Apparently we have examples of this script on stones in New England. The Algonquain Indian knew of it from visitors.That made their houses underground. Many Algonquain words are the same and same meaning as pre Celtic or Celtic. They built stone circles in New England also.

bill nicks There is Ogham in west virginia. Dna testing was done on skeletal remains at the site and proved the individual was european. Not sure why archealogist desperately try to discredit the overwhelming evidence that europeans arrived to North America first. The Windover bog bodies in Florida are also a clear indication of Celtic people living in North America well before our history books aknowledge. Dna testing at that site proved they were unrelated to known indigenous tribes in the area;) 🍀

@@luketracey3269 I'm cynical. Please either post definitive evidence - i.e. a link to a peer-reviewed site with pictures of North American Ogham and similar backup for your claim that European DNA has been found in ancient North American remains (there are simpler solutions to your Windover claims than crossing the Atlantic) or desist from making unsubstantiated claims - Thx - looking forward to seeing the evidence for myself.

Hi Caitríona! I agree with what you say about the stones being perhaps a marker for where somebody died, or something else important happened. The 4th to 6th centuries were a time of huge change in Ireland, and perhaps the 'old order' was aware their way of life was disappearing, and thought it important to mark it... I've always been interested in mythology and fantasy, but really only started learning about Irish and Celtic mythology and history when I was living in America for a few years. I live in Ireland now, and I also took the opportunity to study as a mature student in University College Cork, where I complete my master's degree in Early and Medieval Irish a couple of years ago. Glad you like the video!

Good video! You often see that these sorts of stones which have, as you rightly put it, the genitive case of the name, are not necessarily marking a thing that belongs to someone, but instead a land... My best guess is that each one is a claim against a plot of land, be it a larger familial claim on the bigger stones, or a smaller personal claim (maybe inheritance) on the smaller.

"Literacy remains even now the base and model of all programs of industrial mechanization; but, at the same time, it locks the minds and senses of its users in the mechanical and fragmentary matrix that is so necessary to the maintenance of mechanized society. That is why the transition from mechanical to electric technology is so very traumatic and severe for us all. The mechanical techniques, with their limited powers, we have long used as weapons. The electric techniques cannot be used aggressively except to end all life at once like the turning off of a light. To live with both of these technologies at the same time is a peculiar drama of the 20th century." [Understanding Media, Marshall McLuhan, 1964, Ch. Weapons]

Such arrangements of Ogham mark lands belonging in the 4 directions as far as a man could walk from sunrise to sunrise. Perhaps if you did this with the land owner's permission of course - other Ogham inscribed markers could be located. Ogham is the Mathematical and Musical Fire Flame Language of God. The other 4 consist of glyphs of varying complexity. Every leaf of every tree produces a distinct music. The trees of the name on the stone define those in abundance on the land. How about this ogham predates Latin ...Latin was developed from ogham that was brought to the early Greeks from the same Viking trade routes by their ancestors ... so that would mean Ireland was one of the first centres of cultural in the world, where they invented written word, farming, and metal work ... ships across to Wales and Scotland then on to Brittany and Scandinavia through to the med.
@billnicks23625 жыл бұрын
I would suggest getting all that nonsense out of your head, and reading a book....or 10
@terryernest62645 жыл бұрын
bill nicks ...I would have thought ( because I do think for myself, and don't always just rely on the present narrative) that ogham is related to runes ... Since runes are a more developed written language than ogham, it must predate the runes ... and since some of the oldest buildings are in Ireland it's obvious that is where the culture spring flowed from ... Your books won't tell you that ... !
@billnicks23625 жыл бұрын
@@terryernest6264 just because something is older or more advanced doesn't mean it's connected. And they date to around the same period when they start appearing on stone, in fact the runes technically pop up on stones before Ogham (and there is zero proff that it was used before then). "most of the oldest buildings are in Ireland"... By this I assume you are referring to Newgrange etc? Which aren't even close to the oldest in the world, and are not exclusive to Ireland since the building techniques likely came from elsewhere. Ogham is NOT in any way, shape or form connected. I have worked with the stones as well as every form of the Irish language to emerge after them and while on some level I commend you thinking for yourself, that should still be based on having some level of knowledge in the area in question. Your logic as to why they are connected is severely flawed
@terryernest62645 жыл бұрын
bill nicks ... suppression by the Catholic church for a thousand years means that the archaeology needs to be reassessed in Ireland, it was always been in the business of playing down the pagan finds ... there is a lot of political gain in europe for saying it all started there... Anyone interested in Druids and such. Should kick back against a old oak tree. Imagine your a above ground root on the tree. Then don't think! Meditate . You can do this a lot with no results. You only need to be successful once. When it happens, your connected spiritually to the Tathua de dannan. You will think your losing your mind, but your getting a lot of information in a very short time. You may find that your a reincarnated Druid. Then life gets interesting. They were the same people, in fact the Milesians of "Miletus" were also Phoenicians who created the alphabet, of course they had an alphabet, they just didnt have any vowels to the Greeks later created them. Every European language is related to Hebrew or Phoenician and were "phonetic" languages with different alphabets. Read "An Essay on the Antiquities of the Irish Language" then you will know why Gaelic or Kellic language and history is so secretive.

I'm cynical about Ogham being invented by Christians who wanted their own writing system for Irish, If the Roman alphabet was suitable, they would have used that - as it is used today. If they thought that they could do better, then there would be no straightforward transliteration from Roman to Ogham. It is almost as if someone came back to Ireland with news and an understanding of what an Alphabet was and why you would want one but could not remember the letters. So, they built a new 'clean-room' alphabet. Then having thought it was a great idea to start with, only ended up using it, for the most part to write names on monuments. Perhaps general Ogham literacy never got much further than learning to write your own and maybe your parents' names...
@julesgosnell97912 жыл бұрын
I've had a cup of tea and crumpet and I'm now ready to take my own shot at this: The Irish knew all about the Roman Alphabet and realised that they could benefit from it's use but they were either Politically (domestic use of a Roman technology would have been unpopular) or Superstitiously (perhaps they worried that writing their own name in a Roman script would in some way give the Roman's power over them) or both plus... unable to take advantage of the idea in its native form so they did produced their own version based upon in but looking very different.... - I suppose this is close to the "Christians wanting their own writing system for Irish" but I prefer my idea :-)

The language encoded in the ogham inscriptions is igbo language. Yes, you were able to transcribe the alphabets, but not to make any meaning out of them. The words transcribed from all ogham known so far, has never made any meaning in any known language of the world but the ancient Igbo language. The stone inscriptions are Igbo proverbs and idioms, some of them still used in Igbo land till date. The ogham has no connection whatsoever with the native Celtic language, it is much older than it, those who wrote them lived in ireland before the genetic ancestors of today's Irish people appeared in the land. According to indigenous tradition of Isles, they were black African dwarfs and magicians. Consult Prof. C. O. Acholonu.
