area and still live close (not suffern) there has been people who've explored and gotten locked inside certain rooms and witnessed things they can't explain at the last house the top of the driveway on the right, the house before it there has been others who've seen people in the house and around the property and when approached to ask about the property the people would vanish like they were never there. My friends and I have been chased from the property into the woods by something we could hear but couldn't see.. it's just not a good place to be you're very lucky nothing followed you home, a few of my friends were never the same after one night and they eventually ended their suffering, and so did many other residents of the town that live in that area, the town is cursed many young people lost their lives by their own hand.

I really hope he takes the corningware home with him, it will be thrown away in the trash when they demolish these places.

That area looks like a great place to explore. Bet there are some old privies and dump spots around there.

But its not filmed in Suffern that was Sloatsburg and the oldest tavern in Sloatsburg you saw if you watched the video . Did I say this was Mahwah ?
